mobi Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Its impossible to tell.Silly statement to make. Of course its impossible to tell, it is an opinion! Silly statement to make.
Guest Bilo Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Excellent post by C-Man that sums up a lot of the shit spouted on here. With the amount of money spent, 7th is an excellent return. I said 10th at the start of the season and thought myself optimistic, I dismissed many of those predictions that we would be in or around the play-offs as pie in the sky stuff. Four Four Two predicted we'd finish around 18th for fuck's sake (God knows what this forum would be like if that were the reality). Some of our fans compare us to Forest because they happen to be our local rivals and were in a very similar position to ourselves not so long ago but let's be clear about this. They've spent more money than we have, much more. It would be harsh to say they've bought their strong position but comparing us to them misses the point by a distance akin to the Grand Canyon. If you compare our position to Forest's in their first season back in the Championship, where they battled against going straight back down for much of the season in spite of spending far more money than Pearson did this summer, you'll be much closer to an objective assessment of where we are as a club. If by this time next year we've spent £10 million on players and made no progress, then you may have a right to complain. Pearson's too canny for that though, if he spent £10 million on players he would spend it wisely, of that you can be assured. The reality is however that we've spent a fraction of what Forest have yet find ourselves potentially only five points behind them after our games in hand have been played, and that's assuming their run of form continues. This from a team of free transfers, youth team products and loanees. Questioning Pearson's dealings in the transfer market is harsh to say the least. Wellens has played well for most of the season, Berner has been outstanding since joining the club and Hobbs and Morrison have deserved every bit of praise they've received. Dyer's pace has caused problems against decent teams in this division such as Sheffield United and Middlesbrough yet all these players cost next to nothing. Wellens was the most expensive at £1.2 million. Hardly free spending are we? Pearson is building a good team here and has proved himself a good manager at this level. The Forest debacle aside, we've very rarely seen the team outclassed by anyone in this division. In spite of us failing to get results against the leading lights of the division, we performed creditably against Newcastle and West Brom, and looked like genuine play-off contenders against the likes of the then form team of the division QPR and Sheffield United. I can honestly say that we've had perhaps a month where we've looked poor, the games against Plymouth, Scunny, Forest and Bristol City were disappointing to say the least but that's a four game run and nothing else. Basically, cheer up boysies and girlsies because it could be far, far worse. If you doubt that, speak to a Derby or Coventry fan. Failing that, think back to May 2008 and the position we were in. Then think about the progress we've made since that day at Stoke and realise that we're actually in the best position since we were promoted from this division in 2003.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 How much have you spent this season? Quite a lot more than some people think.
Babylon Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 How much have you spent this season? Over two years I think money buys are: Wellens - £1-1.2m Hobbs - £400k Gallagher - £600-800k N'Guessan - £200-400k Tunchev - 800k Brown - 200k Nicky Adams - 100k Michael Morrison - 100k You're looking at about £4m..... but we've sold Mattock, Stearman, McAuley and Hume for more than that. Overall I'd say we were up when it comes to sales/purchases.

Babylon Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 I'm pretty sure Gallagher was nearer the 1 million pound mark. Find the evidence and I'll gladly alter it.
The Doctor Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Nicky Adams and Michael Morrison too. i'm certain they were frees.
Tinman Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 I was having a look on here and comparing other championship teams spending to our shambles this season. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/wettbewe...uebersicht.html
Babylon Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 i'm certain they were frees. They were sort of... they are under 24 though so we would have to pay a very minimal fee for them. I put 100k each in the list.

Tinman Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Must be a load of crap because ours is wrong. That's what i thought, the red dogs is about right.
StanSP Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Must be a load of crap because ours is wrong. That's what i thought, the red dogs is about right. It's got McGivern as coming from Man Utd . ANd hasn't got half the fees anyway.
Babylon Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Anyway... we're not doing bad considering we're in profit transfer wise.
Edmund Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 I was having a look on here and comparing other championship teams spending to our shambles this season. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/wettbewe...uebersicht.html That's an interesting site although not entirely accurate as a lot of fees are missing and add ons and bonuses aren't taken into consideration. But that's not their fault considering a lot of transfers are undisclosed these days. I also forgot how much Ipswich have spent this season. That's a hell of a lot cash spent to be languishing in the bottom half.
Daggers Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 The look of pre-match player & wife meal by the end of the season:
caz05 Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Oh my sweet jesus. The 'opinions' of fans in this thread (amongst others) are part of my ever waning interest in LCFC and football in general at the moment.Last season, I'd happily travel from Sheffield to Yeovil the night before an exam because I wanted to be part of a positive, exciting time for our club. Sitting 7th in the Championship having spent very little money and developing a promising young team should mean that I'd jump at the chance to go to Cardiff on Saturday with no commitments to any work in the near future. But I just can't be arsed. Same as I couldn't be arsed to go Swansea. I don't want my pastime to be so full of negativity - either at the ground, on Radio Leicester's phone-in or on here after. Fair enough, everyone has their right to criticise but I've had enough of it. We're doing well for god sake. I'm sick of the comparisons to Forest, sick of the arrogance and tired of the expectancy. Its one thing to be ambitious and optimistic but to build yourself up so that you become a miserable old cunt when things go wrong is just pathetic. There's no reason why we should expect to win every game, no matter what Pearson says. He's a smart fella who won't be too perturbed with the current shortcomings of some of his squad. It's a 46 game season in which you need about 70 points for possible promotion, its not about winning every game. I don't really know what my point was, I just needed to get certain things off my chest, and it is no critique of any particular poster or moaner at the ground. I just wish things were a little more positive: our young players need to know they have the fans' support. After the Youth Cup game last week I couldn't believe that I had heard some booing of one of the best things about our club. Now there's a reason to be disillusioned with supporting a professional football club.
midfield Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 the problem with comparing last season to this is last season we were guaranteed a win in most matches and you cant beat watching a winning team on the way to the title it was exciting different grounds winning games most weeks we were one of the big fish this season little money spent a step up in standards better teams facing us our weaknesses on the pitch have been exposed that is the reason fans like to have a moan
Donut Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 ON THE SUBJECT OF SIGNINGS Id say GALLAGHER was possibly the player with the most technical ability in the squad BUT I dont think he fits into our team at all. He cant play as a second striker because who do you drop? drop Howard and you dont win any aerial ball when the defenders inevitably start going long, and you cant really drop Fryatt either, because you drop the one player in the squad who is a goalscorer. He isnt a NATURAL wide player, hence he is out of position there too. Ideally, he could probably play behind the front two, or in a three up front. Either way, that means changing the whole formation to accommodate one player. This obviously is a bad situation, so you would have to consider him as more of a miss than a hit. WELLENS has done reasonably well, but there is more in him. Sometimes his retention of the ball can be poor BUT he also has to play the role of anchor man and break everything up too. Has struggled in the last couple of months but has done OK. WAGHORN has looked very lively and is a player of good potential BUT HE ISNT OUR PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! McGIVERN has been awful BUT i dont believe he was signed with the intention of playing so many games. I imagine Pearson wanted 10 or so games from him as a back up, but with the injuries in the back four, he is playing week in week out and its important to understand HE IS A DEVELOPING PLAYER NEILSON..........expected a lot more from a guy who was a captain. positionally inept and slow too. Poor signing in reality id say. BUT in his defence (excuse the pun) he gets NO HELP WHATSOEVER from Oakley in front of him who is turning into possibly my least favourite player. KERMOGANT hasnt featured a great deal, and i would agree, he has done nothing to suggest to me he will score the goals or be anything other than a peripheral player. N'GUESSAN has done well in the opportunities he has had in my opinion. He always offers you something, whether his be his directness, his willingness to get into the box, offering width, and popping up with the occasional goal too, so in my opinion he has done well and adjusted well to the step up in leagues. Sorry to put a downer on things I would agree Pearson spent better last season relatively speaking BUT We are in a strong position this season. Im not talking BAD players, just talking about the ONE OR TWO extra players needed to push us from top half to play off contenders. What do you guys think?

[bilo spot on - i think your comments are brilliant, absolutely spot on, as fans lets face it we all get annoyed with some results from time to time but what you say in your comments above are brilliant and most fans i think will agree with you. I live in Leicester now but originally i am from Loughborough and grew up around the time F**est were winning European Cups etc so it was murder at school having the piss taken out of me and other City fans by a load of glory hunting fickle fans like that lot are so you can imagine the F**est result recently really really really really hurt me and to make matters worse i was in hospital at the time and didnt initially know the result until one of their lot text me to rub salt in but you have to put matters into perspective, we are in a lot stronger position as a club now than the majority of the last 5 or 6 years or so and generally we are on an upward curve, i think it might be a case of struggling through to the play-offs if were lucky this season and see what happen? im not being pessemistic saying that just honest. Up the Foxes, lets hope we can return the beating when that red lot visit later this season!!!
willchafer Posted 21 January 2010 Posted 21 January 2010 Apart from neilson I think they were all reasonably good signings. Yes some gave looked iffy this season but at the end of the day look where we are in the league..for me that says it all
