Kitchandro Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 I saw Palace, Boro, Tottenham and Tranmere I have never enjoyed football more than the second leg against Cardiff last year. Maybe now i'm a little bit older now and appreciate the game more but nights like that is what it's all about. I know what you mean but I'd hope if we did go up and then got another Cup run, the FA Cup might be a bit more special than the League Cup, especially for us as we've never won it. The play-offs are great but after a while you get fed up of losing them, and once you've won it you hope you never have to play in them again because you don't want to get relegated!

I'm honestly not sure which i'd take between the FA Cup and promotion. The thing that majorly bugs me about the prem is the lack of real passion shown by the fans of it's long term occupants. Obviously there's plenty out there that love their club and feel the same as I do but I think i'd genuinely hate for Leicester to become routine. I mean, West Brom fans must hate and love their club more than any of us and I think others are spot on when they say that the failures make the successes so much better. Most Man United 'fans' I know just don't have a clue what being a football fan is actually about. I feel for them.

Most Man United 'fans' I know just don't have a clue what being a football fan is actually about. I feel for them. Yeh exactly. I think the important thing is to always have something to shoot for. That's why I say if we do go up, The FA Cup should be our first priority. Even if we went down and won the FA Cup, I'd be happy. Being a Wigan would be so boring. TBF, the part-timers turn up for the big games in the Championship too. It's just up to the real fans to keep the same attitude for their club as always. I like the Championship, but in reality we all want to be in the Premiership, so we can be proud that we're in the top Division and so we can have a crack at the big boys. Plus, the glory of winning promotion in itself would be amazing. Pitch invasions and all!
cc_star Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 The positive of staying in this division is we'd be aiming for top 2, rather than have an aim of finishing just above bottom 3. Although West Ham & maybe Villa would have a lot to say about that The thing that would greatly annoy me about not going up is we'd have bought players on & progressed them for other clubs at the expense of our own players. Sven's preferred Vitor to Hobbs, and Waggy hasn't even seen the whip never-mind had a fair crack at it, we know those players have ability, but to progress them to be as good as they can be they need game-time. I'm not talking about playing Waggy starting ahead of the Yak, but I believe he needs to be bought on earlier & earlier in games from the last min to the 80th to the 70th & then finally the standard subbing time of the 60thmin. If we don't maintain our current run, (7pts from 9) it would do us good to take a heavy dose of reality and start growing & building the team for next season. Although if we do maintain our 2011 form, we should piss the top 6
ScouseFox Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Might get a trip to Anfield if we don't go up
Haydos Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Of course, I'd still love promotion and to have a shot at what Blackpool have done this season. Turning heads like we did against Man City is another thing that smaller teams take great pleasure in The part-timers tag bugs me (I'm one of them I suppose). I don't just come for 'big games', I go when I can (back home from uni, away games nearby etc) and I try and make up for it by listening/watching when I can so I do feel the 'part-timers' are sometimes unfairly labelled so. Think there was another discussion about this recently actually so won't go into this too much. I can't wait for the next moment of ecstasy, going 1-0 up again at CoMS would do the job for the meantime but it's the playoffs i'm hoping for again

If we are in the Prem there is no doubt there will be more people turning up for that reason alone.

Haha, I didn't mean to suggest that you were suggesting that I was suggesting that you suggested I wasn't a real fan There's not much you can do about it though, it happens at all clubs. I won't be coming any more than I do now if we go up

FuriousFox46 Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Well according to Oddschecker we're 5/1 with Unibet to win the Championship. Bizarre. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/championship/winner
Corky Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 I hope they prove me wrong but we wont get promoted this year, we cant even close a game out!!! Yes we can. That was the first time this season we've conceded a crucial goal in the last minute of a match. I don't think we'll go up this year and it all depends on how we use the close season to build a squad for next year.
shailen Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Wait is this thread suggesting there is a bright side to stayin in the championship. Name one except for challenging for promotion
Kitchandro Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 id rather get promoted than win fa cup Why though? I really do not understand this mentality. You'd rather finish midtable in the top Division (which we've done before plenty of times) than win the best Domestic Cup in the World (which we've never done)? You pick midtable over trophies?! If football isn't about winning trophies what are we aiming for?

If football isn't about winning trophies what are we aiming for? I would rather have promotion and playing against the likes of arsenal, utd chelsea and spurs week in week out. I know why u may rather want to win the fa cup because it is a cup competition, but for me its about establishing yourself in the league and then aim to win cups.
Kitchandro Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 I would rather have promotion and playing against the likes of arsenal, utd chelsea and spurs week in week out. You are not playing Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea and Spurs week in, week out. You're also playing the likes of Wolves, Wigan, Bolton, Birmingham, Stoke, Blackburn and Blackpool week in, week out, and they are all Championship sized clubs. We can beat bigger clubs in the Championship. And even then it's only fun if we beat the big teams, what's fun about losing to them? So you get to see some great players in the flesh? Well I'm not interested in that at all, I just want to see Leicester win. but for me its about establishing yourself in the league and then aim to win cups. So you admit the eventual aim is to win cups? Establishing yourself in the league is just a stepping stone. Fair enough. But if you had the choice of winning the Cup this season or going up, which would you pick? We could win the Cup this year and have a great chance of going up next year anyway. But winning the FA Cup is a much bigger achievement than getting promoted.
shailen Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 You are not playing Arsenal, Utd, Chelsea and Spurs week in, week out. You're also playing the likes of Wolves, Wigan, Bolton, Birmingham, Stoke, Blackburn and Blackpool The same could be said about the championship. There are teams like barnsley, s****horpe and doncaster who are not good enough for the division. The thing about winning the cup being a greater achievement then the league is something i disagree with. The key thing about winning the league is consistency over 46 games whereas the cup can be pot luck. I am not saying i dont want us to win tje fa cup, thats a no brainer, but if it comes at the expense of not being promoted i rather see us promoted

Winning a trophy is an actual achievement. Even if we go up this year, we will most likely have finished 6th. So we're the 6th best team. What an achievement And I don't claim that in the Championship we are playing the likes of Arsenal every week. I was just saying that you were, and that is in fact not true. I'd love to be in the Premiership but there's a chance we could finish bottom and do you really think that would be enjoyable? Another reason to win the FA Cup is it might shut up Forest fans.
shailen Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Fair enough , i see your point. But from my perspective the fa cup is only good for the short term, and getting into the prem may bring long term stability and domestic success. There is a chance we can finish bottom, but thats true for this league too. No one is too good to go down. And just have a looj at blackpool. Imagine if that was us doing the double over liverpool, with an average championship squad. The point is I would rather see us in the prem next season even if that means we get relegated than have a good cup run
The Doctor Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Wait is this thread suggesting there is a bright side to stayin in the championship. Name one except for challenging for promotion if we go up we'll be midtable at best for the next 5-10 years at least, ticket prices will shoot up and - ask yourself, would you pay extortionate prices for mediocrity? If so then you are insane.

Being there long term would be good too but I just think it would get boring eventually if we were like Wigan who never beat a big side and never have a decent cup run. In fact lets just win the FA Cup and get promoted this season

Yeah but thats a small price to pay for the level of football that will be on display, i guess that mediocrity is inevitable but maybe expectations will be raised when we beat the likes of chelsea once in a while.
thybluefox Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 Conclusion to this thread? Some of you will never be happy.
