Radovan's Caravan Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 I never argued with you that AEG might want to sell Beckham (although adidas et al. might make this divorce more difficult, not less, as I don't think they're quite ready to make Jozy Altidore the face of their American soccer marketing campaign). So, once again, I'm just saying that the fans' animosity towards Beckham is something they've created entirely of their own volition and that if AEG/MLS want rid of Beckham, it's not a smart thing for them to gather people around their product and call it a piece of shit. I'm not typing this again. AEG is taking a financial hit, of course, but they've got a team, a stadium and money--if they want to sign a big name in the future, they'd be wise not to make their franchise and their organization seem like a bunch of backstabbers. All your argument contains are presumptions about how underhanded AEG will behave, all this other stuff I already know, some crazy shit about the specter of a British assault haunting the United States and stuff about beatniks (about which I can only roll my eyes). All because of a rather jocular critique of your "conspiracy theory?" Please. And I don't need lessons on style from someone who writes in an excruciatingly pompous tone. Lighten up a bit. Let's not make this a last-post-wins contest. --- Here's a hypothetical situation for us to ponder: let's say all parties agree to the same Rent-a-Beckham plan as this year, where Becks goes to Milan on loan in January and stays for the rest of the season. This, of course, postpones any possible permanent sale of Beckham from LA to another club. Capello calls Beckham into the England squad, and he stays with them all the way through South Africa 2010, England do well and it's a nice little boost for Beckham's image. With his England career over after this, what would David Beckham do? He's not going to need to play in Europe anymore if the paycheck is bigger elsewhere. The worldwide economy could see the beginnings of recovery before then, and if he, MLS and another club can't agree on a transfer, why not come back and finish out his career in the U.S., where he already knows how much money he'll be making? Is it possible that this troublesome "Beckham Experiment" in LA could have a happy ending? Or do you think this has absolutely no chance at happening? AEG don't SEEM like backstabbers because the public are DUMB. The naive, gullible, trusting great unwashed don't ask the most obvious questions like how comes LD can make serious allegations in print against AEG's (supposedly) most prized asset and not get disciplined for it? I think you're continuing with the conspiracy taunt because (a) you're secretly embarrassed that you were taken in by the 'spontaneous' Galaxy protests and (b) you are trying to make it appear that I instigated it. Face it, big corporations behave badly or hadn't you noticed that the world is falling to bits right now? As for the 'Beckham Experiment' having a happy ending - I think you fell asleep soon after this movie started (like the rest of the US).
Ultra Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Good on the fans for having a crack. Even more credit to them for unearthing old Morrissey lyrics and using them on a banner...
Dave-Pundit Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 I geniunally think Beckham went there to become a sort of big thing for the American game, I think he thought he could change the American game but it needs more than Beckham and I beleive he thought his England career was over, so he went for one last challenge, but he's realised he's better than the galaxy and the task for him to change football in America is too big for one man and he wants to come back. I completly respect the guy as a great footballer and also a great person IMO. I don't think he's cocky, He's probably one of the most geniune people considering the money he gets, when he could be like Ronaldo or some other cockface.

He went there for the filthy lucre - all $250 million of it - and all the other things that come with being close to Hollywood. And her indoors pushed him into it so that she could pout her Botoxed mush into Hello! for another five years. There were plenty of top European clubs that would have vyed for his signature after his Real Madrid contract expired. And DB and his team were well aware that if Capello was prepared to eat his words and select him for the Galacticos then he would be prepared to recall him to the national team if he became England coach (makes you wonder which FA members might have been approached for that appointment ) Team Beckham are smart enough to know that HIS current and future earning power (if not LA Galaxy's) is partly dependent on his continued selection and solid perfomances for England - hence the seeming financial sacrifice to go on loan with little leaguers AC Milan. Credit to him for spotting that, coming back and taking the flak but it was hardly a philanthropic gesture. Reports of his fortune are greatly underestimated...
Radovan's Caravan Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Youre jealous arent you No, I just know what motivates people. Just look at all those players who could have joined clubs playing CL football this season... who just happened to end up with Manchester's second club for 'footballing' reasons.
Darkzzz_ Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 I hear he has been at it again. Good on Beckham, I would react in the same way.
ousefox Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 England midfielder David Beckham was involved in another confrontation with a fan during Los Angeles Galaxy's match on Saturday.Beckham, 34, exchanged words with a man in an England shirt during the Galaxy's 1-1 draw with the Kansas City Wizards. Beckham, who was fined following a clash with a fan last week, claimed the spectator insulted his wife Victoria. "He shouldn't actually be wearing that shirt because what he was saying about my wife was a disgrace," he said.

I agree with the spectator, his wife is a "horse **** guzzling whore"
Samilktray Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 People go on about the money, but if you were offered crazy wages to play in a league full of Sunday league players when you were 1 of the finest midfielders of this decade, youd all go. None of you are fooling anyone.
Darkzzz_ Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 I would take it in a heartbeat. He is living the dream.
purpleronnie Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Fair play to the yank fan who despite beckham wanting to shake his hand just gave him more grief, then the 'england fan?' who decided 'yeah I'll change my opinion completely because he wants to shake my hand,' wimpy turncoat. As for Beckhams impact on US Soccer, he's made a massve impact despite his injuries, attendances have shot up when he has played, I've never seen soccer as high profile in the newspapers and on TV before, so whatever he's not done he has done one thing that he promised and thats to raise the profile around the world of the MLS.
Fox92 Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 He's in it for the money and the fans have found that out. Don't like the man and do not rate him as a footballer - he cannot tackle, he doesn't head the ball, he hardly uses his left foot and he doesn't score enough goals.
Radovan's Caravan Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Looks like AEG are giving Beckham the bum's rush through the stooge exit. Being in the entertainment game AEG are well versed in getting actors to spread the word. Anyone else notice the grown men at the crush barriers behaving like hysterical pre-pubescent girls when the late Whacko announced his gigs at the O2 arena? And the 'impromptu' tribute in Trafalgar Square after his death - did you spot the impressario in black conducting the cats' chorus? Do they pay by the day or by the hour? All the world's a stage and the audience merely players...

The biggest actor here is Beckham; he's doing everything he can to speed up the divorce.
BoneDog Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 Beckham's a joke. Imagine if every footballer reacted when someone gave em some grief when they taking a throw-in! If this guy is at the World Cup I will cry. Yes, he is good at dead-ball situations, and yes he crosses a good ball once in a while but no frickin thanks. This guy is as far from representing the average English youth as you can get. Model some more pants Dave, it's what you're best at nowadays
Basingstoke Fox Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 At the England v Andorra game he hardly put a foot wrong. EVERY pass/cross was inch perfect. But then it was against Andorra.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 American fans are hardly reknown FOOTBALL fans. They are cringeworthy, they don't know really understand the sport and shoould stick to the baseball or the eggball. David Beckham is bigger then the MLS.

Does your definition extend to paid 'day players' or marketing staff on a field trip or simply hired thugs? Very interesting that our latest (solitary) agent provocateur was an unlikely Englishman slagging off Becks' slapper - so 1998. Interesting also, that in the pictures we received here in Voj, Beckham's face is very clear but the features of his abuser are blurred - despite being almost equidistant from the camera. It would appear that someone is trying to protect his identity. Anyone else notice this?

'Soccer' is still the most played sport in the USA and its only because the people in charge fooked up the league that people believe yanks dont get it they do, I know they do as I've spent almost a decade going to matches in the US. The league is now well established and more money than ever is being generated, purpose built soccer stadiums are being built (and have already been built) practically every state wants to join the MLS. Attendances have been stady for over a decade and just ask the 30,000 seattle fans who go every week if they get it? And heres some pictures of American fans 'not getting it' I guess they must have walked into the stadium by mistake eh Hugo?...Muppet!
Radovan's Caravan Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 An interesting piece today in Murdoch's Brit rag: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...hout-Becks.html What does this tell us? It tells us that the knives out for DB. Flattering and fawning though the piece is to Beckham it's telling him to do exactly the same thing (in ever so polite language) that AEG's hired stooges have been telling him: get the fcuk out of the US. The patchwork quilt of financial alliances that brought Beckham to the MLS are using the considerable means at their disposal to break Beckhams resolve to soldier on. Any lingering hopes for the Beckham experiment went down the tubes with the credit crunch (though my hunch is that we would have come to the same pass regardless of sub prime - there is simply no room at present for another mass spectator/viewing code in The States. Well that's what MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL really think anyway). What we are seeing now is a propaganda war that's using two interesting psychological techniques. There's the nasty routine (your a greedy treacherous cnut and your wife's a fcuking whore) and the nice routine (come back home David you're too good for the poxy MLS). The key thing to remember in all of this is that none of this is spontaneous or genuine comment. It is all orchestrated and there is an ulterior motive - to allow AEG et al to cut their losses. My advice to Becks is to take AEG'S hint now and move on - there's nothing to be gained in hanging around to find out just how sinister the routine might get
