French Football Ethnic Quota

Recommended Posts

France has been plunged into a fresh race crisis after claims that football officials tried to limit black and Arab players on youth training schemes to make the French team more white.
"For the top brass in French football, the issue is settled: there are too many blacks, too many Arabs, and not enough white players in French football," the website said.

I don't see anything wrong with it. *kanyeshrug* - More white players would be good for the French national team and its image. The French national team represents the French public.

Players should be picked on merit not by race. Everyone should be allowed the same opportunity. I understand they don't want to train players with dual nationalities only for them to go off and play for another country but some of whats been allegedly said is scandalous.

Disagree hugely, Kareem,. and honestly a little bit surprised at you. I know you take a common-sense attitude to things, generally avoid being offended easily and don't buy into the international wave of political correctness and I respect that.

But this is kinda wrong however you look at it, how is having an ethnic quota ever a reasonable idea?

If you feel your side is disproportionate to the representation of the country there are other things you can do, it should be about promoting the game to young white kids if you think it's really important - not telling young BME kids they can't join your academy because their skin is a colour that might offend a few bigots.

I mean LCC, for example, currently feels that ethnic minorities and women are under-represented in it's labour work force; but it's not going out and telling white blokes they can't join - it's just promoting to those groups it feels are applying less to be tradesmen. Not the best comparison but the first that sprung to mind.

confused at this part of your statement.....

these are not people who have been brought over just to play for the french national team these are KIDS, as the article says of a young age. Its natural to assume these are kids who are growing up in France themselves and therefore can be considered part of the french public?

I think I see where you're coming from, in that they want as many French people in the France team as possible.

Would people be happy if the England team was sourced from former English colonies, and there were no English born players in the squad? Like when people didn't want Almunia to play for England, because he's obviously Spanish even though he would be eligible. (This did happen right?)

Hopefully this was some sort of bad translation or something, however nieve that may seem, because the idea of quotas based on skin colour is absurd.

Vast majority of France are Caucasians, so when they see 8 or 9 of the starting eleven being Blacks/Arabs that does not fit in with their indigenous cultural identity, which they are concerned about. Theoretically what they're doing is wrong but I cant see it being effective. No sane rational football coach/scout will reject a young talented kid simply for being Black or Arab [in the hope that its a young Zidane or a Henry] - So I dont think this ethnic quota will ever work, hence my indifference about it. So I take back saying that I see nothing wrong with it. It is wrong, but it isn't something that can be put into practise.

You know shit is serious when even the goalkeeping spot are going to a non-white. :D

How is that much different from the English team? Interestingly, only two players of the current squad (Mandanda and Evra) were not born in French territory. What surprises me is that next to the US, France must be considered one of the most cosmopolitan place on Earth. I woud've thought they embraced that fact...

Oh and Bernard Lama/(David James)

You Legend!

Bernard Lama!! I was trying to remember his name the other day during a discussion on black keepers, he was immense for PSG.

Michel Platini for instance was the son of Italian immigrant to France, would he have been denied a chance to play for France. Why should anyone else just because they have different coloured skin.

I'm not knocking your view, more the allegations themselves.

The people who represent France on the football pitch should be the eleven best footballers in the country. Racial quotas are ridiculous.
