Libertine Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I hate religion with a passionif i had the choice of going to hell and getting pissed, doing drugs and getting hookers with Hitler, Stalin and Saddam Hussein or going to heaven and sitting around all day drinking tea and playing gin rummy with a bunch of boring old people, i know which one i'd choose I... I just...
Asha Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 I honestly can't think of hardly anyone who goes to church apart from some old dears I know.I just reckon that most of the folk who claim to be Christians in England nowadays would not be able to answer two questions about the Bible. I'll give you that, a vast number of people who regularly attend Church are probably what you'd call 'old aged'. For whatever reason, it seems a lot of young people in my generation don't have any form of knowledge on the religion, whereas maybe the generation before would have. It came as quite a shock to me, even though I attend a school with mostly asian kids, that in Religious Studies lessons there was virtually nothing on Christianity at any point.

Obviously I work in a school and one hour of Religious Education is taught a week, in which I've never seen a lesson based on Christianity.

And where are you getting your perceptions of heaven and hell from? Not that you'd really give a toss, but what I believe heaven is - is a lot more than 'sitting around all day drinking tea' and 'playing gim rummy with a bunch of boring old people'.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 That's just great. And where are you getting your perceptions of heaven and hell from? Heaven is what you make it.... we obviously have different perceptions of it.
Libertine Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Heaven is what you make it.... we obviously have different perceptions of it. Precisely. So therefore it wouldn't have to be as you'd described.
Asha Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Heaven is what you make it.... Ok, but considering you 'hate religion with a passion' then surely you wouldn't believe in such a place?
LCFC-ARAB Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 Ok, but considering you 'hate all religions with a passion' then surely you wouldn't believe in such a place? I don't buuuuut if i did, i know what i'd want my heaven to be like that makes more sense than saying i want to go to hell
StanSP Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 If heaven's what you make it, then isn't hell what you make it as well?? Or are the requirements for anyone's hell to be fire with a devil ruling the place?
Asha Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 If heaven's what you make it, then isn't hell what you make it as well??Or are the requirements for anyone's hell to be fire with a devil ruling the place? The way I see it, heaven can be what you make it, but why should hell be? Anyone who ends up in hell has been judged by God as someone who has done 'many wicked things'. In my eyes, hell wouldn't be what you make it, you wouldn't have a choice as to how horrific it would be.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 If heaven's what you make it, then isn't hell what you make it as well??Or are the requirements for anyone's hell to be fire with a devil ruling the place? yeah thats what i'm saying the generic idea of heaven (i imagine it to be like a cruise for old people on clouds) is my idea of hell
Asha Posted 22 October 2009 Posted 22 October 2009 yeah thats what i'm sayingthe generic idea of heaven (i imagine it to be like a cruise for old people on clouds) is my idea of hell The generic idea of heaven is normally a view from non-christians. The whole fluffy clouds thing is not a religious viewpoint.

Asha Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 and i'm not religious.....what do you imagine heaven to be like? just curious if you're religious that is Yes I am, and I imagine heaven to be similar to how it's described in the bible. I imagine it to be a place where there's no body, just where your soul is happy and content to a level unimaginable. I imagine it to be a place of laughter, happiness and fun. There will be no more sadness, or pain. Everyone will be awestruck by God, his amazing love, wonder and majesty.
Fosse Boy Posted 23 October 2009 Author Posted 23 October 2009 The generic idea of heaven is normally a view from non-christians. The whole fluffy clouds thing is not a religious viewpoint. Damn those Looney Tunes. They informed us otherwise. Are there at least harps though?

My problem with religion is i can never tell when someone(in this case nsll) is taking the piss or being deadly serious. Because I feel bad about having a chuckle at what he just put.

I hope you make it there

Serious matey, it's just what I believe and imagine it to be though, so fair enough if it seems a little strange or even humorous to other people. That does sound good!I hope you make it there I hope so too like, I hope so too.

There is a good reason for this. People don't buy the whole man with a beard sitting in the clouds. We are taught science which puts every religion straight out the window. How can you teach people that we all came from adam and eve and then the next day learn in science that it's a load of tosh. It's one big contradiction.

Valid Religion was more popular before science came along.... and i don't think it's a coincidence

How can people 'buy' the religion thing when they're not even learning about it? They're not given the opportunity to even form a basic understanding of the religion and therefore make their own decision. Unless born into an already religious family, very few will make the decision for themselves.

With the ever-increasing advancements in technology it won't be long before all religions are extinguished.
