davieG Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 This thread is anything about LCFC next season except those missing strikers. I'm looking forward to a much more creative team next season especially from the midfield with Oakley, King, Wellens, Gradel, Dyer and N'Guessan where I think we have some decent creative potential. These backed by Tunchev & Hobbs I hoping to see considerably slick innovative passing from the back to the front.

From what the mansfield commentator was saying the other night we appear to be getting it down and playing again which is nice to hear. Looking forward to going to tomorrows game. Hopefully next season unlike in 07/08 we can keep 1-0 leads and turn draws into wins.

Must say I feel the same We've had a decent defence for a number of years however I think our midfield could be the best we've had for a long time. Inparticular we seem to have got some decent wingers for once which is a very big positive (as we didn't last time we were in the championship). I'm most excited about seeing N'Guessan, who I know will probably be inconsistent but will have moments of explosive pace and power which we have missed for a while. Also after all the raving about Wellens I can't wait to see him in action.
lou Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 True enough and Fryatt/Howard really gelled together last season......... whos to say, now theyve worked it out that they wont again? So its a league higher, we do have enough decent players behind them to ensure it continues. Things are gonna be fine

Yeah but that counts for nothing unless theres a decent striker to get on the end of these slick, passing moves! Sorry

iancognito Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 If King, Oakley and now Wellens give the same service as was being given last season - a one legged man on a pogo stick could finish the moves let alone the strikers we've already got. My main concern is still the right side though. For all Maxi's promise his final ball is shocking and Adams as an option is still a weak link. The only other option especially if The Crab plays for the first time in about two years would be to put Oakley out there. Or Dickov
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 The only major worry I have is about the keeper. Is Weale good enough? And who is 1st choice back up Logan? I really hope not. I am sure we will get another striker in and that will be it complete for me really, as the defence is solid with Tunch and Hobbs, while the midfield looks good with Wellens being added. Bring on the season.
foxoffderby Posted 24 July 2009 Posted 24 July 2009 I was gonna start a thread about Max Gradel, but I will put it on here instead. Is he really that good? I, like a lot of people have watched him for a couple of seasons now and I don't think he is that good. He seems to have cult status, especially on this forum. Maybe its because of his happy go lucky style or his haircut or he plays with a smile on his face, which is great to see...but is really that good? Nothing I've seen makes me think he is good enough at Championship level having again watched him twice so far in two warm up games he has been poor. If you compare him to other Championship wingers such as Commons, G Barnes and Campbell-Ryce and Routledge for example he is not even in the same ball park. He seems to struggle with his passing, crossing he is not a great goal scorer and when he takes a corner how many times does it get past the first defender? For me hes a squad player not a first choice winger. I think he will struggle next season.

You can't forget he's considerably younger than those you mentioned (apart from Barnes if I'm correct), so give him time. What he gives is some flair and the ability to beat a man, give him a shot in the Championship and I can see him developing into a more rounded winger.
