Edmund Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1338789/England-ranked-sixth-world-despite-woeful-year-Fabio-Capellos-men.htmlAre you sure, FIFA? England still ranked sixth in the world despite woeful year for Capello's men Despite a torrid year, England are incredibly still ranked as the sixth best team in the world by FIFA. The latest official rankings - released on Wednesday - continue to place Fabio Capello's side among the world's elite. This comes after a year in which they were dismally knocked out of the World Cup at the second-round stage. Capello's men were more recently soundly beaten by France in a friendly at Wembley last month. Only Holland, Germany, Brazil, Argentina and leaders Spain are deemed better than the Three Lions right now. Out of the rest of the home nations, Republic of Ireland lead the way in 36th spot. Northern Ireland are next up in 43rd, with Scotland in 52nd and Wales - now steered by Gary Speed - ranked as low as 112th. 1 Spain 2 Netherlands 3 Germany 4 Brazil 5 Argentina 6 England 7 Uruguay 8 Portugal 9 Egypt 10 Croatia 11 Greece 12 Norway 13 Russia 14 Italy 15 Chile 16 Ghana 17 Slovenia 18 USA 18 France 20 Slovakia 36 Republic of Ireland 43 Northern Ireland 52 Scotland 112 Wales
StanSP Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Spain top?! How? England should be top. FIFA hate England. <_<
Jackirius Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Egypt at 9th......anyone? Im assuming because they won the African Cup of Nations, but they are still not a spec on France or Italy etc... who are below them. Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway? Seriously, what has happened to Mexico, USA, Ivory Coast. Im surprised that bloody Russia and Qatar aren't 1st and 2nd to be honest.
ScouseFox Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Qatar 114th, looking forward to having them in the world cup...
Fox You Forest Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 Just me then that isn't surprised by France and Italy? France have only recently started to undo all the poor work done by Domenech, they were absolute rubbish for the best part of a year (possibly longer) and Italy have been on the decline for some time.
Brainy Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 You could argue though that only Uruguay and maybe one or two others are better than or have had a better year than England so its not that surprising. England had a shit WC and a dodgy one or two games since. Those rankings I dont think are based on just the last year, I think it still may include some of Englands WC quali results. Not sure though

I saw Slovakia beat Italy at the World Cup. The Italians were barely in the game for 80 minutes. Italy are a significantly worse side than England. As for France, this is the same France side that lose 0-1 at home to Belarus just 3 months ago. England, on the other hand, beat Bulgaria 4-0 at home, and Spain-beating Switzerland 3-1 away. England aren't that shit. Everyone needs to get off their high horse about this.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 December 2010 Posted 16 December 2010 Im assuming because they won the African Cup of Nations, but they are still not a spec on France or Italy etc... who are below them. Haha. Why? Egypt are actually a very capable side, certainly equal to the Italian or French teams of recent times, who've been nothing better than woeful, staggering to get out of the groups of major competitions, if they manage to get out at all. England were ruthless in the qualification for the World Cup, and have started their Euro 2012 qualification reasonably well. Look at the teams below and I certainly don't think any are better than them by any means. England aren't great but the extreme judgement of our media manages to control what England fans think about their national side. We're either world beaters, or abysmal. It seems uncool to think that England aren't actually complete gash, nowadays.

I agree. France only played well against England in that friendly. Apart from that, they've been crap for the last 4 years. As for Italy, they are no longer the force they were. Serie A is crap as well. The rankings are a load of tosh to be honest.
