colbo68 Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Does anyone, like me think that Big Steve was a complete Knob to get himself sent off yesterday? A game in which we were cruising, where Steve was probably the best player of the first half, when the ball was on their touchline - why on earth did he do that? Its fooked it up for him, cos he's now gonna be banned at a time when he'd got back into the side - and its fooked it up for Nige cos he now don't have the tactic of playing long-ball to Howard. Shameful Steve, I thought you were better than that!
Tony Pine Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 he's a mutant. looked like a good challenge to me .
Guest Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Does anyone, like me think that Big Steve was a complete Knob to get himself sent off yesterday? Funnily enough, if you read the Watford post-match thread, there has already been some discussion on this very same subject.

Shameful Steve, I thought you were better than that! Yes, I agree. Don't understand why half the stadium stood up and applauded whilst singing his name He's pissed it up for the team, as we were looking great with this side, 3 wins on the bounce. And he has, as you say, ruined his chances of playing in the play offs. Although, I still feel he'll feature in the second leg if we get to the play offs, whether it be to 'hold the ball up' whilst we're winning, or to fire long balls up to if we're losing.

You're joking right ¬¬. Vaughan played 10x better than him IMO, he has pace and skill and he looks fearless!

I stood up and clapped him off. Yes it was reckless, but i'll clap any player of the pitch if they've been playing well.

Perhaps to show him and the team some support maybe?
davieG Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 He doesn't deserve support when he behaves so recklessly, I pay my entrance fee to see 11 players on the pitch doing their best to win the game, he didn't deliver and not only that put our winning position at risk as well as our play-off place. By his immature behaviour he could easily have buggered up our whole season in just a couple of seconds. Why would anyone support that?
ScouseFox Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 I stood up and clapped him off. Yes it was reckless, but i'll clap any player of the pitch if they've been playing well. Fair enough, I understand that. He was stupid though, and i don't think he deserved a standing ovation.

I know Vaughan is a better player, but whether you like it or not, and I personally don't, when we're desperate, whether to hang on or to put pressure on, Howard always comes on because he's a target.
Corky Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Whether it was a sending-off or not, he should never have given the referee the opportunity to produce the red card. It was rash and unnecessary, at a time when we had the upper hand, 2-0 up heading into half-time. It could quite easily have cost us the match, fortunately his team-mates made up the deficit and we saw it through comfortably. Didn't understand the clapping too.
Matt Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Bloody hell only a few games ago many people would have been glad he had been sent off - Cos they thought he was rubbish and added nothing to the team.
Richard Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Thought he was best player for the first 45 minutes, but a STUPID tackle means he probably won't play again this season, if Vaughan takes that performance into Preston and Middlesborough.
Guest Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Fair enough, I understand that. He was stupid though, and i don't think he deserved a standing ovation. It was hardly a standing ovation. It was a smattering of applause from some sections for a player who'd been having a great game. Besides which there's still some debate as to whether the red was deserved or not, including from NP judging by his post match comments
calum_lcfc Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Take it on the chin, he was in good form yes but its not the worse thing in the world, he now goes away 3 game ban. Vaughen gets fit plays up top with Waggy we cross the line to the play offs, first leg at home I back us against anyone then he is able to come off the bench away from home to either protect a lead or go up to to give us another dimension if we are chasing a goal. P.S I stood up cheered and clapped cause he is a City player and I have any City players back no matter what the situation, I thought it was being a fan but obviosuly I am a c**t
carterfox90 Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 it was a totally stupid/rash tackle why he did it has he said pure crazy & it may well have been his last game for the club
leicesterseddon Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 I stood up and clapped him off. Yes it was reckless, but i'll clap any player of the pitch if they've been playing well. He was having one of his better games, but it was hardly a brilliant performance. The challenge was so thoughless too - regardless of how he played, his red card put the performance of the team in jeopardy by taking us down to 10 men before half-time. It was a good job Watford were one of the worst teams we've played all season and others were able to step up to the plate. Certainly not worthy of an ovation in my opinion.
Legend_in_blue Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Some fans on here are so fickle. Show big Steve some respect people. The challenge wasn't particularly bad, and certainly did not warrant a red card, and far worse have been witnessed on the field of play which have got away with yellows or nothing at all. The referee was influenced by the Watford players, the guy involved went down like he was pole-axed, and the reaction of the opposition fans escalated the situation. 12 months ago big Steve scored a superb header in the home game against "the champions of europe" Leeds, and I'll never forget that moment. It would be a real shame if the lasting impression he makes here is one in which fans find it hard to forgive a challenge which wasn't even particularly bad. I think the reaction of people on here is harsh, players make rash challenges, it's part of the game. I can't remember Wellens getting this amount of stick when he was sent off earlier on this season. Just because we only have two games to go, and not over a quarter of the season left, does not make this any worse than that. So why the negativity? Chill out people we're in the play-offs.

What he's done previously is of no concern, whether it was a red or a yellow is irrelevant, the severity of the tackle was totally unnecessary, reckless, irresponsible and stupid. If one of the younger players had done it they'd be slagged off so why should someone as experienced as Howard get away with being clapped and lauded. As for Wellens he got similar treatment on here and his wasn't half as stupid as this tackle. - http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=64603&st=0&p=1564993&hl=Wellens&fromsearch=1entry1564993
davieG Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 He's like the Baby Balloon There was a Daddy Balloon a Mummy balloon and a baby balloon. One night they were getting ready for bed and Baby balloon wanted to sleep in his mummy and daddy's bed. Daddy Balloon said " You are too old to sleep in our bed. It is time you started sleeping in your own bed. So off you go" Sadly baby balloon trooped of to his own bed. Later that night he crept into his parents room and tried to climb in with them. But there was not enough room. So very carefully he reached down and let a little air out of his Dad. He tried to get in but there was still not enough room. So he reached down and let a little air out of his Mum. He tried again to climb in, but there still was not quite enough room. So he reached down and let out a little of his own air. He climbed back into the bed and fitted in perfectly between his parents. He was soon asleep. In the morning when Daddy balloon woke up he was very very cross. He turned to baby balloon and said. " I told you that you are too old now to sleep in our bed and you have disobeyed me. You have let me down, your mother down and worst of all you have let yourself down."
ScouseFox Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Come on how can you say that is not a red card? You can debate whether it's a yellow or a red, but that image shows how unnecessary it is. Everyone around him is simply strolling, waiting for the ball to go out and the referee to blow for half time.
