Finnegan Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 I love the way Thracian talks about managers. Everyone is free to criticise and we all do, but Tone honestly makes it sound like he really thinks he could do better. Love it.
Daggers Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 I love the way Thracian talks about managers. Everyone is free to criticise and we all do, but Tone honestly makes it sound like he really thinks he could do better. Love it. He could. Under his guidance the U18s destroyed the Over18s - and he wasn't even there. That's how good he is.
Finnegan Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 Pft! He managed their worst ever performance! Was blatantly a draw, TPH scoring a not-offside wondergoal!
Thracian Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 Shame you were never happy with that under Pearson. I gave Pearson plenty of credit for what he achieved. But that didn't blind me to his overwhelmingly functional approach to our football. For me football is not just about winning points but also doing so with a bit of style so that people get excited at the prospect of going to watch games. Times under Pearson we so lacked imagination and commitment to attack that we hardly managed a shot at goal yet potential "changes" offered more of the same while Gradel remained almost permanently sidelined. At first I could understand it but Pearson never seemed prepared to change up from a low gear. Yes, I know lots of fans couldn't give a toss about entertainment so long as we ground out the results to reach the Premiership. But he didn't reach the Premiership. And he didn't bring anyone exciting in or through either. Result? We did well but not well enough. Whether we're better off now we're like a railway junction for players passing in and out remains to be seen. Sven seems potentially more exciting - as you'd expect anyway with so much more money to spend - but he's by no means faultless and it all seems so hurried and potentially fragile. Some would have preferred we'd developed Pearson's team rather than pulling it apart. Others think money and names from big clubs will buy our way upwards. Both ideas seemed and seem flawed. While I'd much sympathy with the theory of building on Pearson's team, I don't see there was much to build on. And money can be easily wasted as spent wisely - as we've demonstrated as clearly as anyone over the last seven or eight seasons.
Haydos Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 All you've done there though is sat on the fence. I can't work out what you'd prefer apart from offering Leeds £5m for Gradel...

I think you need to go back and try reading his post again because it was perfectly clear and didn't mention Gradel once.

Ashby Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 I listerned to the phone in last night and Fazacherley quite clearly said that Sven had got in Premiership quality defenders because we were leaking too many goals. He also repeated what Sven said last week about defenders knowing when to play and when to put the ball in the river. Sorry if its just me but these so called premiership defenders are playing week in week out and the defence away from home especially is still leaking goals. Last season our defence was one of the best in the league. Apart from Wayne Brown these defenders are still with the club. Now if these are quality defenders which Sven has got on loan and they are not doing the job could it be down to the coaching. Are they being told what to do and what not to do. They may be good individual players but can they form a good unit. Do the coaching staff actually talk to the players and tell them what they want. Have they told the players when to play and when to put in the river. Last week we had Davies playing the ball inside when it should have gone. This week it was Abe's turn to get caught when trying to play his way out from inside his own penalty area. I do believe that because Sven has got someone on loan he will play them no matter what.
somebum Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 hahaha. What a thread. You fickle clowns will all be calling for his head when he fails to deliver.
Far Post Gerry Posted 22 December 2010 Posted 22 December 2010 Sounds like you actually want that to happen...
Jakemoore Posted 22 December 2010 Posted 22 December 2010 I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say, there's only four better managers in the world right now in my opinion; Sir Alex, Jose Mourino, Harry Redknapp and Martin O'niel. If anyone questions Sven's ability then they shouldn't really call themselves football fans, because they clearly know nothing. I can't wait for January, the players joining our club (drawling everywhere) it's gonna be incredible, this man must know so many people, he could buy anyone, within reason of course. Long live king SVEN <3

Finnegan Posted 22 December 2010 Posted 22 December 2010 hahaha. What a thread. You fickle clowns will all be calling for his head when he fails to deliver. These are my favourite posters. The ones that dive in brand everyone stupid and fickle without stopping to read that these threads are, by and large, a large majority telling a tiny minority to shut up.

Winchester Posted 22 December 2010 Posted 22 December 2010 The thing is, yeah sven did this, sven won that blah blah blah blah...but if the owners really cared about the club then why didn't we sign mourinho? Looking at sven's record too, it's unacceptable, I see us as a top 4 or 5 in the Premier league or even better. When everyone knows every single transfer in sven's history has been a failure. It's time we sack sven so mourinho knows the job is available, Fryatt can be caretaker manager til the end of the season.

The only thing succesful was the tv-special where he and Sven had a few chats.
