maddog Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Murray plays his 2nd round match tomorrow morning 10am after a fantastic 1st round performance. He plays Italian Potito Starace, ranked 77 in the world, should be an easy win for Murray. Starace though is a bit of a clay court specialist having reached 2 finals on the dirt in 2007 and has won 8 challenger events in his career, all on clay. The big story in this though is can Federer do it, and i've gambled £10 of my hard earned cash on him to do it. He did it in Madrid last week against Nadal, but only after Nadal played one of the greatest 3 set matches ever seen against Djokovic lasting 4 hours+. I for one hope Federer can do it this year, as each year goes by it will only get harder and harder for him, Nadal is getting better and better and Roger isn't getting any younger. Murray is due to play Nadal in the semis, i hope he gets there and gives him some sort of test. Djokovic is hitting the ball so well though and he can't be written off. He's due to meet Fed in the other semi final assuming the 'Big Four' of tennis make it there. Come on Andy :chant: Come on Tim
Hitesh Posted 26 May 2009 Posted 26 May 2009 Money has to be on Nadal. Can't see Murray getting past him but who knows...
maddog Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 Just as i thought Starace wasn't going to be easy. The Italian is playing really, really well, it's 1 set all 1 game all. Really good match so far. Entertaining, hopefully the Champions League final will be the same
Uncle Albert Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 I thought Murray was going to cruise through this but Starace is pushing Murray!
StanSP Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Murray on the brink of defeat here. Starace only needs one more game to win the match. EDIT: Murray has pulled it back from 5-1 to 5-5 in final set.

StanSP Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Isn't it best of five sets? Thought they only played 3 sets.
Alexikokopops Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Thought they only played 3 sets. It's an Open, they're always five for men and three for women
StanSP Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 It's an Open, they're always five for men and three for women I'm clearly not an expert at Tennis as much as you are EDIT: That isn't meant to be a snide remark or anything
maddog Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 What a match. It looked as if Murray was going to lose the 3rd set and Starace may go on to win the match. But he somehow saved it from 5-1 down, and battled amazingly to win the 3rd set, saving set point. Then Murray was dominant in the 4th set winning it 6-4, great effort from Starace though. Murray can make the semi-finals in this at least Really good match though, real test for Murray. If Tim was in the same position as Murray today he would have lost, and thats the difference with Murray, he has such determination and fight, which Tim just didn't have. Tim was just too nice, Murray is a bit of a twat, but that wins tennis matches.
maddog Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 It's a major, they're always five for men and three for women
Milky Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 If Tim was in the same position as Murray today he would have lost, and thats the difference with Murray, he has such determination and fight, which Tim just didn't have.Tim was just too nice, Murray is a bit of a twat, but that wins tennis matches. Complete utter bullshit. If you had any knowledge of the game, you'd know that in the year Henman reached the semi in France, he came back from two sets down in the first round, and again from two sets down to reach the quarters.
dandannieldanok Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 I started watching from Murray being 4-1 down in the 3rd, looks like I chose the perfect time to switch on. Murray played some stunning tennis but against a better opponent he would have lost that set and obviously he would be in big trouble at 2 sets to 1 down.
Uncle Albert Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Complete utter bullshit. If you had any knowledge of the game, you'd know that in the year Henman reached the semi in France, he came back from two sets down in the first round, and again from two sets down to reach the quarters. Well said. I think Tim would of made the Final aswell if his opponent didnt play the match of his life aswell, Moya wasnt it? Murray did well today, he done well to ride the Italian's storm out and then hit him hard. Murray's backhand is looking strong and is putting his opponents in danger now. Still think there is alot of room for improvement for Andy on clay and I dont want to say it but I think he will struggle in the next round. Seriously hope I am wrong. Come on Murray!
Milky Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 As an aside, it must be tough playing with these in front of you. She's only 17, but seems to be a promising player. Winner of the junior French open.

Milky Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Bloody hell. What's her name? Simona Halep. After conducting a little, research, she's planning a breast reduction. What's the line? Like slapping god in the face etc...
Alexikokopops Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 I'm clearly not an expert at Tennis as much as you are EDIT: That isn't meant to be a snide remark or anything Don't worry, I don't really know that much. I managed to put Open instead of Grand Slam
maddog Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 Nice match going on now, between Nadal and Gaby, not Agbonlahor Another entertaining one.
Father Ted Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Murray to face Tipsarevic COME ON TIPSAREVIC!! Come on DJOKOVIC AND TROICKI TOO!
maddog Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 Complete utter bullshit. If you had any knowledge of the game, you'd know that in the year Henman reached the semi in France, he came back from two sets down in the first round, and again from two sets down to reach the quarters. Henman never made a grand slam final, Murray already has. Murray has already almost won the same number of singles titles as Henman in just 4 years, Henman was pro for 13 years. Henman did very well to make his 4 Wimbledon semi-finals but never had the guts to make the final, and Murray is pretty certain to make a Wimbledon final one day. How many matches did Henman lose to total unknown players, and how many did he lose from being ahead? It's blatantly obvious Murray has something that Henman didn't and is much more determined. Yes Henman did well at the French in 2004 but never even made it past the 3rd round in 11 other French opens and lost in the 1st or 2nd round on 7 occasions. Murrays no clay court specialist either and he's already made the 3rd round this year, and im pretty sure he will go further than Henman did in most of his, in only his 3rd French Open. Henmans one really good chance to make a Wimbledon final was in 2001 and he bottled it http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2001/jul/0...s.wimbledon2006 Just because thats my opinion it means i have no 'knowledge of the game' and you are some sort of tennis statto god

Not that I'm comparing hem or anything.
