BoneDog Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Is anyone interested/watching Burton tonight? If they get a point they will be promoted to the football league for the first time EVER. I'm as excited about this match as I was before Leeds cos these are the first team I ever watched when I was about 6 and I used to go regular before I started going Leicester. This is a nervy night cos there is a good chance of Burton not even being champions if they lose this match and their final game against Torquay. After being so far ahead that would be a heartbreaker. Come on you Brewers
Floating Fox Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Burton vs Cheltenham... If you lot don't go to the match you can kiss goodbye to your so called friendship! Its a must! Anyway, Burton are up already really.
purpleronnie Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 I used to go aswell I cant believe they are on the brink of the football league, when I watched them it was like sunday league footy.

You would think so, but if they lose tonight against an Oxford side who can still make the play offs, and a decent Torquay side in their final game, then Cambridge have a real chance of nicking the title. I hope Burton do it, but even though a point from two games sounds as though it should be easy pickings for a side leading the table, it may be tighter than Burton would like.

Yes, they couldn't of had two harder final games really. If they lose both and Cambridge win both then I think Cambridge will have the better goal difference
MC Prussian Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 I'd love to see them in the Football League, if only for Kevin Poole to add one more season. Oh, and Lee Morris is there, too. Up the Brewers!
BoneDog Posted 17 April 2009 Author Posted 17 April 2009 How did Lee Morris not score just?!!! I'm shittin meself here
Cobbo Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Eeee Burton are doing a better job than us at cocking this up - Oxford have just gone one up.
BoneDog Posted 17 April 2009 Author Posted 17 April 2009 Frickin Lee Morris, 2 yard open goal miss! Canna believe it now
Cobbo Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Frickin Lee Morris, 2 yard open goal miss! Canna believe it now It was a helluva miss - more belief in his right foot and it was in. Shocking that he went with his left.
Cobbo Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Oxford harshly down to 10 now and a free kick in a dangerous position.
BoneDog Posted 17 April 2009 Author Posted 17 April 2009 It was a helluva miss - more belief in his right foot and it was in. Shocking that he went with his left. Yes, couldn't believe he tried with his left. Stick your right out and it cant go anywhere else but in the net
Cobbo Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 All over 1-0 to Oxford... Down to the wire, unless results go Burton's way tomorrow.
purpleronnie Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 I said to my Dad burton will blow it after clough left, they didnt they went on a good run but it seems now they are.
BoneDog Posted 17 April 2009 Author Posted 17 April 2009 I reckon they not gonna make it. Cambridge have two easier games and will probably score 5 or 6 goals. Can't see Burton gettin oat at Torquay now. Hope I'm wrong but I reckon Cambridge will win 3 or 4 nil tomorrow. I feel nearly as bad as after Stoke last season cos Burton will never get another chance like this if they don't do it this season. Not now Clough gone
Guest Bilo Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Not looking good at all for Burton. Somebody on this thread has said if they blow it this year, they'll blow their best opportunity. Absolutely right. Not to mention of the most shameful implosions ever witnessed. It's a crying shame as I would dearly love to see them take their place in the Football League, as I do any side doing so for the first time. If they blow the league, their confidence will shot and they will not win the play-offs. Sorry Burton, but I have a horrible feeling that Cambridge are going to nick it.
Ultra Posted 17 April 2009 Posted 17 April 2009 Four defeats in the last five games, and four players sent off during that time. They really are choking horribly. However Cambridge still have to make five goals up on them.

However Cambridge still have to make five goals up on them. If Burton lose at Torquay then it would be only four or even three or two. I think Cambridge will win both their games so I think if Burton lose by more than 1 at Torquay they won't win the title. I can't bear the thought. It's nightmare time for Burton fans. Come on Salisbury!
Ultra Posted 19 April 2009 Posted 19 April 2009 Cambridge won 2-1. Who do they play in the last game?
LeeCovFox Posted 19 April 2009 Posted 19 April 2009 Cambridge won 2-1.Who do they play in the last game? They face Altrincham at home. Burton go to Torquay. I hate to say it, but I think Cambridge might nick this. What a collapse that will have been from Burton.
Corky Posted 19 April 2009 Posted 19 April 2009 To be 19 points clear and lose the title would be catastrophic for Burton. They'll never have a better chance of going up.

I cannot imagine how horrible that would feel. It would be an effective relegation for them given that for so long it has been expected that they would be playing next season in the football league.
