RoyFox Posted 28 August 2010 Posted 28 August 2010 I cannot understand why Oakley is starting and he is Captain. With our "new style" of football it's imperative that we can break forward quickly, Oakley ALLOWS the opposition to get back into position, hence we seem devoid of ideas (except give it to Dyer). This is very predictable and reminds me of when we got relegated to League 1, Oakley is not fit enough to start - slow, predictable passing he is not good enough for the championship. Thoughts?

Couldn't agree more with you, there is so much more wrong with the team at the moment than just Oakley, starting with the difference of last years great defence, Personally i thought Oakley hada solid game today, yes he's not the flashy quick player he used to be but that what happens when you get to 33! He has adapted his game to a more defensive role and especially in the first half made some cracking challenges. Very harsh to single out Oakley.

I'm not saying he is the scapegoat, but it's deeply worrying that he's top of the pecking order above both King and Wellens - that's poor judgement from Sousa

shiv Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 Not Oakley's biggest fan but he has been decent this season (apart from today of course). I thought Wellens played better when Oakley was on the pitch as it allowed him to get forward more. Don't think he should be captain though, don't really see him as a "leader".

DanTheFox07 Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 our defence has no confidence and hasn`t been the same for 2 games in a row, how is oakley to blame for this, Wellens isn`t exactly perfect and u can blame him for many a stray pass and guilty of trying to play a hollywood ball a lot! so could u not argue that oakley and king would be the preffered partnership? anyway weve got Abe coming in so would imagine he will play, so someone will get dropped!
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 blaming oakley is harsh as i feel he has been one of our most consistant players this season however has failed to make an impact in any of the games he has playedin, i agree he slows the game down and allows the opposition to get back 100%, oakley seems to me to be playing in a more defensive roll allowing wellens to push forward which is stupid ! wellens should be the man sitting and allowing king to push on and score goals like he did all last season, moreno another player who can sit in the more defensive midfeild roll, looked very comfortable there against leeds and didnt have a bad game, this will allow morrison another player who played well at leeds and was undeservably dropped, to partner hobbs at center back, they know each other well and first and for most can communicate with each other, this will give us a more taller,stronger back line, however sousa is starting to leave out our good young british talent in morrison,king and fryatt which is starting to piss me offf !

Has it been an away game you could see an argument, but at home against what will be a mid-table side you only need one holding player (Wellens) then King alongside to drive the game forward. Simple mistake by Sousa for me.

How can anyone say Oakley is even ok, he's a joke of a player, absolutly shocking. For the life of me how can anyone defend him, he;s garbage. As a captain of a football team ever been subbed more than this clown ? the answer to that is no, by the way. Why does he even get in the squad, when he contributes sweet FA to the team. Defending the undefendable, the day this lazy useless time waster leaves this club will be a good day. Please open your eyes and watch him go through the motions, he just pretends to be a footballer.

SPF07 Posted 29 August 2010 Posted 29 August 2010 Oakley is terrible! he add's nothing to the team. Why on earth Sousa appears to favour him over Wellens and especially King is beyond me.
