Ford Super Sunday Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Fifa's Sepp Blatter has revealed the Republic of Ireland have requested a spot in the 2010 World Cup finals as an extra team after their play-off defeat. The Republic lost to an extra-time goal against France when Thierry Henry handled the ball during the build-up. "I will bring it to the attention of the Executive Committee," said Blatter. The president of football's world governing body added that goal-line technology and extra referees would be considered for the South Africa finals. Linkypoo My oh my, bizzare much. To be fair, I wonder how long it took Sepp to come up with that quote, I mean he must have spent the last few days laughing. If Ireland really think FIFA are gonna do that, they are pissing into a hurricane
Fosse Boy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 I have every sympathy for what happened to Ireland, but that is really embarrassing.
Corky Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 They should concentrate on making sure they're at the next tournament. They aren't going to South Africa next year, let it go now.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Hope they get it. Then England can be joint winners of the 1986 World Cup.
dandannieldanok Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Would like to hear what Roy Keane has to say about this.
Jimothy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Hope they get it.Then England can be joint winners of the 1986 World Cup. Also Leicester can be joint winners of the 1997 FA Cup.
Unit Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 They're doing my head in now, just get over it, they'd never have got past the group stages anyway! Also where has all the ireland sympathy come from? nobody would give a fook if it was us in this position!
hairy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 If they got rid of this playoff crap and got back to the old system then there would be no complaining
Fosse Boy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Are they suggesting it becomes 11 groups of 3, or 3 groups of 11, or what?
hairy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Are they suggesting it becomes 11 groups of 3, or 3 groups of 11, or what? Theres a central/south american team (cant remember who) who were knocked out by a goal that should have been offside who have applied as well.
Fosse Boy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Theres a central/south american team (cant remember who) who were knocked out by a goal that should have been offside who have applied as well. Costa Rica I think? So that makes it either 17 groups of 2, or 2 groups of 17. Definitely gonna happen.
hairy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 2 groups of 17 would make it last forever and be the best WC ever! Bring it on Blatter!
Finnegan Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 the quote on that BBC link made a decent point. To be fair, they still had to win the penalty shoot out...
Finnegan Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Fuck the Irish. That's not a very Liverpool attitude.
Uncle Albert Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 That's not a very Liverpool attitude. Brilliant.
Fosse Boy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 It will never happen unfortunately. You'd want 33 teams in the World Cup?
Fosse Boy Posted 30 November 2009 Posted 30 November 2009 Translation? I'm guessing the English don't come off favourably...
