Solihullfox Posted 8 May 2005 Posted 8 May 2005 Haven't been able to go to Plymouth as my cat, Beamish, collapsed yesterday with what the vet thinks is an embollism (blood clot). Not a nice experience but got him to the hospital unit where he is on a drip and has about four drugs being given. Hopefully he will be o.k. My brother just rang from Plymouth (we were all staying down there) and says it's a lovely morning down there and a load of Lestoh were around last night. Further progress report on the cat when I ring the vet at noon.

Solihullfox Posted 8 May 2005 Author Posted 8 May 2005 Thanks peeps. Medical update - Beamish has done well overnight and has responded well to the blood thinning drug he's on. Vet is going to sedate him this afternoon to X-ray just to ensure that he hasn't been in an RTA but it is almost 100% the blood clot problem. Going to see him at 5 o'clock with grapes and chocs (for me) Matt - have a dog too, she's called Murphy and is a border collie who has diabetes. She has an injection from either me or the other half twice a day. One of the side effects is that she has cataracts which means she is now virtually blind but she still plays football - by sound.

Solihullfox Posted 9 May 2005 Author Posted 9 May 2005 Has Beamish made it through another night. 105262 He's made it through the night and the vet is hopeful that the drugs to clear his lungs are working. Still in an oxygen tent !!! Will be talking to the vet again at 2.00pm. Come on Beam.

I miss Fat Dog 105347 Sounds like she didn't suffer - about the only saving grace, hope she's doing well in doggy heaven. Beamish update. 3.00PM Beam is doing o.k. and has stabilised a bit more. Still has fluid on his lungs but all the other drugs appear to be working. If they can't get the fluid off I have given permission for them to operate and drain with a needle . The process is dangerous because of the traumatic nature and his condition but I think it's the best way to give him a chance of a reasonable life when (positive thinking) he recovers and comes home. The vet has said that he will never be an old cat after this so I want him to do as well as he can. Will speak to them again tomorrow. Thanks for all your kind thoughts.

Guest Posted 9 May 2005 Posted 9 May 2005 Beamish and Murphy? You haven't got a rabbit called Guinness as well, have you?
Solihullfox Posted 9 May 2005 Author Posted 9 May 2005 Beamish and Murphy? You haven't got a rabbit called Guinness as well, have you? 105632 Guinness was Beamish's brother. He disappeared one day about 7 years ago and I never saw him again. Looked everywhere for him but guess he either went away to die as some cats do or someone nabbed him. He was mega cute and was convinced he thought he was a dog. Yep, they are all black and white !!!
Solihullfox Posted 10 May 2005 Author Posted 10 May 2005 Beamish still in the hospital and will be for at least another 48 hours. He is getting better but they still need to monitor him and get the fluid of his lungs before they consider sending him home. Had a look at the bill earlier - so far it's

Solihullfox Posted 11 May 2005 Author Posted 11 May 2005 Hi Steven. Just got back from a visit to the vets. Beam is ok but still has fluid on his lungs so still being treated and can't come home until that's sorted. He has a drip in him but is looking cute and also eating well - all in all he appears to be on the mend. Will need drugs for the rest of his life but at least he can menace the neighbourhood for a bit longer. Thanks for your concern.
