Guest BlueBrett Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 edit: found a better video. Got to admit I have always been rather jealous of the Scots national anthem. Shits all over our drone.
Finnegan Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Flower of Scotland is a dirge. Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau in a full stadium. Thats singing!
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Ha, the Scottish anthem makes my ears bleed. Wales have it the best out of the home nations in that respect.
The Doctor Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau in a full stadium. Thats singing! we've got flower of scotland, auld lang syne, scotland the brave and amazing grace - all better than that shit you call a national anthem.
Finnegan Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 we've got flower of scotland, auld lang syne, scotland the brave and amazing grace - all better than that shit you call a national anthem. Have you bollocks. Flower of Scotland is a dirge, it's a wee acoustic, modern folk song and not even one of the Corries' best. Our equivalent would be and that's infinitely more uprising!Auld Lang Syne is just as bad, it's the most morbidly sounding celebratory song going! Look, Wallace and Bruce might have been infinitely more successful than Llywelyn and Glyndwr, you might actually be represented on the Union Jack, have your own somewhat more advanced parliament, have actually qualified for a World Cup since 58, be world renowned thanks to Mel Gibson and Canada, have Britain's first Champions League winning team, making bloody good whiskey and have fancy national dress (although the English invented the kilt as you know it) but you're taking on the wrong country when it comes to singing! Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, Cwm Rhondda, Men of Harlech, Calon Lan... Delilah! If there's one thing we do it's sing and write songs. Find your own thing to brag about! Unbeatable. Most notable bit about your nonsense is the chavs shouting "ENGLAND" between the lines! ps: (pps: Let's at least agree God Save The Queen is the worst. )
Jackirius Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 (pps: Let's at least agree God Save The Queen is the worst. ) God save the Queen is shit, we need a new anthem.
ACF Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 God save the Queen is shit, we need a new anthem. Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned, God make thee mightier yet ! On Sov'ran brows, beloved, renowned, Once more thy crown is set. Thine equal laws, by Freedom gained, Have ruled thee well and long ; By Freedom gained, by Truth maintained, Thine Empire shall be strong. Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee? Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet, God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.
I am Rod Hull Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 And did those feet in ancient time. Walk upon Englands mountains green: And was the holy Lamb of God, On Englands pleasant pastures seen! And did the Countenance Divine, Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here, Among these dark Satanic Mills? Bring me my Bow of burning gold; Bring me my Arrows of desire: Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold! Bring me my Chariot of fire! I will not cease from Mental Fight, Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand: Till we have built Jerusalem, In Englands green & pleasant Land
FoxyPV Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Amhran na bhFainn wins hands down. Sinne Fianna Fáil, atá faoi gheall ag Éirinn, Buíon dár slua thar toinn do ráinig chughainn, Faoi mhóid bheith saor Seantír ár sinsear feasta, Ní fhágfar faoin tíorán ná faoin tráill. Anocht a théam sa bhearna baoil, Le gean ar Ghaeil, chun báis nó saoil, Le gunna scréach faoi lámhach na bpiléar, Seo libh canaig amhrán na bhFiann None of this Ireland Ireland bollox.
Finnegan Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Amhran na bhFainn is top drawer, easily second place. I don't mind Ireland's Call, though. I always find watching the Irish anthems interesting, though. In the early days of Ireland's Call the Munster lads used to belt out Amhran na bhFainn and stand there looking pissed off during Ireland's Call and visa versa the Ulster lot. O'Callaghan and O'Gara are the worst for it. These days it looks like someone's had a word because they tend to sing a bit more for the cameras! Like the Irish, though, we tend to do a lot of singing together in the rugby. Or as Max Boyce put it: "Long may we remember, beneath this hallowed sky, where we sang our Hymns and Arias and the Fields of Athenry!"

Most notable bit about your nonsense is the chavs shouting "ENGLAND" between the lines! ps: (pps: Let's at least agree God Save The Queen is the worst. ) Definitely the worst and not even for the English, it's a 'British/Regal anthem and has little to do with Britain and nothing to do with England. God Save the Queen God save our gracious Queen, Long live our noble Queen, God save the Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the Queen! O lord God arise, Scatter our enemies, And make them fall! Confound their knavish tricks, Confuse their politics, On you our hopes we fix, God save the Queen! Not in this land alone, But be God's mercies known, From shore to shore! Lord make the nations see, That men should brothers be, And form one family, The wide world ov'er From every latent foe, From the assasins blow, God save the Queen! O'er her thine arm extend, For Britain's sake defend, Our mother, prince, and friend, God save the Queen! Thy choicest gifts in store, On her be pleased to pour, Long may she reign! May she defend our laws, And ever give us cause, To sing with heart and voice, God save the Queen! I'm English and I don't relate to any of that and the tune is depressing and awful.
Webbo Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 Definitely the worst and not even for the English, it's a 'British/Regal anthem and has little to do with Britain and nothing to do with England. Not even with this now deleted verse? Lord, grant that Marshal Wade,May by thy mighty aid, Victory bring. May he sedition hush, and like a torrent rush, Rebellious Scots to crush, God save the King.
I am Rod Hull Posted 17 December 2010 Posted 17 December 2010 That reminds me of this... fookin pmsl.

(pps: Let's at least agree God Save The Queen is the worst. ) so england invaded us and took our independence & stole our invention (football) giving us a skirt in return! I should have known. and god save the queen is the worst national anthem in britain but i'm sure there's one, might be germany, which is just the theme to star wars.
FoxyPV Posted 18 December 2010 Posted 18 December 2010 In English purrrr-lease! I'm not sullying the national anthem by translating it into english. You bastards have done enough taking our language without this added insult Although I do remember being at a match in Croker and some twat in front of me singing it in english.
Finnegan Posted 18 December 2010 Posted 18 December 2010 In English purrrr-lease! Never, EVER in English! Makes me cringe whenever Amhrán na bhFiann or Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau are translated. Even people using the "English names" get my goat! so england invaded us and took our independence & stole our invention (football) giving us a skirt in return! I should have known. and god save the queen is the worst national anthem in britain but i'm sure there's one, might be germany, which is just the theme to star wars. It isn't Germany. Or any I can think of.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 December 2010 Posted 18 December 2010 Whack it on in English, I'm not fluent in gibberish.
The Doctor Posted 19 December 2010 Posted 19 December 2010 It isn't Germany. Or any I can think of. nah, can't find it. The closest one i can find is the ukraine one which (if slightly pissed) sounds sort of like the darth vader tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1oMKa-BSvU
