If that team bonds and gels properly it has all the quality to compete with the Boks, let alone the Sharks. Here's to hoping.

Great to see Croft in there

Cant see what the theory is of putting a out of form Williams on his least favoured wing though .

I imagine it's giving him a chance to bounce back with a better team. Wingers are a little at the mercy of the creative element that's supplying them so I imagine he wants to see how Williams goes with a full strength team.

As you said previously, I can't see him being in the test team entirely on the merits of reputation if he doesn't deliver. Especially with Bowe and Fitzgerald both chomping at the bit. And even Monye had a decent game to be fair.

I meant more the fact about switching him to his least favoured wing , im all for giving him as much chance as possible as im sure we would be a better side with an in form Williams in it. Its getting towards last chance saloon time for the the 1st test though.

Ferris gone home injured and Ryan Jones called in as replacement for 2nd tour running

Gutting. Even if he didn't make the test squad the experience would have been brilliant for him.

That's a real, real shame.

That said, if Jones bucks his ideas up and comes into some good form then that could be a bit of a blessing for the Lions.

Not a particularly impressive win today over Western Province.

But at least the Test side is beginning to take shape.

Heres the side for tomorrows tour match , dont expect any of these 15 to be starting Saturday

British and Irish Lions: 15 Keith Earls (Munster/Ireland), 14 Shane Williams (Ospreys/Wales), 13 Riki Flutey (London Wasps/England), 12 Gordon D'Arcy (Leinster/Ireland), 11 Luke Fitzgerald (Leinster/Ireland), 10 James Hook (Ospreys/Wales), 9 Mike Blair (Edinburgh/Scotland), 8 Andy Powell (Cardiff Blues/Wales), 7 Joe Worsley (London Wasps/England), 6 Nathan Hines (Perpignan/Scotland), 5 Donncha O'Callaghan (Munster/Ireland), 4 Simon Shaw (London Wasps/England), 3 Euan Murray (Northampton/Scotland), 2 Ross Ford (Edinburgh/Scotland), 1 Andrew Sheridan (Sale Sharks/England).

Replacements: 16 Matthew Rees (Scarlets/Wales), 17 Adam Jones (Ospreys/Wales), 18 Tom Croft (Leicester Tigers/England), 19 David Wallace (Munster/Ireland), 20 Harry Ellis (Leicester Tigers/England), 21 Ronan O'Gara (Munster/Ireland), 22 Ugo Monye (Harlequins/England

On this my guess for Saturday would be

15. Lee Byrne

14. Tommy Bowe

13. Brian O Driscoll

12. Jamie Roberts

11. Ugo Monye

10. Stephen Jones

9. Mike Phillips

8. Jamie Heaslip

7. David Wallace

6. Tom Croft

5. Alun Wyn Jones

4. Paul O Connell

3. Phil Vickery

2. Lee Mears

Just reading Bryn Palmer's blog and he reckons Nugget has ousted Wallace from Seven. Like I said to you on Sat'dee, Dewi Morris actually reckoned he'd take Williams over Wallace too (although he then said he'd take Wallace over croft and play them both.)

Interesting stat on there that if Nugget does play the seven strong Wales contingent will be the biggest since the 70s. As you can imagine I quite like the sound of that. ;)

The timing of Shane Williams' stomach bug seems a little bit handy to save face though, doesn't it? That one raised an eyebrow. Could of course be complete coincidence and I generally hate conspiracy theories but it did make me grin.

Palmer does agree with you about Hook's prospects of leapfrogging O'Gara for the bench, mind, with his utility status giving him an advantage.

From what I saw of Stephen Jones on Saturday, I'd be very surprised if he made the starting XV for the Test..

Yeah because Ronan O'Gara has been a shining light of total rugby.

Give over. Almost everyone's got Jones pegged on by now and I'd imagine O'Gara's more looking over his shoulder at the fast improving Hook than ahead of him to Jones.

You can call bias all you want but I imagine if any bookies take bets on things like this then they've got Jones as favourite. When even Sparky's agreeing with me on a Welsh boy you know the odds are good.

This time last week I'd have said O'Gara was likely to start the first test purely off the back of the season he's had - but as things have gone the coaching team clearly seem to have Jones favoured and why break up an all-Welsh half back pair when they work consistently well together? No doubt if you had an Irish scrum half then O'Gara might be more fancied but they don't and he isn't.

Pretty much my view on things and also the Lions best display came when S Jones and O Driscoll were linking up superbly in midfield.

I didnt watch todays game but i see Monye scored again , surely he has nailed a place for saturday

It's Wallace and Monye.

The rest we already knew really tbh. Not sure Hook will see his doctor until early next week, if he has concussion he has to have an enforced lay off that's almost a month.

...which will end his tour.

Does anyone else think that that wasn't a dangerous tackle in the slightest and the scrum half just made an error in choosing to kick?

He was just barged off the pitch. Nothing wrong with it!

lol it was a hit, you need to get your arms around the person you're tackling. Clear foul haha, but worth it to hit du Preez and scare him a bit.

Shame our forwards are getting murdered because this is some wonderful stuff from the backs. O'Driscoll and Roberts look like they've played together for ten years.

Pah you'll get far worse on a rugby field.

It reminded me of Caniggia vs the Cameroon in Italia '90 :D
