Dylan Posted 14 February 2010 Posted 14 February 2010 If Pompey were wound up (put out of business), would there be an extra promotion spot to the Prem?? Does anyone know what would happen? Would be great if there's an extra promotion spot, more chances of us going up!
davieG Posted 14 February 2010 Posted 14 February 2010 Your assuming they wont finish bottom or be classed as finishing bottom, either way just 2 + Pompey would be deemed to be relegated I would imagine.

Usual go up and down from each league and an extra team comes up from the Conference.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 I think two go down from the Premier League. Usual go up and down from each league and an extra team comes up from the Conference. Then there wouldn't be enough teams in the Championship next year... there would have to be extra teams going up to make up the numbers, if not in this division, then certainly lower ones.
ozleicester Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Heard that the Fa is planning to give Pompey their "parachute payment" (due after relegation) of 11 million before they are even relegated? WTF? I am increasingly concerned that the entire Football League is built on quicksand.. and the water is coming in FAST.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Yeah, I heard that too... I think they were discussing it on Football Focus on Saturday. They didn't seem to think they'd do it though so the pressure is still very much on for Pompey. As for the rest of the league, well yes... a club that's getting into debt now is in serious danger and with so many owing so much already, big changes could take place in the coming years...

It's the Premier League that have control of Premier League payments. Search the internet and find out the difference between The FA, The Premier League & The Football League they are all different organisations with different powers and different responsibilities.

If you can find out what their responsibilities are perhaps you could print it out and send it to them...
Dylan Posted 18 February 2010 Author Posted 18 February 2010 Isnt there anywhere in the rules of the Football League, PL, or FA where it says a procedure that'll happen if this was to occur?
Monk Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 I thought about this, unless the FA were going to relegate an extra position from the prem, of course there would only be 3 promoted.
MC Prussian Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Why is it that I'm more and more under the impression that the majority of football clubs can't deal with finances. Back in the days, "don't spend more than you earn" was the credo. Some current owners/club managers must've been born deaf for sure.
Bert Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Only 3 teams would go up. Portsmouth would go out of business and two other teams would come, which is 3 spots. An extra team will come up from lower down the ladder.
