Zingari Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 I prefer "The Life of Brian", to be honest. SPLITTER !!
Finnegan Posted 23 October 2009 Posted 23 October 2009 Anyone want to join my religion? No coins in the collection plate, it scratches the pewter. All major credit cards accepted. That's worryingly close to my house.
Babylon Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 And I am not blinkered in the slightest. My mind is far more open than yours I would bet anything on that. You're mind is so open you denounce evolution, what a brilliantly open mind you have. You only believe what you read in religious books and religious based youtube videos. Your mind is only open to answers then stem from a religious view point. There isn't a single shred of evidence to prove a god exists or any of the "magic" that appears in religious texts... yet you are happy to believe it without a single doubt in your mind. If you sat there and said "it could all be nonsense, it's just what I think is right", I'd have so much more respect for you. I've never said god does not exist, I'm wide open to the idea something sparked off the universe. So i'm really not sure where you get the idea your mind is more open, you are the one completely ruling out anything that doesn't have religion as its basis. You keep using the fact that some scientists believe in a creator as some kind of pointer to it being true, yet most of the same scientists believe in evolution by a huge majority yet you won't accept that.
Samilktray Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 Gutted Dinosaurs became extinct. Woulda loved a pet Diplodocus.

You keep using the fact that some scientists believe in a creator as some kind of pointer to it being true, yet most of the same scientists believe in evolution by a huge majority yet you won't accept that. The points about me above are mainly false I may of been wrong to say 'my mind is more open than yours' but it seemed to me that you accused me of being closed minded when I'm not and I went defensive again. I don't completely denounce evolution. And I certainly don't only believe what I read in Religious books. I often say how majority of the Bible has been falsified and changed/added to over the years. I hardly believe much of the Bible. I do believe in the Prophets like Jesus, Moses etc. yes and if we still had their instructions nowadays I would follow them to the letter. Youtube videos I watch but 95% of them I ridicule or laugh at. Watching a lecture on Youtube by Chomsky for example is no different to watching it on dvd, so not all youtube videos are poor or ill-informed. Alot of what I say may be nonsense, I admit, but I would say there is no doubt that some power lies behind this universe and I would never accept that it happened by chance. When it comes to my beliefs having a religious basis I'm not like most in that sense cos I know just how religion has been ambushed by world leaders and can be used for wrong so I don't just follow as many do. I really study it and find out how the innovators intended for it to be and I try to live that way. I do bring scientists into it yes, but I do that because it sometimes seems that people try to say that science disproves an intelligent power behind everything, when it doesn't. Some of those scientist do believe in evolution and some don't. If evolution does get proven to be the way it happened that still wouldn't change my faith in any way though. The big bang was a piece of 'magic' in a way. It was a chemical reaction that created planets and all the attributes needed to sustain life in some parts. In my opinion, there has to be something powerful behind that.

Edmund Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 If you take 5 minutes and watch this video from 5.00 onwards this explains one of the reasons why I believe in God. It has an explanation of the Big Bang and someone reads a couple of Religious verses that have convinced me of their truth. The two verses used are some of my favourite from the Bible or Koran (I love both). I'd rather watch National Geographics version
Bryn Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 Why anyone bothers searching for stimulating debate on such a topic on an internet forum is beyond me, and yet every single forum has this thread. About 18 times a year.

BoneDog Posted 24 October 2009 Posted 24 October 2009 I'd rather watch National Geographics version Yes, but you gotta admit those 2 verses from 1400 years ago perfectly match what actually did and is still happening! "Do not the unbelievers see that the Heavens and the Earth were joined together as one unit of Creation, before We clove them asunder." "And the Heavens We have built with Power and Force, and We are constantly expanding it." Both spot on
