I missed it live as was in the toilet but maybe looking at this his touch was running the ball out for a goal kick if he was not bought down so this maybe saved the keeper being sent off?

Yeah, thought that at the time. His touch was heavy & probably wouldn't have got there.

Touch was heavy but Dee Vee is pacy and if he keeps the ball in he's rolling it into an empty net. Red card for the 'keeper all day and no doubt if it was against Leeds it would've been. Dreadful decision live, and seeing it back I still can't understand it. Poor form.

For me this is not a red card. Darius has knocked the ball too far and even if he had kept it in he still had a bit of work to do to score. He would have been at a ridiculously tight angle and in my opinion their defender (number 29 I think) would've got back to the goal line.

He's quite clearly the last man on the video.

If the ref gives a penalty it has to be a red card surely?

Why does it matter if he's the last man or not? The law is that it's a straight red for "denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity" not for being the "last man" (although they can often overlap). In this case I guess the referee's argument would be that Vassell was going to struggle to reach the ball afterwards, and even if he did it was an acute angle with a defender running back to cover, and so it wasn't an "obvious goalscoring opportunity". Hence the ref can give the penalty and not a red card.

If he'd been sent off King probably wouldn't have had the chance to score as they would have closed up shop with only 10 men and still 2-1 up and 20 minutes to go.

Yeah. I was actually hoping that he wouldn't be sent off. 10 men in the lead are hard to play against as you say. If you're already ahead, different story.

I thought the same.

You are correct theoretically and I stand corrected on this point,

However, in this circumstance, if he had not rashly run out he would have been one on one 12 foot from goal!, not needed the touch and had a 'obvious goal scoring opportunity'. The act of running out and bring Vassel down as the last man clearly denied him that obvious goal scoring opportunity surely? :dunno: So IMO a red card in this instance.

I do however conceed that in certain area of the box a keeper could bring a player down as the last man and not deny a clear goal scoring opportunity, and for this I stand corrected!

On re-reading, I can understand what you are saying about why the ref made the decision.

He decided, a heavy touch, leading to a tight angle, led to a less than clear goal scoring opportunity and only a yellow card.

The point for debate I suppose is that, with the rash decision to come out that far removed, Vassel gets a first time shot away and a 1-on-1 clear goal scoring opportunity is denied, red card.

The ref went for the first (i as an unbiased Leicester fan :giggle: opted for the second.

However I did enjoy Schimichael staying on the pitch, try to put PG off his penalty in front of the Home kop! (another horrendous decision in my opinion,) galvanise the fans and players alike and then get beat by a King thunderbolt! Sweet justice.

At the end of the day, if we all agreed this place would be a lot more boring :D
