I am going tomorrow with a few mates for a mates birthday. I regularly go to London but not usually on the razzle.

Anyone have any idea's where the best places are to go? Staying in Covent Garden. I think there are a few Londoners on this forum that can help.

p.s Has anyone been to Vertigo 42? Thinking of giving it a try!

Definitely go to the Match Bar near Oxford Circus. (http://www.matchbar.com/match_bar_westend.php)

Unbelievable cocktails and even superb food if you felt peckish. It's gotta be one of the coolest bars in the world and one of my favourite London hang-outs.

There's about a million bars like Match bar around Oxford Circus. All pretty generic in my opinion.

Not sure what sort of bars you and your mates will be up for but I reckon Upper Street in Angel will be about right for you. I know Ric Flair is a fan of those parts as well. Loads of bars and restaurants going from Angel tube all the way up to Highbury and Islington. Come out of Angel tube, cross the road, turn right and walk up the left hand fork heading North East (this is Upper Street).

Personally I like Hackney - Old Street, Shoreditch, Brick Lane, Dalston, London Fields, Bethnal Green, etc but you probably won't fancy going that far East if your staying in Covent Garden.

Lastly, if you want swanky, head West.

You could try the Absolute Icebar just off Regent Street if you're after something a bit different pre-clubbing, perhaps? :dunno: I haven't checked the site but I've a feeling when I went booking was advisable. We got in without, but that was midweek. Just a thought...

thanks for all the informative responses

I will have a look at the suggestions. A friend suggested Lock 17 in Camden and generally the Camden area. ight be worth a punt

That looks brilliant! - what were the prices like? Obviously you will be expected to pay a fiver upwards for a drink in London...

Lots similar but the cocktails I've had in Match have been off the scale compared to the rest. Also the atmosphere just seems pretty uniquely chilled out and casual...

Just my two cents anyway (all those bars are on a different planet to anything I've found in Leicester at least).

Anyway if you really wanna do something interesting head down to Brixton. This place (The Windmill) is pretty cool. It even has its own dog on the roof (which I have seen with my own eyes):

Is Match Bar similar to places like Bar On&On etc?

Camden will be absolutely heaving.

I would also suggest Upper Street, either start at Highbury and Islington or Angel, plenty of bars, generally young crowd. Then onto a club/after hours place somewhere else if you fancy it.

Can't really remember, tbh. (I was a bit pissed already by that point!) :innocent: I think we had to pay to get in and you can then be in there for about 45 mins (I was getting cold by then, though, so, for me, it was long enough). I think it was about £6 a shot but they had some offers on for doubles, etc.

It was great, though. And something a bit different.

I'm with James on this one, some decent places out East but personally I never really rated Coventry Garden area (having spent about 3 years working there). I'd either head more central, Oxford/Regent st areas, no particular faves unless your looking for old school pubs, which I'd imagine probably not :D
