Corky Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Sounds like Hull should have won. Bad result for Newcastle, should be it now for Boro. Can't see West Brom winning tomorrow, so they'll go.
Joe. Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Genuinely can't call it, it's so tough. I think Newcastle will need a point against Villa personally, and that should see them safe.
lou Posted 16 May 2009 Author Posted 16 May 2009 Hull just have to match Newcastles result, I still think Boro and West Brom are done for already. Have to see what happens tomorrow though. Be even more interestin if WB do win
Asha Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Very hard to say who I think will go down. Boro and WBA are gone, and I think Hull will do it. Newcastle could well beat a Villa side who've been off form for weeks, but will Man United put out a full strength side, risking injuries in a meaningless game, with the champions league final coming up?
Tilley Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 TOON TOON BLACK WHITE ARMY Manchester United could put out their youth team, they will still beat Hull. I don't buy this rest players crap. Whoever plays for Man Utd next Sunday will want to stake a claim for Champions League Final. Newcastle will stay up, just.

United won't put out a "Youth team" - It'll be players such as Nani, Macheda, Wellbeck, Giggs etc - The ones who haven't played much of a part this season. Most players that play in this game will have recieved a medal for winning the league, which means they've played a significant amount of games. Ferguson's team is picked for the champions league final already.
AyewJoking Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 I think both Hull and Newcastle will lose their final games meaning Newcastle go down.
flanimal Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Middlesbrough have to win by about 3 goals and Newcastle and Hull both have to lose. Don't think Boro can do it, so they are gone. West Brom cannot beat Liverpool. Hull cannot beat a reserve Man Utd team, and Villa are awful right now. Newcastle will definitely stay up. No question. Which is good for Leicester, because I think they would dominate The Championship.

Excuse me are you going blind Newcastle are the ones currently in the relegation zone you know with Villa away left to play, despite their form to say they will stay up no question is ludicrous. Villa are due a good performance and a win. And despite them being 'awful' they are unbeaten in their last 3 home games. Infact, Villa have only lost twice at home in their last 12 games, so i rekon Newcastle will get a draw at best, and Hull will get a draw so Toon.
flanimal Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 I know, but Villa have nothing to play for, they just want the season over. I just feel that Newcastle cannot go down. Just think they'll squirm out of it, like the big clubs always do. Seriously, you know in your heart they'll survive... even though we all want them down! <_<
Joe. Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 I don't think Newcastle wouldbe nailed on to go straight back up. You look at their squad and you'd expect players like Owen, Viduka, Martins, Duff, Taylor, Coloccini, Nolan, Barton and Bassong to leave in the summer, leaving them with a very average squad.

I think they'd storm it. Shearer as manager, he'd attract players. Unless Newcastle have bad finance issues, they'd win the league easy - i reckon anyway. But I think there is no possibility of them going down. It looks bad, but they'll wriggle free.

Whoever plays for Man Utd next Sunday will want to stake a claim for Champions League Final. Fergie's done it before though, playing a weakened side, not necessarily the kids. I also appreciate that Manure's fringe players would walk straight into most Premiership first team's, but just thought I'd get a bit of a debate going ahead of the finale.
Corky Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Newcastle need a point I feel, but we could well be hearing the Blaydon Races at the Way next campaign.
dandannieldanok Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Fergie's done it before though, playing a weakened side, not necessarily the kids. Yes, most famously to the anger of Neil Warnock when West Ham turned them over at OT a couple of seasons ago, Carlos Tevez ironically the scorer.
Koke Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Manure's second string side would still piss all over Hull. And plus, Villa are cack these days especially at home, so Newcastle can get a result over there.
Guest Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Yes, most famously to the anger of Neil Warnock when West Ham turned them over at OT a couple of seasons ago, Carlos Tevez ironically the scorer. Indeed I thought Colin was going to burst a blood vessel.

flanimal Posted 16 May 2009 Posted 16 May 2009 Newcastle are relegation proof. Simply won't happen no matter how much you want it.

Just think they'll squirm out of it, like the big clubs always do. Seriously, you know in your heart they'll survive... even though we all want them down! <_< Not all big clubs squirm out of it - ask Leeds fans... But the geordies might just sneak a result at Villa Park, just like they did at Filbert Street all those years ago when two dodgy backpasses helped to keep them out of the third division.
Ultra Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 I think they'd storm it. Shearer as manager, he'd attract players. Unless Newcastle have bad finance issues, they'd win the league easy - i reckon anyway. But I think there is no possibility of them going down. It looks bad, but they'll wriggle free. Shearer has zero experience of the lower leagues. Newcastle could have the same issues as Leeds have had in League 1, with teams treating games against them as their cup finals, and players not being able to cope with the pressure. But I fear this debate will be academic as they'll drag Hull (and possibly Sunderland) back into the mix with a result at Villa.
Thracian Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 So, given the fact that they have the Champions League final coming up, what are the chances of Manure taking a weakened side to Hull? For the conspiracy theorists, there is also the whole "sleeping giants" potential of Newcastle, so if it was possible to get rid of a possible future rival, hmmmmm, it could be quite interesting next Sunday!! It's an intrigung moral moral question that comes up time and again. Are United duty bound to play their best against Hull or do they have every right to do what they see as best for themselves, both in regards to the Champions League and Newcastle United? United have done their job as far as this season's Premiership is concerned and Newcastle are where they are because they've not done much at all. However Manchester approach it, I cannot see that Newcastle can have any cause for complaint and I'd throw in another thought. Shearer rejected the chance to join United. Will Fergie be able to resist the chance to send him down?
