Sparky Posted 3 June 2009 Posted 3 June 2009 Looking forward to it tonight , Croft makes his debut so hoping for a good performance
Sparky Posted 3 June 2009 Posted 3 June 2009 What a masterclass of Rugby tonight , absolutley beautiful . Harsh to mention names because every 1 of tonights 15 pushed their case well but the link between Stephen Jones and Brian O driscoll was phenominal .
dandannieldanok Posted 4 June 2009 Posted 4 June 2009 Sounded impressive. How did Phil Vickery perform?
Sparky Posted 4 June 2009 Posted 4 June 2009 Sounded impressive. How did Phil Vickery perform? Top draw in fairness , him and Gethin Jenkins for me have the edge on Sheridan and Adam Jones. Long way still to go though
Babylon Posted 4 June 2009 Author Posted 4 June 2009 I now officially have a British Lion in the family... wonder if I can steal one of his tops!!!!!
Finnegan Posted 4 June 2009 Posted 4 June 2009 I now officially have a British Lion in the family... wonder if I can steal one of his tops!!!!! Who?
Sparky Posted 4 June 2009 Posted 4 June 2009 Mr Harry Ellis he mentioned it before. A few superb breaks from him when he came on last night. And cause i said something nice about him see if you can sort me out a training shirt or something !! Chatted with him several times in Terrace , smashing bloke as were most the Tigers lads I actually was watching Tigers train before Euro final vs Wasps . Austin Healey beat 3 men ran for the corner and a late tackle from Geordan Murphy stopped him . Healey claimed the Try and Healey and Murphy asked me my 3rd ref opinion as i was right there , i said it was held up of which Healey was not happy in the slightest but Murphy did give me a wink

Was completely against his call-up but if he was top drawer then fair play. Slightly off topic.Scotland!! lol Can't do much worse than Frank Hadden surely, although any Scottish fans hoping for a change of style from the dour tactics and displays they've been getting used to will be sorely disappointed.

I was too but he scrummaged to perfection last night

Shane Williams will have to come close to his performance to get the number 11 spot.
Babylon Posted 6 June 2009 Author Posted 6 June 2009 Ellis starts today with Hook his half back partner
Finnegan Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Only listening on the radio today but it sounds like Hook's having a blinder.
Webbo Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Not brilliant quality.http://www.justin.tv/europeanrugbyfan
Finnegan Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Ah sweet, thanks Webbo. I was looking earlier but none of them were loading. Comparing Lee Byrne to JPR. Love it.
Sparky Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 Unconvincing from the lions today . Shane Williams in the form he is in at the moment will not make the test side but im sure he will be given ample oppotunity to play his way in. Leigh Halfpenny didnt have a good day at the office and id hope they play him wednesday as he looked way off the pace and needs his fitness building quickley . Ross Ford wasnt impressive at Hooker and im still not convinced by Sheridan. Lee Byrne Was hit and miss with some good breaks but looked uncharacteristicly dodgy under the high ball. Joe Worsley is 3rd in line for the 7 jersey. On the positive Ellis and Hook for me were the pick of todays performers. Hooks kicking from hand was impressive and i think he had 100% kicking success , Ellis was a right pain in the arse for all the Cheeters and made some good breaks and tackled well. Keith Earls had some impressive lines but with the competition he aint gonna any where near a test place
Finnegan Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 I think it was very much a performance of two halves. The backs especially were Jekyll and Hide, Ellis and Byrne were an example of this I think. Dangerous when the Lions were dangerous but both started to look a little bit frayed when it got hairy at the end. Shane Williams had a poor game, summed up by the interception try, but if he recovers in his next provincial game he'd still be first choice for me. Certainly likewise Byrne - that drop at the end was the first I've seen him let go in months, I don't think one error should ruin a man's chances if he responds to it well. I started watching about 35 minutes in (was radio before that) and I can't remember hearing or seeing Leigh Halfpenny

Thing about Williams is that all we really need to see is a couple of performances , he wasnt at his best in either so far. If Monye comes in wednesday has another good game then he moves ahead of Williams in the race for the 11 shirt. Nothing more demorilising for moral if a player gets picked on reputation over his form and Geech is a advocator of that approach . I dont think Shane will feature Wednesday but will start Saturday
Sparky Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Team vs Sharks wednesday 15. Byrne 14. Williams 13. O Driscoll 12. Roberts 11. Fitzgerald 10. O Gara 9. Phillips 1. Jenkins 2. Mears 3. A. Jones 4. Wyn-Jones 5. O Connell 6. Croft 7. Wallace 8. Heaslip Selection to me indicates a few things , 1 that Shane Williams will be given plenty of chance to find form , 2 is that once this game is over then O Connell , Wyn-Jones, Phillips , Roberts , O Driscoll and maybe Byrne will not be seen until the day of the 1st test. I like the look of the back row , i think Wallace has just got the edge on Martyn Williams at the minute and along With Croft and Heaslip it looks a formidable 6 7 and 8
Finnegan Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 If that team bonds and gels properly it has all the quality to compete with the Boks, let alone the Sharks. Here's to hoping. Great to see Croft in there
