MikeyT Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 I reckon what everyone likes about this is the opposition player didn't roll around on the floor even though he had very good reason too! It makes me a bit embarrassed when seeing footballers doing so from a slap or shove to the face. + 1 if you'd like to see Earnshaw on the end of them punches Rather see Chopra or Balotelli on the end of them to be honest.
The Doctor Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 It's a thugs sport. Might make you a hard man to take those punches and accepting the apology but giving them out is just not on. I'm fed up of Rugby players getting positive press for such disgraceful behaviour, it happens time and time again and people just go 'I wish footballers were hard and had proper fights like that instead of being pussies and rolling around'. We all hate pussies diving around in football but that doesn't mean smashing someone in the face just because he pushed you in the back of the head a bit makes you a big man, apology or not. There's no place for losing your temper like that. Problem is Rugby fans tend to think that it's ok and part of the sport. Much like diving is accepted now because a lot of people think it's OK. I'm not being funny but he's lucky the last one hit him on the side of his forehead, a bit further back and it could have been very serious. It really isn't. And i haven't heard any positive press for this sort of behaviour or people wanting footballers to have proper fights. Manu didn't just twat him one for pushing in the back of the head, the entire northampton team were less than sporting with their "late" tackling - big hits when the tigers player wasn't in possession. Frustration just got the better of him, after all he's just a kid really. I'm not condoning it, just that northampton & ashton did bring it on themselves to a certain extent.

Not really, the late big hits we're borderline, sometimes you get away with it sometimes you dont and to be expected in a big game like that. No excuse for him doing what he did

No excuse for him doing what he did most were borderline but there were a few that weren't. And i agree, there is no excuse for him doing what he did, but ashton and northampton aren't exactly completely innocent.
Houdini Logic Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Don't even know how people can watch it - even the thought of watching people fight makes me ill

I'm not being funny but he's lucky the last one hit him on the side of his forehead, a bit further back and it could have been very serious. I stopped after that first sentence. What a load of bollocks. I've played rugby and believe me football is the much more thuggish sport. Playing football you get week in week out, people purposely going to hurt you, swearing, abusing, calling the ref and lino all sorts and kicking off with the other teams. In rugby, the odd punch-up occurs but it's a heat of the moment thing. As has been said, they made up straight after the match. If it was a footballer, a grudge would be held forever. Did you notice one other thing, Ashton didn't deserve to get sin binned but did he moan or complain? No, he just jogged off and got on with it.
Father Ted Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Me and 3 friends had a bit of a fight with andy & alessana outside o4 in 2007 ended with me having a broken nose and my friend out for the count. Ain't you an idiot then!
Soar Fox Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Ain't you an idiot then! Why because I didn't agree with one of them groping my girlfriend.
Darkon84 Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Ashton shouldnt have pushed him in the back of the head.....then he appears to wait for a reaction...which he got quicker than expected. Ashton wanted a face off, and he got it...his own! The whole Northampton tactics were based around roughness and provoking players. How many times was Toby Flood taken late or off the ball, with no repercussions. Manu...........Like Tyson in his prime!

Nick Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Awaiting ban decision: 6-11 weeks apparantly If he punched anybody like that off the pitch he'd likely be looking at custody once they found the severed head..........
leicesterisme Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Why because I didn't agree with one of them groping my girlfriend. Still, surely you'd be wise enough to know how big they are!!
Mee Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Five week ban. Leicester centre Manu Tuilagi has been banned for five weeks for punching Northampton's Chris Ashton on Saturday.Tuilagi responded to a push in the back from Ashton with a three-punch combination that left the England winger needing stitches to a cut above his left eye. Both Ashton and Tuilagi were yellow-carded by match referee Wayne Barnes after the incident in the Aviva Premiership play-off semi-final at Welford Road, a game the Tigers went on to win 11-3. Tuilagi faced an RFU disciplinary hearing in London on Wednesday, the day of his 20th birthday, and will now miss the Premiership final at Twickenham against Saracens on May 28. Tuilagi admitted the charge. The RFU revealed that Tuilagi's case had been dealt with as a top level entry point, but an initial 10-week ban was halved due to provocation. Tuilagi aimed three punches at Ashton and was subsequently reported by independent citing officer Alan Mansell. The ban starts on Thursday and expires on June 23, meaning Tuilagi will also miss England Saxons' entire Churchill Cup campaign next month, which would have provided him with an opportunity to impress prior to England's World Cup warm-up Tests in August.

What do you expect Northampton to do, just sit back and let Leicester play? Of course there going to rough them up a bit!
Itsthejoeker Posted 19 May 2011 Posted 19 May 2011 I think it was quite clear Ashton got what he wanted, he probably didn't expect it to be that ferocious, but he clearly wanted Manu to atleast push him over
