You really do talk some bollox!!!

The SCC has a membership of 32500 and the vast majority of them go to watch Scotland more in hope than in expectation.

The membership is limited to 32500 and has been closed to new members for more years than I can remember. For this reason you'll find up to twice as many fans travelling without tickets to all away games.

To qualify for any tournament would be enough for any Scotland believe me.

For arrogant and high expectations see the Welsh rugby fans 1980-2005.

Rugby is like the national religion in Wales. The difference also being that Wales had a right to be arrogant about their Rugby they were indeed the best in the world at one stage and are also intermittently the best in Europe . Its a bad comparison really.... Welsh Rugby fans have some justification for being arrogant and having high expectations about their Team.. Scottish football fans have no right whatsoever

In the 1970s the Northern Hemisphere was "the World" really. There wasn't a World Cup and the Lions Tours (often dominated by Welsh players) were the biggest games between the North and the South. It's not that the All Blacks and the Ozzies weren't good or didn't matter, there was just less exposure to them.

I don't remember any sense of entitlement growing up following a poor Welsh rugby side. Levels of expectation often shot up as we suffered false dawn after false dawn but there wasn't a sense of arrogance or self righteousness in it. Rugby's the biggest thing in Wales so it always gathered enthusiasm, passion and frequent disappointment but after failing to adapt to the professional era I don't remember spending my childhood listening to the sort of dellusional whinging you get from a lot of Scots football fans these days.

Was I the only one who found that post by Finners pure gold?

Apparently so. :P

..and they were fantastic to watch, the Rugby played then and particularly by Wales seemed so much more enjoyable, a lot of it now is like the way football has gone all about percentages, there seems to be more kicking, more interuptions/fouls, petty rules/stoppages and much less running with the ball.

Or maybe the past always looks better.

Little bit of both, I think. I thought some of the rugby we played in 2005 was absolutely blinding, immensely flowing, quick stuff.

The issue you have these days is that with increasing numbers of big, fast, strong athletes out there it's far easier to play a structured, organized, defensive game and counter that sort of free-running rugby; which leads to kicking for territory.

Recent rule changes are a farse, however. Watching punt tennis isn't exactly remarkably exciting.

The worst manager in our history. I am glad he is gone.

I'm not too sure about that. He was a shit manager but I'd say that Vogts was worse.

I'd defiently agree with this

George Burley is officially the worst manager we have ever had. Lower win percentage than Berti.

as some might say you can't polish a turd

with the expansion of Europe and nations like Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine,Croatia Serbia, Bosnia and so on Scotland have slipped down the list and it's tougher than ever to qualify for a tournament. they simply don't have a good enough pool of players they are always going to struggle, you can have the best manager in the world but if they haven't got good enough players you are never going to qualify.

I mean they are still picking Kevin Kyle

Whilst I agree we will never be world beaters we should have finished second in that group. Burley couldn't have hand-picked an easier group. We are not as bad as you make out and challenging for second should be achievable. Kyle is crap but he has had one sub appearance (in that match against Wales) in five years.
