Signed too many players

I think the last thing we needed was a splurge of new players, regardless of nationality, but especially unproven oversees players.

We got so close last season with a small but settled squad and I can only see this squad rotation and wave of signings (How many goddamn defenders?) as being disruptive and unnecesary. We need a fixed 11 week in week out apart from injury and suspension. Thats why we did so well last season under Pearson. Look what happened when Allen signed a large influx.

However, I can't see any positive in sacking Sousa, so keep the faith; but it's worrying times at the moment.

I hardly see how they are unproven, & I believe that PS has added depth & not lost a key player as yet... I don't agree with your post at all untill the last point. We have a decent sized squad, last season we were reliant on a few free transfers & youth players at severe times, hopefully we now have the experience to go through hard times without noticing much of a difference if one of our players becomes injured. Also we have more quality this season with the additions permantly in Waghorn & Abe from the world cup surely?

Who did we sign?

  1. Tom Kennedy - Powell retired and McGivern is a shit lefggt back so it was needed
  2. Miguel Vitor - Brown was moved on and Tunchev is still injured, again a Central defender was needed
  3. Michael Lamey - If O'Neill isn't ready, which he seemingly isn't then another right back was needed
  4. Frank Moussa - covers all of the midfield, an area we needed cover in
  5. Moreno - only real holding midfielder we had until we signed Abe
  6. Yuki Abe - holding player or winger apparently, again we were really short in midfield
  7. Martyn Waghorn - not really a new signing to last years lads is he
  8. Leon Crncic - Kermorgant going left us a little short upfront

8 players is hardly too many when you consider Spearing, McGivern, Solano, Brown & Powell are no longer part of the squad so its a net gain of 3 players

9 out, this what happens when you rely so heavily on loans you need to replace them every year

We lost to many of the key loan signings that helped us through last season, ecspecially the likes of Spearing, Vaughan and Waghorn (regardless of now) who were essential. Therefore, the squad was never going to be settled or whatever.

Also, the momentum of promotion from League 1 got the club through the championship last season, which is something Leeds, Norwich and Millwall will have this season (and look where they currently sit). I always said that if we didn't win get up last season, we never will - look at MK Dons, they came 3rd in league 1 after promotion from league 2 and have now gone backwards. Thats why, with Pearson or Sousa or whoever in charge, we wasn't ever going to mount a play off push again. The momentum is why we overachieved last season.

I think players were needed to come in, in fact we still maybe a few players short at the minute, but I don't get this 'Championship proven' statement. Dorrans and Adam were never 'Championship proven' before last season!

I don't think any of our signings were unnecessary. our cheap/free defenders who are providing cover for shitheads who either left or are just shite are creating a bit of healthy competition ( i think we just need to find our CB partnership and we will be in a good position there). midfield needed strengthening and will hopefully mean that oakley will be filtered out soon! and signing waginho was blatantly a good signing even if he was pricey.

glad to see you are keeping the faith though! :scarf:

We needed new players, the loanees were going back and others weren't required.

Whether the new players are better than previous remains to be seen.
