Looking at the posts, most seem negative but more people vote yes.

I still think Davids might add value, although I admit its a risk - i wouldn't sell the family jewels to get him but a guy with experience like that could bring some ideas during one of those many games where we don't seem to have a clue out on the field of play.

worth a shot - but not at any cost.

You are undoubtedly right. Mandaric has gone down that road before with our links to Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler to name two and there may be some commercial sense in involving Davids to help promote our name - particularly in Europe and more especially if Davids can demonstrate some form and fitness on the field.

If he does sign you can only hope it happens - Davids was one of my favourite players - but will the clicking cameras and instant media frenzy really be justified on the field of play or in the wider world of football in the longer term?

We'll never know for sure until the situation pans out but, for me, focusing on winning promotion would be preferable to the cheap media hype that the Davids circus will doubtless prompt and the possible loss of our principal focus that might go with it.

This is either a risky PR exercise or our management know more about Davids' fitness than they ever seemed to know about Carl Cort, Geoff Horsfield, Lee Hendrie, JFH and that Ferrara guy we signed.

ahhh phoooy!

have some imagination, we need a player that will make a difference!

The only thing i worry about is if he has an EGO or rather how big it might be!

If Milan is prepared to stump up the cash to buy this guy for all the PR hype it might bring, it may just also make a positive contribution on the field as well, we might end up with the right guy for the wrong reasons again, i am reminded of collymore (short term boost) and Cottee..

I reckon he could do a job. He would have to play infront of the back four, winning the ball and threading passes around. Only thing that I question is his ability to chase down the ball. At 36, he still has something left, and he won't have lost his passing ability. Even if he is used to keep possession or hit decent long balls, he'll be doing a job.

Although, can we really judge him until we know what level of fitness he's at.

I suppose my main problem with this is David's ego. He is bound to have a huge ego (rightly so), I wouldn't be surprised if he's hard to manage.

If Davids rolls the years back and achieves things for Leicester I don't give a shit about the size of his ego - lots of footballers have big egos and aren't especially good.

Collymore was always more of a tragedy than a success despite leaving us all with the memory of that wondrous hat-trick against Sunderland but if the bloke does anything like as well as Cottee I'll be a big fan.

But at 36 and having spent so long out of the game I just don't believe his body will want to know. Any more than Carl Cort's or Paul Dickov's.

But if Pearson/Mandaric are right and I'm wrong I'll be glad to acknowledge it quickly enough.

How do we know that he hasn't kept fit since then? The way I read it in the articles is he is still fit just lacking match fitness.

A lot of professional sportsmen don't just quit the gym as soon as they retire. I suppose it's built into them to keep there bodies fit.

id probably want any player of Davids stature to play for Leicester at any age.

Luis Figo- no thanks his fitness might not be up to it.

Fat Ronaldo- ill pass thanks

Zidane- bad attitude.

I think his skill over one famous headbutt would make me want him here at City!!

Wasn't Tunchev just lacking match fitness a few weeks back - and he'd not retired?

We've had a history of rushing people who were short of match fitness back into the first team instead of easing them through over time in the reserves - Gareth Williams, Wesolowski, Fryatt, Kisnorbo etc - but I don't see that it ever did us much good.

And I couldn't see Edgar Davids spending a month in our Reserves! :D

But anyway we'll see. Perhaps he'll arrive tomorrow lunchtime and have a 90-minute blinder at Reading on Saturday.

Then we'd all be singing his name and the resulting shirt sales would be wonderful.

We lack players that can make a difference, that can provide that touch of class that gets us a goal from nowhere and earns us points.

Davids could be that man, i'm tired of unadventurous shit, hoofball Howard play from LCFC.

But Tunchev was injured so couldn't even run on a treadmill.

I'm not saying he should be thrown straight in but I wouldn't be so worried about his fitness as some are suggesting. We also have a very good medical team and would expect them to have a final verdict of wether his body is up to the challenge.

Well he's not been at a club for nearly 18 months, obviously nobody thinks he any good.

Do you not read the articles. :frusty:

He retired and is now coming out of retirement. When you're retired you don't tend to look for work.

Ah so he himself thought his legs had gone, works pretty much the same way.

Your just assuming this though. Why can't a footballer just retire without justification for his actions. Probably realised he retired to early and missed the game to much.

For all we know he may have made this decision in the summer and has been working hard on his fitness and now the time is right.

It depends which way you want to look at it at the end of the day, don't just look at it from a negative point of view.

I'm not saying players should have to justify their retirements but if they're going to come out retirement and cost a lot of money then I'll want a lot more reassurance than just his past reputation.

There are two reasons why he and ultimately all players retire:

1) Physically - he felt he couldn't keep up a decent level physically

2) Psychologically - he felt he had no desire to carry on, no need to carry on

Those two reasons are why I don't want this player at the club. There are serious doubts over whether he can cut it physically and even more serious doubts about his willingness to put in a shift in. Do you really think he's going to relish trips to the likes of Bloomfield Road and London Road when there's all this crap about image rights floating around. This is the championship not a Nike advert for crying out loud, I don't see why we'd want to load ourselves with all this unnecessary hassle. Even if Davids amazingly recaptured his form from 10 years ago, we'll never see it because this team doesn't play through midfield.

Your points are spot on Dan but I'm just thinking that physically we wouldn't sign him unless we know he can do a job on and off the pitch and the medical team have procedures in place to establish wether or not he is "past it".

Psycholoigcally he may have lost the desire but who's to say he hasn't rekindled this after a break.

Anyway we will see. :)
