AjcW Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 So the Premier League is this year graced by Burnley, Birmingham and Wolves. I thought I would do a little profile on each clubs current squads with up to date signings. And we can have a discussion on how the new clubs will fair in the premier league this year. Burnley: Signings so far: Tyrone Mears: Undisclosed: Derby County: RB Former Derby man, on loan at marseilles last season, a strange signing in my opinion but may well turn out to provide Burnley with an alternative at the back when needed. Steven Fletcher: £ 3,000,000: Hibernian: Striker. The striker who has waited for a move for over 4 seasons now, mooted for one of the old firm but has finally moved to England. Not premier league quality in my opinion, would of been good in the championship David Edgar: Free Transfer: Newcastle United: Versatile Defender/Defensive Midfielder. Young star, cannot believe newcastle did not strive to keep hold of him, will do well under the right tuition. So they have so far strengthened attack and defensive options, with manager coyle rumored to be interested in James Mccarthy and Andrew Driver, both Scottish based midfielders. Coyle has interestingly kept the bulk of last seasons promotion squad, with the likes of Eagles and Paterson desperate to make an impact in the Premier League. My Prediction: 20th. Birmingham City: Signings so far: Cristian Benitez: Undisclosed: Santos Laguna: Striker. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Benítez Giovanny Espinoza: Undisclosed: Sporting Club De Barcelona: Defender. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giovanny_Espinoza Roger Johnson: £5,000,000: Cardiff: Defender. Former Cardiff defender, very, very pricey, surprisingly so. However is very solid and may well surprise a few this season. Scott Dann: Undisclosed: Covscum: Defender. Young, promising defender, will be a good option from the bench. Joe Hart: Loan: Man City: Goalkeeper. Their star signing in my opinion, every team fighting to survive needs a class keeper and they've got one in Hart. Birmingham have been very active so far in the transfer window, strengthening both attack and defence, but like Burnley will need to look into midfield options ASAP... Links with a permenant move for Lee Bowyer and a long shot at Patrick Vieira. My Prediction: 14th. Wolverhampton Wanderers: Signings so far: Ronald Zubar: Undisclosed: Marseille: Defender http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Zubar Greg Halford: Undisclosed: Sunderland: Everywhere The Journeyman and hes still only a young lad, amazing how many clubs he has had, never settled anywere, maybe this season is his chance. Depends which one of his 12 positions he plays in a suppose . Nenad Milijas: Undisclosed: Red Star Belgrade: Midfielder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nenad_Milijas Marcus Hahnemann: Free Transfer: Reading: Goalkeeper. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Hahnemann Andrew Surman: Undisclosed: Southampton: Left Back/ Centre Midfield Young central midfielder who can play left back, had a poor season with southampton last time out but then again who didnt?? Could well be the surprise star for wolves this season. Kevin Doyle: Undisclosed: Reading: Striker A risky move at a high price, if he has the season he had first time round in the premier league with reading then this will of been a great move by the manager. So Wolves have covered more areas of their squad than any other team in this transfer window, and in my opinion have made the most impressive signings, however there are many new faces and the squad is beyond massive at wolves, therefore I feel they will take too long to gel. Prediction: 18th. Well thats the profiles, get voting and discussing below.
Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 I put Birmingham, I don't think they're great, but I think Hull will be a shambles this season.
welck12 Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 Burnley - The Hull of 2010. Owen Coyle best stock up on the fake tan then
dandannieldanok Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 Brum and Wolves to stay up by the skin of their teeth. Burnley to go down with Hull and Stoke ( ).
Lovejoy Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 Burnley going down this coming year along with City Hull and Pompey. Brum to survive comfortably, Wolves to scrape clear .
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 Ronald Zubar is a lovely little signing for Wolves imo, has experience of Champions League football with a very decent side, better than Birmingham's route of buying overpriced, inexperienced Champo defenders.
Ultra Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 There are about ten teams in the Premier League who could be dragged into the relegation battle. But Burnley's squad as it stands doesn't look strong enough, while Hull are in a dire run of form with only ONE win since December. They both look certs for the drop.
Samilktray Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 Wolves will do well I reckon. Dont like Birmingham so hope they go down.
