dave the caveman Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 With 'the new owners' (an immortal title) having shown a genuine willingness to pave the streets around the king power soccer zone in, if not gold, then at least a passable attempt at decent quality Thai silver, and with Sven James Erikson directing a revolution so effective that we, as fans, have already become very much complacent, is there any doubt at all that we will go through next season banging in eights or nines on a regular basis and only losing when we are forced to play in a hurricane? I really can't see it being anything other than auto promotion which will be, in a word, FUN!
Leicester_Loyal Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 The teams that drop down may be brilliant though.
Kitchandro Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 And players will leave. You think Wellens, Naughton, Yakubu and even King are going to want to stay? Say what you like about money but it doesn't guarantee a great team. Wellens and King are our most important players and if we lost them they would be difficult to replace.

Wellens and King are contracted luckily for us. I doubt Sven would want to sell them. Yakubu won't stay. Naughton might do? Lets just hope we can get play offs, but even then we have to win them. One game at a time though.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 The only 'bright side' of not getting promoted is still being able to visit teams with genuine fans that support their local teams. Actually, another good thing is IMO if you get into the prem, reach midtable then that is it, the next decade is boring whilst you settle for midtable mediocrity whilst trying to pull together a team capable of reaching a place higher than the previous season. No-one will compete with Man U, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and City for years now.

That should be the aim if and when we establish ourselves in the Prem.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Not necessarily true. People were saying nobody will break into the "Big Four" of Man U Chelsea Arsenal and Liverpool not long ago and now 2 of those are unlikely to qualify for the Champions league.
Kitchandro Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 massive con of not going up - there's a woman commentating on the featured game on the Football league Show How cringeworthy

People were saying nobody will break into the "Big Four" of Man U Chelsea Arsenal and Liverpool not long ago and now 2 of those are unlikely to qualify for the Champions league. Tottenham are a much bigger club than us and Man City have far more money than us. The likelihood is that we won't be playing Champions League football for at least 25 years. And even then, we'd have to actually win the Champions League to have a trophy to show for it. The FA Cup should be a priority as we've never won it and it's much more possible than getting in the Champions League
Guest BlueBrett Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Yeah I agree with you that the FA cup should be a priority for teams like us. I really can't even imagine how good a winning day out at the Cup final would be. I just pray it happens at some point in our life time so we can all find out I wasn't suggesting that we could be one of the teams to break up the big 4!

Kitchandro Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 "a woman"?!!!! Scandalous. You should stick to reading out emails, that one's annoying enough! Sorry I should have said 'person with an irritating feminine voice'.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 You should stick to reading out emails, that one's annoying enough! You would though! Even if you were lapping up Stevie Claridge's sloppy seconds.

VinceNoir Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 We can easily reach the play-offs this season and have a crack at promotion.
Cropwellfox Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 The bright side of not getting promoted is that there'll be more saturdays when we're in a good mood than if we were in the prem due to winning more matches in the championship. The thing about the Prem is that with 1 or 2 exceptions each year (i.e. Blackpool and Bolton this season) you can pretty much predict who will come where to within 2 or 3 places. The thing about the Championship is that it is a rediculous league to predict. Looking at this season, Watford? Middlesborough? Leeds & Naarwich ? Therein also lies the problem, chucking buckets of cash at it isn't automatically going to get you out of the league ('boro), building a squad over many years isn't either (Cardiff).... Teams will always come from nowehere to be promoted like Blackpool last year and many others before that. It's a great yet also horrible league to be a follower of.
dpjfox Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 the team isnt ready for the prem yet, but sven is slowly buillding a decent team when (not if) we go up we want a good shout of staying there, best achieved with a team full of prem players (which we aint got yet)..... the bright side is were improving, trust me its only a matter of time , be patient, we are leicester (ffs we could be knobenders, delighted with a scabby undeserved last min equiliser)
marbelladave Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 The thing to remember that getting promotion this season is a stated aim of the owners and supported by the management. I think a lot of planning has been done, a lot of promises made on the premiss that we will get promotion and I feel the fallout from not achieving this aim could be considerable. The prospect of trying to get promotion next season could be hampered by losing a couple of our more influencial players and it could all get a bit desperate, we have seen plenty of examples of 'big' clubs getting mired in the lower leagues, somehow it seems that the more time a team spends in a division, the harder it is to get out of it. All in all I feel that the attempt to get up this season is the right choice and although difficult it is possible, even from here. The division is tight this season with competetive teams all taking points off each other, so I feel that around 70 points could well gain a playoff place. Picking up 34 points from 19 games is certainly possible but we really have to sort out our away form and we need to do it now. Continue to play as we are and we will not get close and I think we will really regret it as next season will be really dificult.
Fox1651 Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 I hope they prove me wrong but we wont get promoted this year, we cant even close a game out!!!
Leicester_Mad Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Are people actually saying they have enjoyed the past 7 or so seasons that we have been out of the Prem, more than they did the O'Neill premiership years?! Yeah it was all about midtable, with a cup run but i'd rather that in the Premiership than midtable in the Championship The Cup dream is just that, a Championship side will not win the FA Cup anytime soon, even if we get past City on Tuesday (which is highly unlikely, giving our away form), we will probs then go and lose the next round at Notts County...this is Leicester after all. I honestly think winning on Tuesday could be more of a hindrance than a good thing.

I can think of 2, maybe 3 at a push..
Haydos Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Are people actually saying they have enjoyed the past 7 or so seasons that we have been out of the Prem, more than they did the O'Neill premiership years?! I saw Palace, Boro, Tottenham and Tranmere I have never enjoyed football more than the second leg against Cardiff last year. Maybe now i'm a little bit older now and appreciate the game more but nights like that is what it's all about.
