How to inspire unity

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson says he "would not swap his squad for any other in the Championship".

And when I consider the reasons why we have climbed so steadily from the depths of despair that comment says so much.

When Holloway arrived I knew from the moment he started calling his players that he had no chance.

Especially when it was going to be weeks before he could do anything about it.

Even if you are desperate to make changes you have to show faith in the people you've got.

And while I don't doubt tyhat Pearson might like to draw various individuals from various Championship teams into his own camp I've never got the impression that he's a liar so if he says he wouldn't swap the squad he's got for anyone else's I'm inclined to believe him.

And, while that shouldn't lure anyone into complacency or into the belief that Pearson wouldn't make improvement in certain areas if he could, it is nevertheless a massive compliment and public declaration of confidence in his players' ability.

Very reassuring and not without substance despite the fact that they can all improve still further on what they've achieved so far.

I read this in the mercury yesterday. Thought it was a brilliant show of confidence to the players and like you say surely it will have a positive impact on the squad. If I remember correctly he said he wouldn't swap Newcastles squad with ours. In all honesty im sure Smith and Nolan would walk straight into our team.

You only had to look at our reserve side we put out against Derby recently to see how far we have come. It's a long time since I was really pleased with our squad. Long may it continue.

The point Pearson makes I think goes beyond the players ability and is more a reflection of the personalities, morale and spirit within the squad.

Im sure that was what he was getting at, said the squad was well balanced. Still wouldn't say no to Smith at Leicester. He was by far there stand out player that night.

What a difference from the Megson 'this squad isn't good enough' days.

We didn't have enough right backs for his liking.

I agree - compared to the squad we had under Holloway I think NP has made some great signings - I still maintain that we need another striker to be scoring enough goals to make the play-offs realistic - but generally I think NP has done a grand job thus far
