David Guiza Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 After witnessing arguably the best footballing side ever tear apart Manchester United this evening. I was thinking what footballing games/players/teams/goals of the last 20years will be talked about in the same way Pele/Brazil70 ect are talked about. Off the top of my head I would say clearly Barcelona's current side along with Messi, Xaxi and maybe Iniesta. Liverpool v Ac Milan, for obvious reason. Arguably the greatest final ever. Any thoughts?
The Doctor Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 I'd agree liverpool v AC Milan. Players i'd have to say: Zidane and Ronaldo (the proper one, not the spiky haired **** that plays for real madrid at the moment).
Sly Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 I think your greatest team of all time would arguably include Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. They are that good. Not sure at the expense of who though, Zidane, Gullet, Rikard, Figo, Maradona, Deschamps, Seedorf etc. Hard to choose.
The Doctor Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 Liverpool Vs Alves was a cracking game also. 5-4 in UEFA cup 2001? That was an absolute cracker, Alves haven't half fallen away since that though.
shen Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 THAT goal by Stankovic The Man Utd 1999 team with probably the best remembered attacking duo in recent history The sensational 2004 triumph of Greece Personally I will always remember: Euro '92 The 1999 Dynamo Kiev team with Shevchenko and Rebrov bursting on to the scene The 2001 UEFA Cup final between Liverpool and Alaves ...and many more that I don't remember right now, ironically
Haydos Posted 28 May 2011 Posted 28 May 2011 Old Ronaldo obviously. New Ronaldo if he keeps it up for a fair few years to come. It's hard to compare him with Messi and he does just fall short but he'll still be one of the best ever if he scores 50 goals a season for the next 5 years. I hope Ronaldinho isn't forgotten. And the Messi-Maradonna goal a couple of seasons ago didn't seem to get too much coverage.

Sly Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Markout moments for me, England's 5-1 against Germany. Liverpool Vs Alves Liverpool Vs Milan Euro 96 and the buzz that surrounded it. England against Argentina in 98. England against Brazil 2002. Zidane for some genius ability and that headbutt. I remember the great Ajax team and then Juventus. The beginning of Sky TV. Euro 92 where Denmark, a team that didn't qualify lifted the European Cup. All of Leicester City's visits to Wembey be it play offs or league cups Winning the league cup at Hillsborough in the replay. Pontus Kaamark showing how to stop a player pulling strings (Manchester United take note). For some reason I remember Ian Marshall playing for Ipswich against Leicester and bagging a Hat Trick. The WBA game, where Spider Kalac came on and nearly coat us the game. Steve Corica Steve Coatsworth Steve Walsh Steve Claridge .... Leicester need more Steves! I also remember Ronaldo scoring a great Hat trick for Madrid against Man U, before Beckham pulled 1 or 2 back.

ScouseFox Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Beckham v Greece. Beckham v Argentina. (the penalty, not the red card) Owen v Argentina. Zidane's headbutt, that whole World Cup Final. Just a few that haven't been mentioned, agree with everything else really. edit - Gerrard v Olympiakos Gerrard v West Ham, Cup final. Dudek's save in that '05 CL Final, from Shevchenko with his head in extra time.

MikeyT Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 I know it's not in the same calibre as some posts already in here, but i remember being at this game and the elation i felt when big Steve scored this.
ScouseFox Posted 29 May 2011 Posted 29 May 2011 Arsenal/Spurs 4-4 & Newcastle/Arsenal 4-4 are a few recent games that were full of everything.
