Hey, there's a couple of Bristol based fans...

Note - low vantage point makes ratings difficult...

Weale, 7 - Most of his meaningful work was at the opposite end, but he did make a couple of expected but needed saves. Distribution was ok - not much to hit with a short front three meaning Gallagher was the 'target man'

Morrison, 7 - Ok, didn't see much of him, again most of his action was the wrong side of me

Hobbs, 7 - Looked assured, showed some neat touches

Brown, 7 - Commited performance. Ok he hoofs it, but I don't think I'd like to see him try to pass, god knows where it would end up

Berner, 8 - Had the pacey Haynes and later on Sprole to deal with and did well. Got a silly booking early on so did well not to get himself into another difficult situation. Also showed some good stuff going forward.

(Didn't really know what went on for their goal - but I doubt anyone at our end could tell.

Gallgher, 7 - Couple of decent free kicks, some classey touches, but should have scored with a first half free header at the back post. He went for a safe middle of the net, which allowed Gerkin to make a fine save (shouldn't take away from that) but there was a good corner of the net free for the ball that would have given him no chance

Wellens & King, 7 - Industrius if a lot of the time un-noticed work. Lost a bit of the midfield battle in the second half

Oakley, 6 - He must have been poor given that he came off? Had our best chance to score in the second half but toe-poked it onto the post.

Lloyd, 8 - He would have got a 7 or maybe even a 6 had it not been for his goal. He gets into good positions, but you never know what he was going to do with it. Suprised he didn't go off earlier.

Waghorn, 7 - A bit issolated, a bit small to play on his own (it was more like a 4-5-1 tonight than a 4-3-3) Had one good chance in the second half that he proberly would have wanted to do better with (or maybe that was King, or maybe there was two, hmmmm, must remember more!)

Subs

Adams & Yann, 6 - Didn't see much from either, although Yann put in a couple of nice tackles! Adams had a chance to deliver a three point snatching corner at the death, fluffed it, but even then City didn't clear there lines.

Danny, 5 - Didn't looked bother for the few minutes he came on. A guy with decent height, who opted to stay wide on a couple of late dead ball situations - get in the bloody box you big fool!

Fans, 10 all the way - I guess 1000+ foxes were there - great support, good banter with the City fans across the way. A big mention to the two lovely ladies sat next to me who I enjoyed listening to, and joined in with them on a couple of occasions. They were a pleasure to sit next too.

Referee, 8 - Bit fussey at times, but hardly noticable. We did have an average penalty shout, but that would have to have been the linesmans call really (player back to referee, struck knee and arm, seen em given).

Overall, 1-1 was I expect a fair result. Bristol had some decent second half chances, it just didn't seem that way as they fluffed them all, where as we 'missed' ours if that makes sense. The start to the second half was poor and let them gain confidence. Had we got the first goal, I think it would have been a different story. I blame Maddog for the draw - he bet on Leicester winning!

Begining to get the hang of this, so for what it is worth.

Weale 6.5 The usual, reasonably solid performance with few difficult saves to make. Still fails to command his box though, which is, along with his poor distribution, the worst part of his game.

Morrison 8 So solid Bristol quickly shifted most of their effort to the other flank. Hell of a fullback for a center half!

Hobbs 7.5 Better than of late, even to the extent of coming out of defence with the ball at his feet! At times he still looks like he has not the faintest idea of what Brown is going to do.

Brown 7 Just about good enough, very concerned every time the ball was played in on the floor but fortunately Bristol kept their pacy players in wide positions so he was not really tested. Offered little help to Berner who was under a lot of pressure.

Berner 7 Did not look 100% to me, was severely tested by 3 Bristol wingers (at various times) and although booked early got through the rest of the game on guts and determination.

King 7.5 Did all the usual bits and pieces well, but his defensive duties meant he was unable to contribute much going forward. When he did he looked dangerous but really should have done better with that shot in the second half.

Wellens 7.5 Like King he was given a largely defensive role, wasteful really. Otherwise the usual hustle and bustle and the usual mix of good and misplaced passes.

Oakley 7 Pushed so far forward that he was often the closest to Waghorn, should have scored but didn't, how often have we said this? Splitting the midfield did not work, it rarely does. Oakley got little support from his fellow midfielders who were mostly to deep and Oakly himself was often too far from them to support defensively.

Gallagher 7.5 Worked back and did his defensive duties well, which left him far to deep to be to be effective on the counter. Our biggest threat to their goal but still nothing like sharp enough or composed enough when chances fall to him close in.

Waghorn 7.5 Boundless energy and enthusiasm but still does not really look like a regular goalscorer. Hopefully his will change.

Dyer 7 Typical Dyer performance in his midfield role, he is so much better deployed well forward. When collecting the ball 40 yards out the fullback, Orr, has ample time to deal with Dyer which is not the case when the ball is played to him in and around the box. The goal was not the cleanest strike but it did go in, Gallagher, Oakley et al, take note.

Kermorgant 7 Played well enough but really needs to sort out his role. Came on to replace Waghorn but played way too deep, natural inclination or instruction, I'm not sure.

Adams 6.5 Looked buzzy and confident without actually achieving very much.

N'Guessan n/a Rather pissed off to be given so little time and (apparently) told to play wide when we so clearly needed a spearhead.

Pearson 4 Setup was far too cautious from the start and the subs seemed to made without any sort of a plan in place.

How on Earth have you come to that conclusion? His kicking is excellent & he doesn't always look to go long, often finding full backs/centre halves with throws when in space. He is currently having to aim for Gallagher on the touchline with all of his kicks (until Yann enters the fray) which is tough as it makes any kind of slight misjudgment lead to a throw in/landing on their centre halves head, along with the fact that Gallagher isn't superb in the air, it sometimes does not go our way.

Anyway:

Weale - 7

Morrison - 7

Hobbs - 8

Brown - 8 - both Brown and Hobbs had a handful to deal with in Iwelumo & did very well throughout.

Berner - 7

Wellens - 8 - best game for a while, read & intercepted things well.

King - 7

Gallagher - 7

Oakley - 5 - poor touch and passing throughout. Nearly scored though.

Dyer - 8

Waghorn - 6 - offside as much as DJ.

Subs:

Kermogant - 7

Adams - 6

N'Guessan - NA

Asked and answered...

To many long ball clearances, Whether it's to Gallagher or N'Guessan or Howard (or whoever) makes little difference, it mostly ends up with the opposition one way or another, no real excuse as he often has time or the ball in hand.

Throw it out more often, it's effective, you said so yourself!

Therefore the distribution is not his fault, he is performing the role as requested, simply the tactical side and personnel leading to us not winning as many first and second balls as we'd like.

His kicking is very accurate and has been throughout the season.

Throwing it wide more certainly works better no McGivern & Neilson are not about.

Weale 6 - Nothing much to do

Morrsion 7 - Got forward well and defended well

Hobbs 7 - Defended well against Iwelumo

Brown 7 - As above

Berner 8 - Dealt with Haynes and Sproule well, got forward very well, crossed for Waghorn who didn't gamble and should have scored.

Gallagher 6 - Was never going to be as good as saturday, some classy touches and godd delivery.

King 6 - Did his job well

Wellens 8 - Got stuck in really well and some nice passes too.

Oakley 8 - Man of the match for me, very unlucky to have been taken off. He has had some very poor performances lately but has played very well since playing in the role just behind the sriker. Very unlucky to hit the post as well.

Dyer 7 - Got into positions but rarely had the end product, only the goal and the pull back for King I can remeber. Would have been 6 if he didn't score.

Waghorn 7 - Again played well, linked with midfield very well and used his strength again.

Kermogant 6 - Won everything in the air again

Adams 5 - Hardly noticed him

N'Gussean N/A

Pearson 8 - Good formation, got them playing really good football along the floor and kept Dyer on when I would have taken him off

Referee 8 - Hardly noticed him, which means he got neraly everthing right. Except he missed a lunge on Dyer.

Atmosphere/Fans 10 - Brilliant, both sets of fans never stopped singing.

I don't think he turned down many of any chances to go short yesterday. You have to have the option given to you, and if a side is set up already, a long punt tends to be the best option. Most of his clearences were from free kicks outside of the box weren't they?

Weale was, and still is, part of Pearson's tedious long ball tactics, there were times, second half on Saturday, when the ball was being hoofed forward an was coming straight back at us.

Clearly this was not all down to Weale, but in my opinion, he still goes too long, too often and with our new formation and new style of play there really is no excuse given that he usually has plenty of time to play the ball.

Against a side "set up already" a long punt may be the easiest but is rarely the best option. Just my opinion, not trying to start a fight!....
