Season review dvd

I'm glad I've stimulated a good discussion!

I agree with pretty much everything that's been said, the VSI years were the best. 96/97 and 97/98 were the peak, though I'd say any from 92-98 were brilliant.

I quite like 99/00 for it's total no nonsense approach to the review. Though Dennis Coath (Anyone who's seen ITV Central news will know him) and his attempts at commentary are amusing.

00/01 is one of the worst. Far too much droning on from Savage and Taylor, plus the dubbed crowd cheering is absolutely horrendous.

02/03 was another brilliant one. Using the PHG as intro music, rather than techno stuff.

I was always disappointed that they never did season reviews in 06/07 and 07/08 (They had planned to do one in 06/07, but it was scrapped, you can find the DVD cover on Amazon). I know it was based on the terrible sales from 05/06, but even though we were relegated, you can't say 07/08 wasn't a season you could describe as dull!

Took me YEARS to locate a 98/99 season review, couldn't find that for buggery, and only last year I bought a 90/91 review.

1999-00 hand next to no commentary on did it? Just that boring bastard speaking over it as you say, which let it down a bit, otherwise ti was really good.

And 2000-01 had about 14 replays of every goal, must have put half an hour on the viewing just for the replays.

2002-03 was good yes, but the only thing missing was the decent commentators, though the ones on there are much better than todays, approaching ten years ago that was now as well.

And I agree and share your disappointment that they never made any between 06 and 08. They put the Leicester goals on the classic matches DVD (That was another very disappointing DVD) and the relegation ones on the 2008-0 one with no commentary. Would have liked to have seen the oppostion goals too, maybe a joint season review of them both would have been good.

The KofM one could certainly be better by the sound of it. I quite liked that goals DVD, though its shouldnt have been done alphabetically. A countdown is a bit hard to do (and they did a countdown in about 2004, DVD) and you always think a certain goal shouldnt be as highly rated as it is. They should have done it in more of a category style, e.g. volley's, lobs/chips, long shots, headers, free kicks, etc. I know they did that in parts but not enough really.

And yeah, a job making DVDs for the club shop would be superb. I suppose thats why I like making goals videos on YouTube, and still have every single Radio Leicester commentary for goals in 2009-10, just because it was a real season to remember.

The problem is that the club want to make a DVD around Xmas every year, and they seem to be fast running out of ideas. Bringing out the 250 great goals (copy of the 120 greatest goals) the 125 anniversary DVD (basically the 120 DVD with 2 mins extra for 2004-2009), and the KOTM DVD, which is just re-hashed games.

I wonder how popular the 'magazine' videos (well DVDs) would be if they did them again, with in depth reviews of the month, including extended highlights. Probably not enough to make money :(

I have the lot from 1990 onwards, put the old VHS ones onto DVD now but the first 10 years 90-2000 are much better than the last 10 years, last years was a good effort though.

Some great memories, one of my favourites being Leicester v Millwall at Filbert St with Steve Agnew wading into their players and staff! he got a red card and it was probably the most violent outburst from a city player for quite some time, it was funny though as he took out van den hauwe I think and a couple of others before our coaching staff and the old bill packed him off down the tunnel! Won 3-0 and Millwall were top 6 at the time.

I was going to mention the replays on 00/01, it's ridiculous. But the dubbed crowd noise is far wose, it's embarrassing. You're right about 99/00, hardly no commentary except for a couple of games with Coath commentating, and the odd BBC/Sky commentary for any game which we were live or featured.

As you may have worked out from this thread and previous posts, I'm a bit of a media whore, so when we didn't get any review in 06/07 I recorded the highlights, goals and news reports from 07/08. I have news clips from Holloway, Megson, Allen sacking, tonnes of footage. The gamble paid off too, because they never did release a DVD and that's the only way to relive that season!

I'd love to produce my own season reviews based on the clips I've gotten from from 07/08 to this season, they'd be spread over about 4-5 discs and last for hours and hours!

The dubbed crowd cheering was horrendous. They made the away goals celebration sound louder than the home.

And I liked the fact that Julian "Go-Jim" and "Yien" Roberts were both mis-pronounced.

Can we try and list all the things that the season review will magically miss off, as if they never happened. And how they'll try and say we were ****ing awful in the first nine games.

So long as they don't do my bugbare, which is not show all the goals. For example we lost 6-1 to Portsmouth, so show all the goals from that game, not just one or two. Stop trying to eliminate history!

You have to love the cheap tack techno music that VSI used. If I'm going to complete my role as forum sad c*nt then I'd say 97/98 was the best for the music.

Agreed, the downside is not showing every goal, both for us and the opposition.

It's a season review so show the season's worth of goals.

Just got mine through the post this morning. Not watched it yet, but after a quick skip through, my initial impression is that it's very 05/06 basic.

For example, the only mention of Sousa's sacking is when the commentator says the interim managers will be happy with the first goal in the Scunthorpe game.

There is a bit of fuss made when the teams come out for the Hull match on Sven's appointment, but it's all very downplayed.

There's lots of lovely dubbed in commentary, but they do use Sky commentary and World Feed commentary on the games which were ext. highlights on the FLS.

EDIT: For those who love the old style techno 90's music on old reviews, there's none of that, just some underwhelming generic crap

To elaborate, watched the DVD last night. Quite impressed.

Positives

- It's a simple season review. I don't know about everyone else, but reviews which have generic interviews with players/manager reviewing the season themselves in the middle of the review are just annoying (See 00/01 as a prime example). This has none. It just goes from month to month, showing every game.

- It shows EVERY goal. From a 6-1 loss to a 5-1 win, the review doesn't eliminate the dire results.

- Has longer segments for the two Man City matches, and has original live TV commentary for all the games when we were on Sky (and ESPN).

Negatives

- No narration. There is dubbed over commentary of every game, even when some matches have no need for comms. Would have been nice to get Gary Newbon or someone else in to narrate the review.

- TOO simple. The review leaves out the Thai takeover, the sacking of Sousa, and the bulk of the Sven appointment. I like a review which leaves nothing out, and I'd have liked more info and fuss on the takeover and sacking (though I realise they might not want to linger too long on the sacking).

- With the player turnover, it would have been nice if the review had mentioned the arrivals and departures. This would have been possible with narration, but obviously they didn't include it.

Overall it's a good, solid season review. I would have preferred a narrator and more made of what went on during the season, and signing info would have been good, but otherwise it's what you want. No goals missed out, for or against.

And the music is an actual proper song, but I'm no music buff, so I have no idea what it is.

ive got the videos:

2000 - 2001 - when we topped the prem.

2002-2003 - the promotion

2003-2204 - the prem season

does anybody know you can get these on dvd??

I have all them, but the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons are avaliable on DVD. Not sure which the first season was on DVD, I have collected every season review and the earliest I have on DVD is the 2002/03 season review titled 'Keep The Faith'.

So, the answer to your question is yes (I'm not sure about 2000-01 because I still have that on VHS) but I don't know where (apart from eBay) they are sold because the club shop obviously stopped selling them ages and ages ago.

You could always get a converter for around £8.00 and transfer VHS to DVD yourself :dunno:

Now watching it. It's a good review but it's a shame there is no narration!

Shows the high and lows of a strange season I suppose

Some points I'd like to make.

Every home atmosphere bar citeh in the cup sounds so dour! (Even though it may not have always seemed that way at the time.)

I was right in my slagging off of cunningham, particularly milwall away. Though he does have a great delivery.

Waghorn isn't as bad as some make out.

Didn't watch the ricardo games, but it would be interesting to see if he was at fault.

We were unlucky early on in the season with decisions going against us, but likewise we were given some shocking decisions in our favour.

The close up of our fans after vassells equaliser at forest is magic!

DVD arrived through the post today.

First of all, glad they have brought back the ability to watch a particular match instead of a particular month. Yeah. But, like above, there is no news regarding Sousa's appointment and sacking, the signings, or Svens arrival and signings.

Watching the games is great though. You can fully analyze the goals and assists (apart from King's goal at Barnsley when the camera seems to miss the great play to set up the goal). I think people undervalue Wellens, some of his passing and ability to spot a pass is indispensible to us. Look on some of our goals where Wellens has assisted, and the passes are fantastic,

Some great goals in there though: Naughton, King, Wellens etc, some great scenes as well, I like to watch our fans celebrate a goal, especially away. Commentators don't get as excited as Stringer would, but overall, a good DVD to add to my collection.

Watching it has got me in the mood for this forthcoming season as well. Can't wait.
