Pearson signings this season

ON THE SUBJECT OF SIGNINGS

Id say GALLAGHER was possibly the player with the most technical ability in the squad

BUT

I dont think he fits into our team at all. He cant play as a second striker because who do you drop? drop Howard and you dont win any aerial ball when the defenders inevitably start going long, and you cant really drop Fryatt either, because you drop the one player in the squad who is a goalscorer. He isnt a NATURAL wide player, hence he is out of position there too. Ideally, he could probably play behind the front two, or in a three up front.

Either way, that means changing the whole formation to accommodate one player. This obviously is a bad situation, so you would have to consider him as more of a miss than a hit.

WELLENS has done reasonably well, but there is more in him. Sometimes his retention of the ball can be poor BUT he also has to play the role of anchor man and break everything up too. Has struggled in the last couple of months but has done OK.

WAGHORN has looked very lively and is a player of good potential BUT HE ISNT OUR PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

McGIVERN has been awful BUT i dont believe he was signed with the intention of playing so many games. I imagine Pearson wanted 10 or so games from him as a back up, but with the injuries in the back four, he is playing week in week out and its important to understand HE IS A DEVELOPING PLAYER

NEILSON..........expected a lot more from a guy who was a captain. positionally inept and slow too. Poor signing in reality id say. BUT in his defence (excuse the pun) he gets NO HELP WHATSOEVER from Oakley in front of him who is turning into possibly my least favourite player.

KERMOGANT hasnt featured a great deal, and i would agree, he has done nothing to suggest to me he will score the goals or be anything other than a peripheral player.

N'GUESSAN has done well in the opportunities he has had in my opinion. He always offers you something, whether his be his directness, his willingness to get into the box, offering width, and popping up with the occasional goal too, so in my opinion he has done well and adjusted well to the step up in leagues.

Sorry to put a downer on things

I would agree Pearson spent better last season relatively speaking

BUT

We are in a strong position this season. Im not talking BAD players, just talking about the ONE OR TWO extra players needed to push us from top half to play off contenders.

What do you guys think?

Great post

That of course is given that the majority of my knowledge of this team is based TV and radio, but what you have written pretty much covers my thoughts, with a couple of diffferences.

Gallagher, The 3-4 times i have seen him, he has been total quality so compsed on the ball and great vision, i think your right we havent got him and the side perfectly melded yet, but i think it will come and he will be a star for us.

Neilsen a disapointment, but indeed, Oakley even more so. Which is also negatively affecting Wellens.

If we finish in the top 10 its a pretty good outcome and just a couple of clever(ly) ;) signings over the summer could set us well for a tilt at the top spots next season.

ON THE SUBJECT OF SIGNINGS....

Good points there. :appl:

Gallagher - Agree with what you're saying, at present he doesn't fit in to the side BUT, as you say, he is probably the most technically gifted player in the squad - so make him fit!

If Pearson can't do this then why did he sign him?

Wellens - The only regular starter with any real class on the ball - always has time, always has space, generally very good vision. The midfielders around him let him down.

McGivern & Neilson. Crap, no need for in-depth comment!

Kermogannt - Jury out. My view is that he was out of contract at a club that had just been relegated to the French 3rd division. I can't see him scoring many at this level.

N'Guessan - Big step up for him this season - may not cut it for 90 minutes but has shown he has something to offer coming off the bench.

As a side point to the the pissy comments from people saying 'being thankful for where we are' - I don't think there's a person on here who isn't thankful for the progress we've made over the past 18 months. However, in order to continue progressing the squad must continue to develop.

There's clearly weak spots in the side, individually and with general attributes (the lack of pace is the biggest concern for me) and so all I saw this thread as was supporters giving their views on who's come in and where we can continue to improve.

This division is stupidly tight and a run of three of four games without a win can see you plummet. We've just lost to Swansea and now have Barnsley away, Newcastle at home and then Blackpool away.

While we've had a very good season so far, there's a fine line between that and, say, the crappy season Cov have had and yet there's only 7 points between us!

All you 'think-positive-we'll-be-okay-stop-criticising' types have a look at the current starting XI and the full squad - can you honestly say you wouldn't change anything about it?! That's all people are commenting on, hardly a 'get pearson out' campaign is it?!

Gallagher doesn't fit the Pearson mould at all, bit of a strange one that. I really like him, but he just doesn't fit in.

McGivern is woeful at left back, he seems to think he's playing in midfield half the time. He looked better at centre back against Sheff Utd, but that was only for half a game so it's hard to judge.

Neilson is just hilariously shit.

Waghorn's a good player, but can't really play with Fryatt, it seems that it's one or the other, so Fryatt has to play or we'd never score.

Wellens is excellent, but spends half his time here watching the ball aimlessly punted over his head to the useless **** that is Steve Howard.

Don't see the point in N'Guessan at all, he's no better than Maxi or Dyer.

if gradel goes to leeds can he take neilsen and mcgiven with him as part of the deal

and dont think the critisism of howard is fair without him in the team we dont have a chance of winning many games

Posted

oh yeah i know mcgiven is only on loan but perhaps we can loan him to leeds

i bet the cardif wingers cant wait for tomorrow having to face mcgiven and neisen i would love to and i am nearly thirty five and getting slower

Posted

i hope if we do sell Gradel to Leeds that we get a fair price for him and re-invest the money wisely (im sure NP will do). Nobby SOLANO? lets hope at 35 he still has enough quality to make a difference at this level
