Hoos urges fringe players to fight for City future

Chief executive Lee Hoos has urged Leicester City's fringe players to fight for their place in Sven-Goran Eriksson's side.

Several players who have struggled to cement a place in Eriksson's side have been linked with moves away from the Walkers Stadium in the summer.

They include strikers Steve Howard and Martyn Waghorn, and defenders Bruno Berner and Robbie Neilson.

Howard has been linked with a move to Hull City, while there were unconfirmed reports yesterday that Waghorn was the subject of a £1.25 million bid from Derby County.

There are suggestions that the young striker wants to leave, although Hoos said there had not been any significant enquiries so far.

"We haven't really had any calls about any of our players, no, but I am sure I will be batting a few people away," he said.

"Waggy was unfortunate to get that injury and miss the end of the season but he was playing a part.

"You have to give him credit because a lot of players would have had their heads down because they weren't starting.

"The Bristol City game was a great example. He came on as a sub and scored a blinding goal and it doesn't get more dramatic than that.

"We have a good bunch of lads and with any player the advice is always 'go out and fight for your place. If you get a chance, take it'."

One player still contracted to the club who doesn't appear to have a future with City is forgotten striker Yann Kermorgant.

The Frenchman is set to return from his season-long loan from AC Arles-Avignon, and Hoos said he would discuss the 29-year-old's future with his representatives.

Kermorgant has not returned to the club since his play-off semi-final penalty shoot-out miss at Cardiff a year ago.

"Obviously, his loan expires at the end of the year and we'll see how that pans out," said Hoos

"He has one year left on his contract and I will have to have that conversation with his agent."

Hoos also said they had not received any enquiry from Swindon Town over the availability of first team coach Didi Hamann.

Hamann was linked with the Robins vacancy on Monday.

"I didn't know about that until I read it on Tuesday," said Hoos.

I find this to be something Hoos had to say really.. To big up the players will probably attract more interest.. I would very much doubt seeing Nielsen and berner in the squad at the start of next season

As for waggy and Hobbs I think they will more than likely move on too

Why is Robbie Neilson mentioned! Surely he is being moved on! <_<

Whilst I understand your sentiment and agree. The maths of having to sign 2 RBs doesn't stack up if we have a capable sub already at the club.

I'd much sooner retain a few of these fringe players who I wouldn't particularly like in the starting line-up if it frees up for Sven to chase more of his 1st choice list and not have to settle for what could be his second choice signing because he has to sign a back-up as well.

Personally I'd have liked to have seen Neilson sold & Morrison retained because he can play at back as well so is much better suited to being a back-up player

Blatant +1 whore.

What is wrong with what Hoos has said? Telling Waggy to fight for a place makes him a nob?

Because he knows nothing about football maybe? He's no more right than the tea lady or the groundsman to be telling someone to fight for their place.
