Goodbye George Burley?

Could see Craig Levein being named the new boss, if burley gets the sack. Also wonder if Darren Fergusons in amongst the odds, he did a very good at Peterboro. Still can't see why he left.

Darren Fergurson is a good shout. Mark Hughes and Lawrie Sanchez have already shown that if you put in a valiant qualifying effort with one of the other home nations it can land you a premier league job, could be a good career move for him.

But why the fuck would the Scots FA want him?

Scotland's been in a downfall for 10+ years. And you cannot just blame Vogts for the demise. It started way earlier.

It did and to be honest, I can only see it getting worse. At least Wales have some good young players - what have Scotland got?

Was that an intentional double negative or are you being thick?

I don't think Wales are world beaters in the making but claiming there's no potential in Ramsey, Ledley, Collison, Edwards, Evans, Vokes, Church, Bale, Gunter, Hennesey, Williams, King et all is a little bit dense.

Toshack inspires me with no great enthusiasm but the prospect of this side being together for the next ten years is truly interesting.

Instead of all the pointless friendlies we play, the home nations tournament should be reinstated.

This was suggested last summer when none of the home nations qualified for the European Championships, I'm not 100% why it didn't happen, I've heard a few people say different things - 1) Our (England) players couldn't be bothered and would rather lie on a beach - Fair enough in one way its the only time they get off/have a holiday, e.t.c, but at the same time this is playing for the country - Nothing new to many of them but it still should be an honour, and 2) The other reason I heard was Scotland and Wales didn't really want to be involved, as I said don't believe any of those suggestions just what I heard from a few people when a Home Nations tournament was suggest last summer.

You do talk some bollocks, Matt. It was the Olympic side that the Welsh and Scots weren't intersted in. There is a home nations cup. The home nations DID agree to it when nobody qualified in fact the only nation that isn't interested is England.

It'll start in 2011 (these things take ages to prepare, you weren't really expecting one to magically appear in the summer after England failed to qualify?) and as far as I know it's being hosted all in Dublin.

Yes, I talk some bollocks repeating what I have been told by different people (and stating that - twice, and also stating one of the reasons you have suggested) :rolleyes:

Oh sorry buddy.

I meant "my mate told me you talk a lot of bollocks, Matt."

My bad.

xox <3

Ok, atleast you corrected the mistake!

Can you ask your mate where I have or the people who told me talked bollocks? As a Home Nations tournament was suggested last summer (Albeit briefly and as you said lack of time was a problem) and I also suggested one of the reasons you (Or your mate) have also suggest (As it was England who were not really interested).

As for not knowing a Home Nations tournament will be happening in 2011, I'm sure if you ask many people, not that many will know, If they do, My bad that I haven't heard this.

Anyway we should be getting back to the subject of the Sweaty Socks.

It's been on Sky News for the last half hour - try typing George Burley in google

Despite the fact that he hasn't had the best pool of players to choose from, Burley was well out of his depth.

I know it didn't work out last time (Vogts) but I suspect they'll choose a manager with a lot of international experience or at the very least an experienced coach.

More to the point, who else would want the job? They're as far away from qualifying for an international tournament as they've ever been, tumbling down the world rankings and it's hard to see where the talent is coming from to replace the current crop. Wales do at least seem to have some prospects coming through, and look a decent shout to qualify for a major tourney within the next few years, Northern Ireland seem to improve with every qualifying campaign and as a result Scotland look increasingly the weakest side in the British Isles right now. Scotland can't go much further backwards so a young and ambitious manager like Ferguson would have a lot to gain from such a move. Even if he takes them close to qualification and ends up with 'heroic failure' it would represent an improvement over the shit the Tartan Army have had to put up with over the past decade or more.

But the Scots are arrogant and expectations are cripplingly high. It was alright for Toshack to sweep in and rebuild Wales because we didn't care. We were so gutted after our failure to qualify in 2004 that the fickle Welsh populace had already started filtering away, giving up and heading back to rugby. Then we went and won the grand slam twice in four years and all of a sudden football's place was thrust back down the pecking order for sure.

We know we're crap and the fifteen odd thousand that show up to our home games are often coming more to see the glamorous stars of our opposition more than our own youngsters. But Hampden's not the same, Scotland's not the same.

The Scots believe their own hype. The Scots are the Geordies of the international football world. They have this odd sense of false entitlement and the SFA are slaves to these whims. They'll go and naively try and recruit some other veteran of management in the hope he'll restore national pride and they'll splutter through another campaign, scraping some rare victory against an ageing "superpower" in a Hampden showdown before falling short again.

True story, the Tartan Army are like the Ingerlund fans without the talent pool. The fact that Wales have been able to build what is showing signs of becoming a tidy team is down to the fact that they've been able to do so without the intense media glare afforded to the Scots and the English. Scotland will still get 50,000 for Andorra at home, whereas Wales could conceivably play a similar fixture at Swansea. The problem is that Scots think that that helps but all it does is create extra pressure on a team that is the worst Scottish team I've seen since Vogts' reign. Can't help thinking the Tartan Army need a nice, healthy dose of reality to realise that their team is actually very poor indeed and the days of their being an ever-present at international tournaments are in the past. The problem is that no amount of horrible results like the thrashings in Oslo and Cardiff seem to make them realise that it isn't the manager, but the team itself. The causes are too numerous to list without reeling off an essay but I can't help thinking that the decided lack of Scottish blood in the Old Firm and other top SPL squads is a problem. That's why I wouldn't advise England fans to laugh too hard at their predicament with the way our Premiership is becoming.

So what does that make the English?

Ingerlund = Geordies

Scotland = Leeds

You really do talk some bollox!!!

The SCC has a membership of 32500 and the vast majority of them go to watch Scotland more in hope than in expectation.

The membership is limited to 32500 and has been closed to new members for more years than I can remember. For this reason you'll find up to twice as many fans travelling without tickets to all away games.

To qualify for any tournament would be enough for any Scotland believe me.

For arrogant and high expectations see the Welsh rugby fans 1980-2005.
