Simi Posted 11 May 2010 Posted 11 May 2010 End of April.. "I would hope he stays," Gold said. "He has been through hell and back. It has been a very difficult season for him. He has had new owners, owners before who were not participating. Now he knows he is part of West Ham, whereas before he was isolated. So I hope that this moment of success we are enjoying will continue. 11th May Sacked!
MikeyT Posted 11 May 2010 Posted 11 May 2010 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11675_6146890,00.html West Ham United have, as expected, parted company with manager Gianfranco Zola. More to follow...
dandannieldanok Posted 11 May 2010 Posted 11 May 2010 I doubt Zola will be overly fussed tbh. Obviously it's a sacking on his CV and he built up a good rapport with the players, but it was obvious he was always under pressure from the arsehole owners. With this sacking that pressure is now off his shoulders and he can now restart his coaching/managerial career, hopefully at a club under more considerate ownership.
AyewJoking Posted 11 May 2010 Posted 11 May 2010 I guess they want to pick their own man. To be honest West Ham were helped by the fact there were a few piss poor teams this season and will probably have been in a similar position this time next season so Im not surprised by his sacking. Nigel Pearson for West Ham????
Big Ol' Bob Posted 11 May 2010 Posted 11 May 2010 I love how everyone is looking at Gold and Sullivan as evil for sacking Zola. Fact is he is completely out of his depth in the premiership, and has shown that since day one there. Good decision for the owners to keep things the same and let him keep West Ham up, but they know what they are doing and they have made the right decision at the right time to keep the club they love in the Prem. Zola is a terrific coach, and role model. But a fooking awful manager.

The manager and players are already under pressure, it can't help when the owners publicly declare the team is dreadful and constantly stick their oar in down at the training ground, it's counter-productive. Also, as Ched pointed out, David Gold said not long ago that Zola would hopefully stay, intimating that he'd only depart under his own steam. No matter how poor you perceive the job Zola has done, you cannot deny the owners have acted appallingly.
purpleronnie Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 I feel for zola but understand the decision. Zola sounds like the nicest bloke.
Ozwin Posted 12 May 2010 Posted 12 May 2010 This just shows how nice a man he is, he took a load of tea/coffee out to the media around his house because they were there for so long. I think he's a fantastically nice man.
