dandannieldanok Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Probably already been mentioned but we had 18 shots on target and 9 off target. Even though it was League 2 opposition, having 27 shots at goal, 66% of them hitting the target, is very very encouraging.

davieG Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms_3SCmQBtk No sound, shitty software crashed and it's taken me 3 hours just to get it to record the video.
leftsideoverhere Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 They were probably all wearing Man U or Chelsea coats, or summat daft like that. If they were all in a group and wearing dark tracksuits, then they were youth football club from Mayo in Ireland. Saw them in the club shop before the game. So (a) I doubt many of them were in Chelsea outfits, and (b) they won't be there on Saturday, so everyone can calm down. Dunno quite why they'd travel all the way to watch Leicester play Macclesfield when there weren't many prepared to travel half a mile to watch it, but it takes all sorts I guess.

Better still, 27 attempts on goal is more than we managed in any match last season.
leftsideoverhere Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 I think thats right Bert, hopefully when the players are a bit fitter they'll track back more quickly. Is it the case that we didn't really play zonal marking last season, I'm not buying in to the idea it was all man to man!? Also, I think we'll miss elements of the 'departed bald prejudice mad-mans' game - he wasn't quick but he was steady, won headers and his distribution wasn't bad (even though he either brought a runner down or watched him go by......) hopefully this back line will settle in their positions once they actually own them - Hobbs should play where he did last year - round pegs round holes please. I just can't believe Neilsen...... the lads came back from Palace and said he was nigh on motm........ but two consecutive above competent performances - good for Robbie. Agree with you, Nick, almost completely, but even I couldn't claim Brown's distribution wasn't bad. He was a very one-dimensional player, but that one dimension was stopping teams attacking in the direct route-one style and it's a crucial dimension in this league. The first goal on Saturday had me thinking, "no way would we have conceded like that if Brown had been playing", and it was evident again last night that Hobbs, for all his talents, is a lot less comfortable dealing with a direct ball in the air than Brown was. Still, he can head a ball, and despite the evidence of last night he can pass one too, so I'm confident that he'll get there. Moreno looked very assured as a centre back, but it's evident that he's more comfortable with the ball on the ground, and was even better after he switched to defensive mid. That all boils down to the pretty obvious fact that as someone mentioned the other day we're really lacking a centre-back in the Steve Walsh blood and guts mould, not only defensively but also because such a player would contribute at the other end too. Kennedy demonstrated last night that he'd make a significant improvement in our corner taking but there was still no-one (other than one impressive effort from Dany NG) to meet one with a thumping header.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Morecambe away in the next round please! A ground that I've never been to before. They've moved to a brand new ground this season apparently. Seaside town, perfect away day at this time of the year when its still relatively warm. 1,389 capacity terrace for away supporters Sounds perfect to me
leftsideoverhere Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 Burton Albion away, please. Partly cos it would be an interesting ground to go to, and partly cos it would mean Cardiff had been dumped out in the first round...
The Doctor Posted 11 August 2010 Posted 11 August 2010 anyone know what was going on between Neilson and Campbell late on in the second half? Campbell just started shouting at neilson for something. Brilliant match to watch but defensively terrible. Kennedy was like a rabbit in headlights, Hobbs seemed completely lost and N'guessan was so very erratic.

Campbell wanted the ball played early to his feet, didn't get it and got annoyed with Neilson.
