leftsideoverhere Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Posting this in general sport rather than in the Leicester forum, as I'm not keen on tempting fate. Does anyone want to hazard a guess at when the playoff semi-finals will be next May? Greg is desperate to get tickets for the Black Eyed Peas who play at Birmingham on Saturday, May 8th, and tickets go on sale on Friday. So we need to decide now if we're going, or if we make the much longer journey (and probably miss school / work) to see them in London on either the 5th or the 6th. But I don't want to clash with any of the possible championship playoff dates. The championship 'last day' is Sunday, May 2nd. Three weekends later, the playoff final is on Saturday 22nd. So somewhere within those three dates are four semi-finals. Last year, the championship semis were: 1st Leg Fri 8th May 6 v 3 19.45 Sat 9th May 5 v 4 17.20 2nd Leg Mon 11th May 3 v 6 19.45 Tues 12th May 4 v 5 19.45 The last day last season was Sunday, May 3rd, and the playoff final was on the 25th (Bank Holiday Monday) meaning there was a three week gap from this date to the playoff final, and the semis were played over the first weekend. So, does anyone want to hazard a guess as to whether they'll be on the weekend of the 7th - 10th or the weekend of the 14th - 17th next May? In other words, will they be closer to the last day of the regular season, or closer to the playoff final? If they follow the pattern of last season, then the Birmingham gig might be a clash, but I know the fixtures have been altered to take account of the world cup. Any views? Ta

Ford Super Sunday Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Do you just copy everyone else? No, I just judge you on your posts, and I have come to the conclusion that you must be about 7 or 8. Well, the intellect anyway God bless little one, god bless
Sly Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 I don't understand why the huge gap between the games anyway. They should just get on with it. Personally, I think we'll miss out on the playoffs.

Ta With the World Cup, as you may have deduced, the CCC play-off final this season is first, as opposed to the last one like last season, being played on the Saturday. That connotes to me that they will start the first weekend after the season ends. If it is like last season, they'll do like you say, start with a Friday evening and a Saturday evening. But it's all down to Sky. They will decide when the games will be played, not the FL. I am sure they will be played first and before the League 1 and 2 matches. They might not decide to use the Friday evening this season, they might move it to a Sunday. whatever happens it'll be a gamble!
Sly Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Semis are held between the 10th and 14th May for both legs. The final is on the 22nd May.

leftsideoverhere Posted 16 December 2009 Author Posted 16 December 2009 Semis are held between the 10th and 14th May for both legs. The final is on the 22nd May. Source for that? You've asserted as a fact a set of dates which would mean all the semis are played mid-week in the same week, which seems very unlikely. I'd be delighted if you're right, but how do you know?
Asha Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Isn't the championship play-off final normally on a bank holiday monday?
Fosse Boy Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Isn't the championship play-off final normally on a bank holiday monday? They sometimes play them in reverse order.
lavrentis Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 We'd have automatic promotion by then so there's no need to worry

Someone texted me yesterday to ask me the same question, so I copied whatI had found out yesterday! I can't find the website that told me that now though! I've just looked on the football league site and nothing it stated on that so maybe they aren't actually set. Reasoning for Final move is here: LINK

Wycombe Fox Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Play off finals on my birthday! Same here - I'm 29 years closer to the grave than you though!
Fox92 Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Same here - I'm 29 years closer to the grave than you though! Don't think about things like that!
ousefox Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 I'm off to watch Frankie Boyle on May 12th. Got tickets in July i didn't even think about the playoffs being a possibility at the time. Luckily if Leicester are playing on that date i can probably sell the tickets for more on ebay anyway.

CosbehFox Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 They sometimes play them in reverse order. This year pretty certain the Championship final is played a week before cos of the World Cup.
