Finnegan Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 It didn't look so bad because they were both sort of running the same way so he pushd him over more than utterly wiped him out but it's still a hit and is still a foul.
davieG Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 What a frustrating game rugby is! I don't t.hink i'll ever understand the interpretation of the rules which seem to be highly selective as to whether they are called or not. How can a ref call 'not releasing' when he's the wrong side of the tackle to see? As for the penalties from the scrum it looks like it's the S African whose deliberately causing the problems - talk about gamesmanship!
Finnegan Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 Shocking from our pack, Vickery's got to go off at the half surely. Great work from the backs when we do get the ball, though. Three "tries" to none isn't too bad - it's only fractional margins that stopped us getting the other two. Byrne's injury is a concern, big task for Kearney now to step up and play opposite Steyn. The not releasing issue is a strange one, true, but Bowe was definitely guilty there. Should have gotten rid of it instead of trying to out-dance Habana, naive.
davieG Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 I know I don't know what I'm talking about but this ref seems like a real homie!
Finnegan Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 Vickery off and we finally get a decent scrum, just gamesmanship davieG? Phillips should have hung on and took it through one more phase probably. Unlucky though. I know I don't know what I'm talking about but this ref seems like a real homie! Meh. The North / South interpretations always give us a headache, we can't blame the ref though we've just been shit.

Unlucky though. So not played like gentlemen then! i'm not keen on our scrum half he seems to robotic and predictable.

I'm not doubting who's better but it puts me off watching, I end up so intent on what the refs doing and don't watch what the teams are doing.
Finnegan Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 Don't think the ref's been too bad to be honest. That Jones break in the first half was a bit strange though. Phillips is alright. He isn't all razzle-dazzle like Dwayne Peel but he's a good runner. Problem is a scrum half is only as good as the service he gets from his pack and, well, we've been fucking awful .

Re the ref, you're probably right it's just that every time I hear an explanation of the committed foul it seems to contradict an earlier explanation but that's probably just Barnes!
Finnegan Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 Unbelievable end. Unbelievable display from BOD and Roberts, wonderful stuff when we were going forward. Looked a different side with Jones and Nugget in the pack. The team that finished today HAS to be the team that starts next match, surely. Brilliant end. So unlucky.
Fosse Boy Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 That was a great comeback. If we'd have had the rub of the green we'd have won that game. Such is sport though I guess, we had some luck to get in to those positions in the first place. Well done Croft on stealing the glory from the centre pairing, twice.
Finnegan Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 More money to the purple one. Ermm... well done on backing the odds-on, massive favourites.
WardyisPukka Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 Jamie Roberts had a stormer , so did BOD , that last 20 mins wiped the smurk off some of their faces , they looked shellshocked , if only moyne finished two of his chances if only

Shane Williams would have scored.
WardyisPukka Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 Like I said to Sparky, the one on 70 minutes... Shane Williams would have scored. True , hopefully Roberts and BOD will play like that next week , we kicked way too much in the first half instead of running with the ball , we have the players to play a running game , as O'Connell said we gave too many penalties away ,
Finnegan Posted 20 June 2009 Posted 20 June 2009 If the forwards had fronted up all game as they did after Jones and Nugget came on we'd possibly have won that. Sorry but Vickery vs. the Beast was a foregone conclusion. Definitely made me excited for the next test, though. Hopefully the Geech won't take backward steps.
Sparky Posted 21 June 2009 Posted 21 June 2009 Kearney in for Byrne for me whether Byrne is fit or not
Ultra Posted 21 June 2009 Posted 21 June 2009 Admirable though the comeback was, it may not have happened if South Africa hadn't made so many substitutions themselves. I doubt they'll do that next week.

I doubt they'll do that next week. I think we looked a hell of a lot fitter than they did, to be honest, which was the real teller for me. They didn't break on any chumps, they brought on decent internationals.
Sparky Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 Talk of Hook replacing S Jones if Hook can prove fitness.
Sparky Posted 23 June 2009 Posted 23 June 2009 Not many of tonight side have done thier chances for selection Saturday much good , O Callaghan did ok perhaps Hope Hook gets the nod over O Gara if Stephen Jones is left out
