Ozwin Posted 11 September 2009 Posted 11 September 2009 Got a Samsung tv, not full HD (it's 720) and fancy getting a Blu Ray player since my current dvd player is on the blink. I've got about £130 to spend on one, preferably a Samsung because I'm a bit of a sucker for them. I was wondering if there was anything I needed to know about them really? Do I need a certain type because my TV isn't full HD, does it make normal DVDs look better, will it fill that gadgetry void in my life? Cheers

Amazon do a Samsung at £139. That's the cheapest one they do. I would save up an extra 60 quid and get the Panasonic at £193. It's the BD35 model. You can't go wrong with Panasonic. Even if your TV isn't full HD, don't go cheaper on the blu-ray player as you'll only go out and buy a new player once you upgrade your tv. You can get the BD 35 for £155 from Total Digital though. Shop around for it. Btw, "Panasonic's DMP-BD35 Wins Best Blu Ray Player at the What Hi Fi Sound and Vision Awards 2008". Say no more. One year on, you can get a good price for it.
ozleicester Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 buy Beta, nothing will ever be better than Beta... dont fall for the VHS propaganda.
Sir Fynwy Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 Save up a few more pennies and buy the new PS3!
Jay Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 Save up a few more pennies and buy the new PS3! Good advice as you can pick up a new slimline PS3 with Blu Ray for £229.00 you are probably best saving up you will get more for your money that way
Lillehamring Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 Save up a few more pennies and buy the new PS3! i'm always sceptical of anything that does more than one task - what is the standard of the quality of the blu-ray element? i'm guessing it's just a very basic blu-ray device?
Smudge Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 I've been told by several vendors that the PS3 is probably one of the best around for sound and picture, of course you have to use HDMI cables for 1080p HD. If you don't do that, there's no point in getting Blu Ray. edit ..Just re-read the original post. If you don't have HD tv, you are definitely wasting your money.

The blu-ray stuff we've watched on the PS3 has been very good quality.
Darkzzz_ Posted 12 September 2009 Posted 12 September 2009 The blu-ray alone is worth buying the PS3 for. It is quality, I have only ever used an alternative when I was at a friends, I think the PS3 is on par with his, if not better.
Bluefoxtim Posted 14 September 2009 Posted 14 September 2009 A PS3 will probably die on you anyway. Why?
