It's the most depressing situation to be in, in sport. Got the players, got the coaches, just not clicking. Before the game I'm quite sure any honest Englishman would have taken well over half our starting line up for their own, there's just really no cohesion, no confidence, no focus. Last six months has reminded me a lot of 2006 when the dressing room just absolutely capitulated. Jeremy Guscott, who normally doesn't know his arse from a banjo, made a good comment really about the major difference between Ireland and Wales being Ireland's massive, massive psychological superiority and it's very much true. They're so strong, so determined as a group. When things aren't going our way we're shit.

dandannieldanok Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 France just about the most impressive of the 6 teams on opening weekend, without really hitting top gear. I think that game signalled a bit of a change of approach from the France of old's flair play to a more bruising forward game. Worked a treat whatever it was Scotland were as expected, solid and sturdy, clung on in there with great grit and determination, nothing much attacking wise.

Up until the end it was honestly like watching us play in the 90s again, dire. They fully deserved to beat us. That little 10 minute spell (exactly the same as it was at Twickenham) just highlighted that we've got the quality there when we have the right mentality, they just can't seen to switch on for the other seventy odd minutes of the match. Shambles. Still. What an ending. What an ending. Heartbreaking if you're Scottish but that's one of the most dramatic things I've ever seen in sport.

Italy showed enough promise and enough heart in defence against Ireland to suggest this won't be a walkover for England.

I think you'll be in the money, France have been by far the most impressive team of the tournament so far. We've only had 5 games yet they've really stood out as the team to beat. Hopefully England can lay down a challenge by first of all thumping Italy today, but I don't think they will. England to win by 10-15 points with some nervous moments.

England were shit last week (sorry!) but Italy are an utter mess, quite sure they'll lose every game this year. Comfortably. (Unless we decide to give them a win, sounds like something we'd do right now!)
