The Doctor Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 Ryan Taylor's challenge on Waggy is one that comes to mind there. that was just a waist high version of howard's challenge yet there wasn't even a free kick for that one. And i've seen challenges much better than howards punished in a similar fashion (not involving city - just general MOTD/ the championship/TFLS footage)

Arkie Bennett Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 Doesn't mean we'd have got it. Seen a lot worse go unpunished this season Doesn't mean Howard's foul shouldn't have got it. Two wrongs and all that. We'd have been outraged if that had been a foul on one of our players and it wasn't red carded.
leftsideoverhere Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 God, there's a lot of moralists on here. Howard saw Morrison get skinned by a brilliant sliding challenge at the other end earlier in the game which nearly led to a Watford goal. He wanted to show he could do the same, but lacked the skill to pull it off. The result was a clumsy, rash, even stupid challenge, but it wasn't malicious and didn't, in my opinion, deserve a red card. But that's beside the point. Of course he should have been applauded off the field. He's our player. It's called loyalty. Why should we help Watford out by getting on the back of one of our own team? Same question to the knuckleheads who gave Kermo some stick during the game. Who does it help, and who does it undermine if you can't keep your hostility to yourself?
unreachable Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 Of course he should have been applauded off the field. He's our player. It's called loyalty. Why should we help Watford out by getting on the back of one of our own team? I'm in the non-applauding camp - I was too furious with him for the rash unneccessary challenge to move a muscle. It spoilt half time as well. It's not the first time this season that he was slid in two footed and got booked. I preferred silent disapproval as did most of the supporters around me. I remember Gerry Taggart being sent off at Crystal Palace years ago for elbowing their player in the head. I couldn't understand why most of the away fans applauded him off. I would rather applaud a positive achievement.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 Stupid but still love him. Them goals; v Leeds and at The Den

Spot on there Leftside, 100% agree with you. I bet there is no-one more annoyed with the sending off than Steve himself. He's not a dirty type of player & imo he is more often the victim of fouls than the persecutor, & yet often gets booked for fouls that he hasn't committed. The shame of his sending off is that he was possibly the M.O.M. in the 1st half of the game, & he was enjoying his best form since the end of last season. Now, even if he is in the squad for the 2nd leg of the play-off, it's unlikely that he can recover that form after missing 3 games.

I don't think he should be applauded off the field for getting a red card. Do you think he wants a standing ovation for seeing red? Loyalty isn't about encoraging players to be shit! Did Pearson applaud him off?
BoneDog Posted 22 April 2010 Posted 22 April 2010 Howard was totally stupid on this occasion. There was absolutely no need to do what he did. Even if he won the ball what would he of been able to do with it when he was on the deck? Piss all is the answer. How he made the decision to dive in like that in that situation I'll never understand. He got himself a 3 match ban at the most important part of our season. Absolutely ridiculous and I would never clap him off for that !
ta-fc Posted 22 April 2010 Posted 22 April 2010 Totally agree passionate, probably. Stuped, definately.... If JV takes his place from now on and gets a play off winners medal.... that'll be punishment enough!
MC Prussian Posted 22 April 2010 Posted 22 April 2010 Yes, it was clumsy and unnecessary. And the red card a bit harsh. But up to that point, looking at the past few weeks, I have to say Howard has redeemed himself again. He was anonymous for a long duration of this campaign, but there's various reasons for that (maybe he needed some rest; he was lacking fitness; he's not the youngest anymore; the striker situation didn't make it easy for him; Pearson looking at Howard as a substitute impact player). But we all know what happened in the second half last Saturday: We scored two more goals with ten against eleven/twelve men on the pitch. Even though the opposition was relegation-threatened Watford, that takes some heck of character and determination. I think the team spirit has reached a new high, the players wanted to make the four-game losing streak forgotten and have now managed to pull off three wins in a row. The timing couldn't be any better - since I still believe we will make the playoffs for sure. Howards three-match absence gives Vaughan the chance to shine in the starting eleven (and it's about time he got that opportunity), him and Waghorn can team up and find out how they work together up front, Fryatt could be back soon to add another dimension (preferrably as early as the Middlesbrough home match), don't forget Gallagher, Dyer, N'Guessan, Spearing, King, Adams as well as Oakley (if sharp on matchday) and with Howard returning for the second game in the first playoff leg - we have plentiful of quality attacking/scoring options. The squad depth this season (compared to the period between 2004 and 2008) is phenomenal. I'm looking forward to May 2010.

fearless fox Posted 22 April 2010 Posted 22 April 2010 I really dont think you have to question the loyalty of fans on this forum, the truth is he let his team mates down, his manager down, and the fans, fortunately for us his team mates were nuthin short of heroes on the day come on city!!!!
Mr Happy Posted 23 April 2010 Posted 23 April 2010 Sorry if this has been mentioned already but do we know which games Howard will miss??
The Doctor Posted 23 April 2010 Posted 23 April 2010 Sorry if this has been mentioned already but do we know which games Howard will miss?? Preston (A) Middlesbrough (H) Play off semi leg 1 or if we mess it up the opening game next season
Jodranadinho Posted 23 April 2010 Posted 23 April 2010 Maybe his suspension could be a blessing in disguise. As well as Vaughan being able to win a ball in the air, hes also got the pace to get past a man. Thats if Pearson does choose Vaughan
