Aeropars Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 I quote form the mercury But assistant manager Chris Powell is calling on the squad to make sure that they finish the job. Have i missed something??
Aeropars Posted 17 March 2010 Author Posted 17 March 2010 I've googled it but be buggered if i can find anything out!
Cobbo Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 I imagine it's just poor journalism (incredibly poor from the Mercury's point of view (if indeed Powell is not AM)).
Cobbo Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 The OS states: "City first team player/coach Chris Powell" Which I would go by..
Shrenchel Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Some goon at the press association dropped a bollocked no doubt. All these other planks do is Ctrl+V.
Matt Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 The OS states: "City first team player/coach Chris Powell" Which I would go by.. Not sure which is worse though, The OS or the local media.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 They'll have messed it up as it was Powell who spoke to the media after the match, not Shakespeare who's our assistant. Poor journalism, not a promotion for Powell.
Simi Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Not sure which is worse though, The OS or the local media. The OS got this one right though, no?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 The Mercury are shite at just taking the time to find something out properly.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 The OS got this one right though, no? Yes. Though it's right about the lazy journalists. I should know, having been one. (a journalist - not a lazy one.)
hairy Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 He said in a pre match chat on Saturday he had been given a managerial opportunity by NP. But I recall it was from the end of the season.
Matt Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 The OS got this one right though, no? I'm not sure maybe the OS hasn't informed us/updated the site and he now is assistant manager? But yes, you are probably right and on this occasion the OS is correct.
glennthefox Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Seriously, god only knows how some of these idiots get jobs as journalists. Most of them can't check a simple fact, and they can't spell either (his name is at the bottom of the team sheet mate, its not hard). What really riles me though, is when your local paper can't even get it right. I was somewhat suprised when I picked up the Mercury after the Cardiff match, flipped to a page with a picture of Waghorn and Oakley, looked at the caption, and read something along the lines of 'Martyn Waghorn celebrates his goal with Matty Fryatt'.....

I was somewhat suprised when I picked up the Mercury after the Cardiff match, flipped to a page with a picture of Waghorn and Oakley, looked at the caption, and proceeded to read something along the lines of 'Martyn Waghorn celebrates his goal with Matty Fryatt'..... Yea I spotted that too, ridiculous really, happened plenty of times before this season too. This latest gaffe is made worse by the fact that yesterday the mercury ran with a story quoting "assistant boss Craig Shakespeare".
lcfcadam Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 This latest gaffe is made worse by the fact that yesterday the mercury ran with a story quoting "assistant boss Craig Shakespeare". I thought Craig Shakespeare was the assistant boss?
Cobbo Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 I thought Craig Shakespeare was the assistant boss? He is, his point is that they called Shakespeare assistant manager one day & then Powell the next..
