Steven Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Slovenia international Jani Sturm's expected summer move to City has fallen through because he has failed a medical check on a long-standing groin problem. Link
Ricey Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 I had a strange feeling he would never join us, I suppose we will never really know what we have missed out on.
FoxInTheSnow Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 were did u hear that ??????? 105938 until he is playing in europe for barcelona next year.....ha...if it happens, it could only happen to Leicester...
Ric Flair Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Gutted!!! Was really looking forward to seeing him aswell, but we'll never know know. Anyway as Levein said Slovenia is relatively untapped and there might be others out there.

Frenzied Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 It's nice to see Levein has acted quickly. He is obviously trying very hard to get the squad together early, so they get a chance to gel. Although I am disappointed by the news.
BartonFox Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Again further indications that CL and his team know what they are doing. I'm sure Bassett would have pushed the deal through a la Lee Morris and leftthe manager with a player he rarely sees and costing the Club a fortune.
cono Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 i am disappointed that he aint commin now cause if what i heard he sounded like a good player, now it will be intresting to see who CL will bring in for his place. i hope it is not stefan moore!!!!!!
Scow Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 I'm not really that fussed. None of us have seen him play, so we're not in a position to judge whether he was actually any good or not. After Sunday's performance, I doubt Stefan Moore will be here next season...
city are bigger than the forest Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 I'm vey dissapointed I really wanted to sign him, would of definatly added talent to the side. But Leicester will have to move on and sign someone better.

FC Copenhagen played ND Gorica earlier this season in a champions league qualifier. FC won the game in Slovenia 1-2 but then got trounced by Gorica 0-5 at home. One of the worst and most humiliating defeats in Danish club football history. Sturm scored twice in that game. I know I saw the game, but I can't recollect the goals... guess it doesn't matter now anyway <_<
Anish Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Am I the only person who thinks Levein has made himself look like a right prat with this affair? Surely they would have done medical checks before him signing the pre-contract? If that failed to pick up the problem then what injury has he sustained recently which has resulted in this medical failure? Levein and the OS revealed his signing much too soon, and now the deal has collapsed. What a shambles by all concerned. Giving the fans a false sense of hope only to pull the plug at the last minute. This reminds me of the Jason McAteer debacle. The club never learns. I'm not too bothered that he's not coming - Levein said he wouldn't be a starter and would be one for the future, so it's not a great loss. But I am disappointed in the club and in Levein for announcing this 'signing' when it wasn't even a done-deal. <_<

Knighton Matt Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 i don't agree. he signed a pre contract agreement so he was our player it wasn't just speculation that he would sign so why shouldn't the club announce it. he subsequently fails a medical so the club cancel the pre contract agreement. seems very simple not to mention sensible to me why are people getting so annoyed about it and why blame levein when surely it is in mace's control of what gets told to the media and what doesn't?
Knighton Matt Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 plus forgot to say how can you give someone a medical before you announce the deal as he could have passed his medical then broken his leg on the last day of the season it doesn't make any sense.

That way they can find out whether the player is actually fit enough and doesn't have any medical problems BEFORE he signs a pre-contract for us. Mace doesn't censor everything Levein says, so if Levein tells the press that he has signed Sturm on a pre-contract how can we blame Mace for it?

Steven Posted 10 May 2005 Author Posted 10 May 2005 The question we have to ask ourselves is whether the pre-contract has the same legal basis and obligations as a contract. If so then a medical should take place when it is signed or if not at a later date. Secondly maybe the Club knew about his problem all along but were hoping to find a solution to it later.

Solihullfox Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Blimey Anish, always look on the bright side of life eh.
Anish Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Blimey Anish, always look on the bright side of life eh. 106230 It pissed me off completely when the club announce something like this (such and such a player is about to sign for us) and then it doesn't happen. Building up the hopes of fans only to disappoint. It's not like this is a one-off either, as McAteer's example also proves. If you can't fulfill your promises, don't make them in the first place. Surely not too much to ask for?
Leicesterboi Posted 10 May 2005 Posted 10 May 2005 Agreed Anish that it should be more in concrete but atleast CL is trying to do the right thing and bring in new players- ones for the future aswel. it's a difficult one but we cant point the finger as we dont know who is to blame
