StanSP Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Why does Federer always do this? Plays absolute dogs bollox for the first two sets, and then somehow just turns the tables. It's almost freakish. Annoyed that the crowd like him too
Number 6 Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 Del Boy has lost it completely now. EDIT: He finally holds a service game, needs to make inroads into Fed's serve now.
Number 6 Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 No point breaking if you're not going to hold afterwards
Number 6 Posted 5 June 2009 Posted 5 June 2009 He's through. Seems he is trying to throw it away every round. Can't see Soderling beating him though.
maddog Posted 6 June 2009 Author Posted 6 June 2009 Womens final starts in 42 minutes. Tough one to call, but i will say Safina will win. The mens tomorrow is even tougher to call, for Soderling to just suddenly relax at 4-1 down in the 5th after losing 2 sets in a row, and reel off 5 games on the trot was incredible. All the pressure is on Federer, Soderling may relax and smash loads of aces and massive forehand winners like he has been doing. My heart wants Soderling to win just for what it will do for the game, and give confidence to others that maybe they can win a Grand Slam, even if they are 20+ in the world. I mean it would be amazing, the French Open is the least competitive, it's normally easy peasy for Nadal and has been for the last 4 years so for someone like Soderling to win it would be amazing, even better on clay. If Soderling can do it on clay at the French then a host of other players could easily do it on grass and hard court. But i think Federer may break his duck and finally win it, either way, there will be tears from Federer i bet, win or lose
StanSP Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Think Kuznetsova might have a little more fight in her. She seems to want it more. As for tomorrow. I don't like either player. I don't want Federer to win because I simply don't like him. And I don't want Soderling to win because he beat Nadal <_< So as a neutral, if the match is good and weather is good, i'll be happy

Always like Federer best apart from Henman, and you all know about my for Robin Soderling Player i dislike the most is Andy Roddick, closely followed by another certain Andy
Lovejoy Posted 6 June 2009 Posted 6 June 2009 Can't decide on this one, sort of want both players to win . Soderling's a character, and would be excellent for the sport as previously mentioned if he can. For what it's worth, I think he will win, possibly even in straight sets. But Fed is just a legend, always been my favourite foreign player. If he doesn't do it this year, he never will.
maddog Posted 6 June 2009 Author Posted 6 June 2009 Safinas really struggling. Kuznetsova takes the 1st set. Safina looks sluggish.
maddog Posted 6 June 2009 Author Posted 6 June 2009 Well i've watched a lot of the French Open this year and the final earlier was easily the worst match of the lot. Not very competitive, slow hitting, and Safina just looked so slow and sluggish, and played absolutely awful considering how well she had played earlier in the tournament. Thats 3 grand slam finals lost for the world number one Safina, yes world number one having never won a grand slam, when will she finally win one Well done to Kuznetsova though, who played alright but didn't really have to do much to win, a double fault on Championship point just summed up Safina's performance. Hope tomorrows final is better
Number 6 Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 I hope for a great final today. You could argue your case for both players, Fed going for the 14 and GS, and Soderling did beat the reigning and undefeated champion. Both would be deserved winners, but I don't like Fed so will be cheering on Soderling today.
lildave3 Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 Come on Roger, finally he's getting the French open. Surely.

Hope tomorrows final is better I know this is going to sound very sexist but I've not been impressed at all by the quality in the women's draw, some very error-strewn matches. As you say Kuznetsova didn't have a great deal to do, just keep the ball in play. Women's tennis seems to be on a bit of a decline, typified by the fact Safina is number one yet produced such a poor performance.
maddog Posted 7 June 2009 Author Posted 7 June 2009 Soderlings got to get himself into this match or he could be 2 sets down and virtually out of it very quickly. Shame Soderling couldn't get another game or 2 in the first set, he just hasn't got into it yet and doesn't seem relaxed. And i've played matches where you don't start well, never get into it, never have time to turn it around and you can lose 6-1, 6-1 very quickly before you even realise whats happened. Soderling needs to start well in the 2nd.
maddog Posted 7 June 2009 Author Posted 7 June 2009 WTF. Crazy nutter on the court, could he turn the match around for Sod Was it Magnuss Norman
maddog Posted 7 June 2009 Author Posted 7 June 2009 Looks like Federer going to become the greatest tennis player of all time here. Unless Soderling can perform miracles.
Number 6 Posted 7 June 2009 Posted 7 June 2009 Well deserved champion. Could see him getting his number one back soon now. Will certainly be an interesting Wimbledon, already can't wait!
