lildave3 Posted 17 January 2010 Posted 17 January 2010 Gotta agree.Gallagher is a waste of money how Pearson is currently using him, I still say put him upfront and he will score. I'd bet £3 billion he wouldn't.* Plus he's about 5th choice striker - pointless. * - I'm not going to.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Listen to this man, he speaks alot more sense than most of you
Thracian Posted 19 January 2010 Posted 19 January 2010 Hilarious that these threads pop up after a loss, suddenly lambasting all his signings and his work in the transfer market. Short memories. Sometimes you let your natural loyalty get in the way of your judgement. Lcfcsnow is just about right in all he says. Pearson's signings weren't even wonderful last season - they, and the budget we had, simply helped us earn promotion from a lousy division, and with a minimum of style for much of the time. I don't even think the blueprint was laid for this season because were're altogether too slow, predictable and dour having even sidelined what few pace or flair players we have into exile for months, Waghorn excepted. The faults that we showed last season have not been rectified by this season's signings and there is no evidence whatsoever that we are an improving side - more a team that is languishing becalmed in the Doldrums with no idea what to do about a glaring lack of speed and movement. Pearson will find it hard to change because, in many positions, he simply doesn't have the options. And sho's fault is that? Current criticism has sod-all to do with "one game" or short memories. Our shortcomings have been obvious to many on here for ages. Weale has been a good signing, Davies and Cleverly were good loanees with Waghorn quite likely to make "plus" number four. But the rest you can keep. Average Championship players at best and, unless their talent has been seriously subdued here by matchday tactics, I wouldn't have wanted any of them.

I'd say Wellens has been. He thrived in a passing Doncaster team, I watched them quite alot over the last few seasons and they were always a joy to watch, and most Doncaster fans would have said he was their star man. It looks to me like alot of our players don't have anywhere near enough freedom to express themselves, I'm bored of cautious management in this league... it's hardly going to make an attraction to better players. Still hoping by early February they'll have been changes.
stez Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 back in the days when 1 million pounds was a lot of money though as opposed to these days. anyway, re. the signings, they can't be that bad, because we've not been in this position, in this league, for years.

Many of our players are 'shoehorned' into a system designed to produce the direct, long ball tactics that have been the norm under Pearson. Despite everything the long ball to Howard / Fryatt remains our most effective attacking option and any (admittedly halfhearted) attempts by Pearson to move away from this system have, by and large, failed. I genuinely believed that early in the season, we had the opportunity to move away from this tactic and develop a more flexible passing style that would better suit many of our players, but sadly this did not happen. As the season progresses the players become more and more fixed in their ways and a major change in our style and tactics becomes ever more difficult without the addition of substantial new talent, which we can not of course afford!
Babylon Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Moan moan moan Yeah all these amazing free transfer players we could have signed that are high end championship/lower premier league standard. I'm not sure what Pearson is playing at getting all these average free transfer players.
lcfc_jme Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 This thread just goes to show how fickle football fans really are. We really have little to complain about...Granted when Brunos out we struggle at full back, but apart from that the squad needs no tweaking. A few defeats, and suddenly people question Nigels signings. Compared to recent seasons he's made some astute aquisitions. Whether we've overachieved or not so far (I don't believe we have btw...) - we have no grounds for complaint. We'll be in top 6 or thereabouts come May, which will be a tremendous achievement - arguably more so than last season. I wonder if people will complain then....? Yes, yes they will. Because we'll definitely have missed out an automatic promotion, which is failure in itself. Add that to the fact that we might finish in 6th and get the hardest playoff semi-final, or even worse, just inside the top 10 and miss out even on the playoffs, and I'd say that'd give cause to question Pearson's position as manager and even be sufficient grounds for him to be sacked.

It is how we are doing on the pitch, where we are in the table and how stable we are financially. Personally, I think we are fine in these aspects. Therefore, we really can't complain.
Alexikokopops Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 If we drop out of the top half then this place is going to be unbearable.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Wellens is awesome, Gallagher is playing out of position, Kermo needs a few more games under his belt, Neilson gets fucking hammered down the wing due to Oakley cutting in which leaves him as our option on the right wing which he is terrible at. McGivern is fucking wank I will give you that. This this this this fucking this.
mobi Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 I don't think anyone no matter how good they have been should be immune to criticism. Because to be human is to make mistakes. I don't think it is fickle to point out faults, just prudent. There are some valid points on this thread that are justified with regards to this season's transfer activity. Yes, absolutely yes McGivern is a bag of w**k! why his loan was renewed?? especially when we have already seen the fact that he is atrocious is beyond me. There has to be some better loanees out there no? I think Wellens is good, but the long ball tactics probably doesn’t suit him as this simply bypasses him. Gallaher could actually be worth £1m, but unless we see him consistently in a forward role, i guess we will never know. Similar can be said about Kermorgant, but simply needs more games. When we have three half decent right wingers, why are we playing Oakley out of position on the right? No actual right winger has even had a chance to make an impact this season. n'guessen adams gradel? Also, maybe we should be focusing our play down the left with Dyer, as he seems to be the only midfielder that actually seems be a threat.
mobi Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 oh....and I don't think this season's team can beat last season's team. Now that is saying something....
Mikey Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 oh....and I don't think this season's team can beat last season's team. Now that is saying something.... Why wouldn't it?
mobi Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Why wouldn't it? Bacuse of the difference in personnel, which reflects on this season's transfer activity.
dandannieldanok Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 If we drop out of the top half then this place is going to be unbearable. After the start we've had then it's going to be difficult not to criticise if we fall out of the top half. It would signify a remarkable turn in fortune and form if we did.
C-man Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Oh my sweet jesus. The 'opinions' of fans in this thread (amongst others) are part of my ever waning interest in LCFC and football in general at the moment. Last season, I'd happily travel from Sheffield to Yeovil the night before an exam because I wanted to be part of a positive, exciting time for our club. Sitting 7th in the Championship having spent very little money and developing a promising young team should mean that I'd jump at the chance to go to Cardiff on Saturday with no commitments to any work in the near future. But I just can't be arsed. Same as I couldn't be arsed to go Swansea. I don't want my pastime to be so full of negativity - either at the ground, on Radio Leicester's phone-in or on here after. Fair enough, everyone has their right to criticise but I've had enough of it. We're doing well for god sake. I'm sick of the comparisons to Forest, sick of the arrogance and tired of the expectancy. Its one thing to be ambitious and optimistic but to build yourself up so that you become a miserable old cunt when things go wrong is just pathetic. There's no reason why we should expect to win every game, no matter what Pearson says. He's a smart fella who won't be too perturbed with the current shortcomings of some of his squad. It's a 46 game season in which you need about 70 points for possible promotion, its not about winning every game. I don't really know what my point was, I just needed to get certain things off my chest, and it is no critique of any particular poster or moaner at the ground. I just wish things were a little more positive: our young players need to know they have the fans' support. After the Youth Cup game last week I couldn't believe that I had heard some booing of one of the best things about our club. Now there's a reason to be disillusioned with supporting a professional football club.

midfield Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 would not say negaativity just critism when you are watching poor player s in a city shirt i personally feel you can let your feelings be known when they are as poor as neilsen mcgiven gallegher kermo twat
Daggers Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Now that is saying something.... I love these 'fill in the blank' competitions, they're so much fun. Is the answer "retarded"?
Mikey Posted 20 January 2010 Posted 20 January 2010 Bacuse of the difference in personnel, which reflects on this season's transfer activity. Its impossible to tell. Silly statement to make.

I'm not sure what Pearson is playing at getting all these average free transfer players. they to my mind are not as big as Leicester either in terms of size of city or potential etc etc and it really saddens me that we are playing catch up with these sorts of teams. The positive is though that we are generally on an upward curve again (at long last) and i believe with the addittion of a couple of quality players could give promotion a really big go in the second half of the season. Come on City, we cant let the red half of the East Midlands beat us in getting promoted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
