Nottingham is one of a number of cities to offer bids to be part of the Football Association's drive to host the tournament. Officials in the city said a delegation from the FA was due to inspect the facilities and plans on 16 July. The city's bid will be based on its football heritage and the facilities it could offer to the FA. 'Complete package' City council leader Jon Collins admitted Nottingham did not have a World Cup standard stadium but insisted the issue was being dealt with. He said: "There are a number of options and they range from a new site... to improving the Forest ground where it is, and we will discuss that. "But it is not just about the stadium, it is the complete package and the FA will be looking to understand the totality of what we have to offer." He added: "We have a track record of hosting big sporting events like the World Twenty20 cricket matches and in terms of the transport, the facilities, restaurants and venues for fan parks, we are ahead of the game." Ultra Posted 3 July 2009 Posted 3 July 2009 Nottingham's way behind the game. Our campaign's been up and running for weeks. And the recent spate of violent crimes there will do nothing to help its cause. Having the media on your doorstep can be a double-edged sword.

StanSP Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 Shottingham won't get a chance. Too much crime and safety fears. Unless there is huge improvement over next few years and reduction in crime, can't see much WC football being held there.

I know it's not all about safety and crime rates, but I think it is a pretty huge factor in the FA's decision, and suppose ultimately FIFA's decision. There are plenty other factors which could outweigh this factor.

Even if it was, they gave them the world cup so doesnt seem to fooking matter.

I really don't want a move to holme pierpont to some oversized flat pack bowl (no offence ) just so Isreal and South Korea can fight out a meanigless group game. Although the latest unfounded rumour is the're now looking to renovate the City ground but for all sorts of reasons I don't think that'll happen.
Ultra Posted 4 July 2009 Posted 4 July 2009 Forest's owner has been mouthing off about renovation/relocation for years. Nothing's ever come of it though. Having two league clubs in the city, neither of whom would be keen on sharing any new stadium, won't help Nottingham's chances either.

Political shenanigans either way, and that's what'll happen with the world cup venues. They won't be chosen because of the best facilities or transport links or anything else. It'll all be done in some back room somewhere. I've seen The Wire, I know how these things work.
Radovan's Caravan Posted 5 July 2009 Posted 5 July 2009 You need have no worries about Nottingham taking World Cup matches away from the Walkers Stadium. A friend of mine has told me that the 2018 World Cup will be awarded to Russia. He is just back from a business trip to Moscow and says the deal was done some time ago. I am tempted to think that there is some substance to his claim as he also told me that the Polish/Ukranian bid for Euro 2012 had been accepted (after a businees trip to Kiev) some months before the official announcement. He works in a specialised area of finance for the oil and gas industry and his sources and contacts are at the highest level.
