Austin Posted 1 May 2011 Author Posted 1 May 2011 How could you possibly think that? He's up there with a few of the most naturally gifted players I've ever seen, some would argue the MOST gifted. On his day he was mind-blowing. Alright he never stayed at his peak for more than 4 years but as a youngster and in his prime he was a genius. Maybe not one of the best ever but possibly the most talented. I saw Ronaldinho is his prime against Shaktar Donetsk at the nou camp and he was mind blowing, completely agree with him being one of the most talented players ever. I seem to remember him tearing Real madrid apart at the Bernabeu and some of the Madrid fans were applauding him and waving white flags .. He was a genius.

Maybe not one of the best ever but possibly the most talented. I remember seeing his debut for PSG and he was terrible. A 1 man show boat and getting it all wrong at that. Style without the substance. That made up my mind for the next few years. Was only around 2003/4 that my opinion changed. By 2006/7 he was fat and lazy.
StanSP Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Seeing that reminds me of a few more players, too: Petit and Vieira I used to love watching at Arsenal...
Austin Posted 1 May 2011 Author Posted 1 May 2011 Genuinely a tiny bit gutted Ronaldinho went so off the rails. Nothing against Messi, I think he's fantastic and capable of utter brilliance, but I always felt more excitement and more anticipation watching Ronaldinho at his best. You just always expected Ronaldinho to do something amazing with a trick here and there .. also, when he gave opponents the eyes!
Finnegan Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 I remember watching Ronaldinho and Davids briefly playing together at Barca in about 04. It was fantastic. Ronaldinho would do a little trick and beat someone and five minutes later, not to be outdone, Davids would pull of some little bit of flair of his own. It genuinely watched like they were having their own little competition, regardless of the other guys on the pitch. Class.
Austin Posted 1 May 2011 Author Posted 1 May 2011 Okocha Okocha was class! Remember the old "flip flap" from Ronaldinho aswell!
StanSP Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Is that how it was known ? Was quality seeing him do that and just breeze past players (Ronaldinho). As for Okocha, some of his skills were random but lovely to watch.
Austin Posted 1 May 2011 Author Posted 1 May 2011 Oh. And one of my all time favs; Did he briefly play for Bolton if I remember right? Can remember he use to always be linked with Arsenal every transfer window!

At the time I lived in Houghton regis and every one round there seemed to refer to it as a "flip flap" Probably is a "proper" name for it somewhere though.
StanSP Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 RE: Japanese players - Nakata was one of the best, but I always felt Junichi Inamoto could have gone on to better things!
Bugg Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Nakata I used the sign him on PES4. The Japanese and Korean player were always stupidly cheap. He was my hero
Austin Posted 1 May 2011 Author Posted 1 May 2011 Use to like Figo when I was a kid, if only for the fact I scored with him from just over the half way line on Fifa 99 .. as I pressed shoot I screamed "FIGO" !! and it flew in top bag .. Amazing goal haha! If only you could upload replays back then

Austin Posted 1 May 2011 Author Posted 1 May 2011 I had that kit . Used to like him but then he moved to Madrid We all know what happens to players that make the switch from FCB to Real ..

Haydos Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Yeah Ronaldinho was genuinely my favourite player to watch. Messi has definitely surpassed him (and there's not much doubt in my mind that in 10 years time he'll be considered as THE best ever) but there was just the unpredictability coupled with the raw talent that Ronaldinho possessed that just made watching him jaw-dropping. A couple of my favourite clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A_IIITVM64 And one from last month, unbelievable. Like many have said, such a shame he couldn't stick around for longer, should have been the greatest ever.
One Arm Babba Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 My top 3 non city of course: Cantona Beckham big Dunc
StanSP Posted 1 May 2011 Posted 1 May 2011 Few more domestic players - Everton really got a bargain for Cahill considering how good he is now. And Arteta I think is quite unlucky to have a fair few quality Spanish midfielders in front of him meaning he's not been able to make national football. One of those being Alonso, who I also quite like because he can hit a ball to perfection!
