Lillehamring Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 based on watching the game on tv.... the players that stood out for me were: wellens - easily our best player, front to back he worked tirelessly and his shot was pretty much the closest we came to scoring solano and berner - can't understand how people are criticising solano's passing, one poor pass out of 2 dozen in the first half, him and bruno were paramount to us keeping the game moving by keeping possession and playing intelligent passing. bruno even took on his man around the box i can understand why kingy has the reputation as the invisible man, yet a few replays revealed that at times he was our most advanced player, whilst other times he was clearing balls out of the six yard box. have to feel sorry for the back four and weale, they didn't deserve to concede today, this was a classic 0-0 in every way but the free kick. i thought the ref had a great game apart from missing the two handballs up until the last 15 minutes when cardiff started the freefall antics.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 i thought the ref had a great game apart from missing the two handballs up until the last 15 minutes when cardiff started the freefall antics. Would I be correct in saying the first, the player had his back to the referee so it was practically impossible to give. The second, is one you've seen given but it seemed on my first and only look that it hit his arm as the ball went over his head, rather than a dilbrate play of the ball with his arm?
Lisburn Fox Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Hobbs - 9 Wellans - 7.5 Everyone else 5 or 6 Overall not really good enough to win a game of this magnitude. Will make up for it on Wednesday.
Bettsj2 Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Weale- 7 (Bet he's thinking he should have had a second man in the wall now! Made a great save second half, even if Rilley had blown for a freekick, he wasn't to know that) Solano- 7 (Showed composure on the ball and made some nice passes - a couple didn't come off) Hobbs- 9 (Looked very assured at the back, except for his rash challenge that brought the booking. The prem will be calling for him very soon, with or without us) Bruce- 7 (Did ok, but Boothroyd knew he wanted to battle with Bruce in the air and managed to win flicks and knock downs to start Cardiff attacks) Berner- 8 (Good at the back, good going forward - not much more you could ask for reallyl) Spearing- 7 King- 7 Wellens- 7 (7's all around - worked hard, played nice triangles at times, but without really going anywhere. Maybe the 3 are just a bit too alike each other though?) Gallagher- 7.5 (Corners were good, last one apart, they always looked dangerous. Looked brighter on the left in the second half) Waghorn- 7 (Battled, but Cardiff marshalled him well. Needed more support around him - purhapse this should have been one of the midfield 3) Dyer- 6 (Appeared to make some good runs 1st half, but that was on the far side from me. Blew hot and more commonly cold as usual) Fryatt- 6 (He got in positions - good. Taking them - not so good. It was also apparent that we didn't want to go in where he would get hurt!) Kermo- 6 (Gave away a silly freekick - and we paid the ultimate price) N'Guessan- 7 (Looked a handful - whether that would have been the case if he'd started we will never know. With Waggy and Gally, I'd prefer him to Dyer as he at least can give us an 'out' ball to hit up to) Weale - 7 (No chance with the free kick. Could have had 5 in the wall and it would have gone in) Solano - 6 (Came forward well but wasted a lot of passes) Bruce - 8 (Superb partner for Hobbs) Hobbs - 10 (Fingers crossed he'll be our captain for many years to come) Berner - 6 (Doesn't look completely fit) Gallagher - 5 (Didn't get involved enough) King - 4 (As above. Needs to impose himself in this sort of game and not do 'a lot of unoticed work') Wellens - 7.5 (Superb but he needs to learn to shoot!!) Spearing - 7 (Worked hard but didnt really happen for him today) Dyer - 6 (Not the impact we needed from him. Another who didnt look completely fit) Waghorn - 6 (Held it up ok but lacked support) Fryatt - 7 (Made a difference but unfortunately when it counted he came up wanting) Kermorgant - 7.5 (Made a difference that would have been welcome earlier) N'Guessen - 7 (Best impact sub we have but didnt use him enough)
STUHILL Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 Weale - 6.5 Solid but left a big gap for the goal, although was a cracking shot. Solano - 6.5 Pretty solid. I wanted Morrison and probably still would as he can score goals Hobbs - 9.0 Excellent game from a top top player! This boy is going far, just hope it's with us. Bruce - 7.5 A good game and will give Pearson a headache over replacing him for Brown. Berner - 7.0 Another compentent game and coped well considering Dyer gave him very little support Spearing - 7.0 I thought he did well but it was a losing battle in midfield. Wellens - 7.0 Tried things which sometimes worked. Looked up for the game and fearless King - 6.0 I thought he was very absent today until the final minute. Needed to get more involved Dyer - 6.5 He had a mixed game. Didn't impose himself like he could have and use the width and his pace Waghorn - 6.5 Huffed and puffed but with the lack of support, he was pretty ineffective. Gallagher - 6.0 Needs to be more physical but I thought he was at least constantly involved Subs Fryatt - 6.0 I think Fryatt has always been a confidence player and I dont think he is quite ready yet Kermo - 6.0 Needed to come on early and perhaps partner Waghorn as a front two. Gave away some needless fouls N'Guessen - 6.5 Came on and looked dangerous, should have been given more time and a straight swap for Dyer
The Doctor Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Would I be correct in saying the first, the player had his back to the referee so it was practically impossible to give. The second, is one you've seen given but it seemed on my first and only look that it hit his arm as the ball went over his head, rather than a dilbrate play of the ball with his arm? and so his arm shouldn't have been so far outstretched up in the air, If you stick your arm out like that and it hits it then it should be a penalty/free kick regardless of intent.
ozleicester Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Weale -5 Good all round game, but that goal was very very poor keeping Solano - 5.... held them well enough, but didnt do anything with the ball. Berner - 6....... Solid, could have pushed forward more to help build Bruce - 7 ........Best game ive seen him play Hobbs - 8 ....... Jack was again a rock. Wellens - 7..... To me, he came and went throughout the game, didnt quite get a hold of the game Spearing - 5 .... Did he play?. King - 6............like wellens, didnt really seem to keep up with the game but a couple of good runs Dyer - 6.... See King Gallagher - 6 ... i love to see Gally on the ball, but just disapeared in this game. Waghorn - 6..... Worked hard in difficult situations.. we just should not have been pumping long all day. Fryatt - 7..... Rusty but... he created chances as soon as he hit the pitch.. NGuessan - 7..... challenged well and the game changed when he came on. Kermorgant -N/A Pearson - 5 ..... 4, 5, 1 should never be played at home in a playoff game, he was slow with subs again. Pretty disapointing all round, but the good news is... we are so much better than that and so we will win 2-1 in Cardiff. *All as seen on TV (obviously)
okie fox Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Weale -7- Sound Solano -8- Good passing, defensively sound Hobbs -9- MOTM Bruce -7- Sound Berner -8- Smart game, attacked whenever he could Gallagher -5- Ineffective, not a winger Wellens -9- Superb. Always available, always involved. Almost everything went through him. King -6- Anonymous Spearing -8- Worked very hard, especially in first half Dyer -6- One good run and cross early on, not much else Waghorn -5- Frustrating day, pushed aside all too easily SUBS Fryatt -7- Lively, we improved after he came on Kermogant -6- Little impact N'Guessan -8- made the last 10 minutes uncomfortable for Cardiff by running at their defence
dpjfox Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Weale 6 (should have had a wall / done better with goal, not troubled too much im sure he will star in Cardiff Solano 6 (has a reputation as a dead ball expert, why have we not seen evidence? id replace him with Morrison as he might head in a corner Hobbs 9 Immense (please stay) Bruce 8 i was very impressed, a must buy Berner 7 solid Spearing 6 worked hard didnt create anything Wellens 8 our best midfielder, they seemed to try and get him rattled King 6 very quiet, im hoping for better on his "home soil" Dyer 6 must do/can do better Gllagher 6 bit better second half Waghorn 7 needed help Fryatt 6 imo should have played more minutes in previous games and then he would have stuck that chance away, im not going to slag him because he will score the winning penalty! Danny 6 6 poweful and direct , they might be scared of him Yann 6 6 quiet
h1210 Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Weale 7 - Dealt with what he had to Solano 6.5 - Ok in defence, didn't make the most of possession Hobbs 9 - MOTM, dealt well with both Chopra and Bothroyd Bruce 7.5 - Has slipped in very easily, unfortunately from the Kisnorbo school of distribution too often Berner 8 - Solid Gallagher 6 - Couldn't find his way into the game Wellens 4 - I'm really confused by the positive reaction towards him on here, wasted possession and took too long on the ball time and again King 6 - Far from his best Spearing 7 - Hardworking if little else Dyer 6 - As much as I like him, he really wasn't strong enough today Waghorn 5 - Was let down by his service today Fryatt 6 - As much as can be expected after that long out Kermogant 6 - Won a bit in the air, shame he wasn't on earlier N'Guessan 7 - looked like he would have been a better option than Dyer from the start
RowlattsFox Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Weale -7- Couple of decent saves but think he could have done better with goal in my opinion. Solano -6- Passing not great. Bruce -7- Did well, hoofed a bit but never had too much options. Hobbs -8- Got caught a couple of times but generally excellent yet again. Berner -7- Solid. Spearing -6- Worked hard but quality wasn't there. Wellens -7- MOst likely to create. King -5- Poor, nowhere to be seen. Gallagher -6- Pick of the attackers. Waghorn -5- Tried but was marked out the game. Dyer -5- Stay out wide for ****s sake. Fryatt -6- Got more change out Cardiff defence than Waggy did but should've scored. Kermogant -6.5- Silly foul but we looked better going forward when he was on. N'Guessan -6.5- Couple of decent runs. Did what Dyer should've done, kept the width.
C-man Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Weale - 6 Solano - 6 Hobbs - 9 Bruce - 8 Berner - 5 King - 5 Wellens - 8 Spearing - 8 Gallagher - 5 Waghorn - 5 Lloyd - 5

The second, is one you've seen given but it seemed on my first and only look that it hit his arm as the ball went over his head, rather than a dilbrate play of the ball with his arm? i don't recollect where the ref was - but it was very very deliberate, that the ref and linesman both missed it is hard to believe, but the only reason i can think for it not being given...
the buckwheat Posted 11 May 2010 Posted 11 May 2010 Weale 6.5 Solano 5 Hobbs 7 Bruce 6.5 Berner 7 Gallagher 6 King 4.5 Wellens 6.5 Spearing 7 Dyer 4 Waghorn 5.5 Subs : Fryatt 4.5 Kermorgant 6.5 N'Guessan 6
