cecchini Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I think Davids could be anothe Tony Cottee - experince and positive influence could be the difference we need for a push to the prem.
Babylon Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I think Davids could be anothe Tony Cottee - experince and positive influence could be the difference we need for a push to the prem. I've got some wallpaper that needs hanging... he can do that.
foxer Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Maybe short term. Pearson wont play him if he isn't up to it, probably wont sign him either. I reckon the wages could be spent better elsewhere though.
cecchini Posted 21 October 2009 Author Posted 21 October 2009 could be an option... but then its not as though we have an abundance of strong midfielders either. To be honest I cannot make up my mind, I like to think he would bring valuable experience and solidity, but then - hey i'm no Thracian!
Ei Ei Ei O Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Lets sign him up, he can play a couple of games before getting injured and we can stick a 20 foot tall picture of him on the stadium like we did with Roberto Mancini.
Podge Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I voted against this move, but this poll lost any sense of credibility when it suggests that his goals could make a difference since Davids just doesn't score so that wouldn't be where he made a difference if any.
jonw88 Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 It doesn't make that much sense given that we have a fairly strong midfield at the moment, plus with Clemence coming back we should have enough cover. Where do people reckon he would be likely to play? Centre mid, wing, attacking midfield?
Ozwin Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I'd like to think he'd play at DM giving Oakley and Wellens more freedom going forward but then we'd have to play either a diamond or 4-3-3/4-5-1.

Ozwin Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Yeah I was thinking the same, 4-3-3 can change to a 4-5-1 pretty easily if you'd holding out for a win or whatever.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Could do well, but I think it will all turn sour. Like the Sol Campbell saga at Notts.
Chrysalis Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I think will disrupt the squad and be a waste of cash, the prime motivation for MM is probably to raise the profile of the club.
StanSP Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Total waste of time and money. I wanted an essay
scinnell Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 To be honested, ill rather get a young, hungry championship midfeilder than and old legend of a player whose legs have gone.
StanSP Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 To be honested, ill rather get a young, hungry championship midfeilder than and old legend of a player whose legs have gone. Who says his legs have gone?
whitlock Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 MM trying to raise the profile of the club by using Davids so he can find it easier to flog the club to foreign investors!
Thracian Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 I think will disrupt the squad and be a waste of cash, the prime motivation for MM is probably to raise the profile of the club. You are undoubtedly right. Mandaric has gone down that road before with our links to Hasselbaink and Robbie Fowler to name two and there may be some commercial sense in involving Davids to help promote our name - particularly in Europe and more especially if Davids can demonstrate some form and fitness on the field. If he does sign you can only hope it happens - Davids was one of my favourite players - but will the clicking cameras and instant media frenzy really be justified on the field of play or in the wider world of football in the longer term? We'll never know for sure until the situation pans out but, for me, focusing on winning promotion would be preferable to the cheap media hype that the Davids circus will doubtless prompt and the possible loss of our principal focus that might go with it. This is either a risky PR exercise or our management know more about Davids' fitness than they ever seemed to know about Carl Cort, Geoff Horsfield, Lee Hendrie, JFH and that Ferrara guy we signed.

He'll do a better job than our other geriatric legend that is Paul Dickov.
deepbluedevil Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Reminds me of when we went in for Hasselbaink just before Martin Allen got the sack
Guest Posted 21 October 2009 Posted 21 October 2009 Reminds me of when we went in for Hasselbaink just before Martin Allen got the sack I am reminded of Mancini, but it doesn't stop me from getting excited.
